  1. the three star offensive players (Weeks, Braun, Ramirez) Hart contributes as least as much offensively. Especially considering Week's tendency to miss games due to injury. But I'd agree with the overall statement there. This team has a higher risk than last years, but has the same upside, IMO.
  2. I know they generally bring minor leaguers over for double headers and such, but generally they are returned. Can't remember anyone that actually stayed. If CP didn't get an NRI at first, they won't give him one unless some injury occurs. I'm not too worried about it. Still, I would have preferred an OFer with a bit more pop to backup the corners. We already have Morgan, Gomez, and Schafer for CF. His bat compares to a left handed Gomez, which isn't good. Don't know how his defense would be in CF (I'm guessing Gindl might be better). And he doesn't have the bat to carry left or right... so why???
  3. I was sitting in my parents living room in my Mom's chair (closest to the stereo) for that call... Good memories!
  4. I'm not sure how much courtesy there is among professional sports, but generally its a faux pas to announce news that would distract from some of the bigger events of the year. I know within the NFL, teams won't announce signings or new coaches this week. Not sure if its an unspoken rule or not between the MLB and NFL. (Anyone have a copy of the unwritten rule book that I can read? I left my last copy in St. Louis). But as others have said, if there was no suspension and Braun was informed, it would come out immediately. Super Bowl or not.
  5. They asked a couple things tryintg to get me to be critical of my boss. Were you interviewing for your boss's job? http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/wink.gif
  6. as we see a transition of Weeks into more of a power guy So your thinking he was one of the "unusually high synthetic-T" mystery men mentioned in the Braun thread? Sorry to burst your bubble, but Weeks is 29. His max HR total was in his age 27 season, when he hit 29 (the only year he has played a full season). Both that year and last year, he hit HRs at the rate of 3.9% (career 3.3%). So at that rate, he needs 897 PAs to hit 35 HRs (he had 754 two years ago). And there isn't anything to indicate that he will suddenly become a major power hitter either, unless he has 'roided up. I don't get the "Rickie must bat 5th" mantra either. Sure, he has some power, but he also has a much rarer gift (especially on this team) and that is the ability to get on base. Between Weeks and Hart, Weeks has better OBP, while Hart has better SLG. So Weeks 2nd and Hart 5th. You could shift Hart to 1st against LHB, I suppose.
  7. Deep down, I think Mat Gamel might have just replaced YB in BF forums. At least the YB of the preseason... I also think he is the biggest question mark on the team. We pretty much know what we will get out of our other starters, but large swings in the predictions for Mat. I predict that it "clicks" for him this year with a solid chance to play everyday and he has a 800 OPS.
  8. could feature only 3 home grown players Why is that a problem anyway? If you are looking from the draft and development perspective, then you need to include K-Rod, Grienke, Marcum, Gomez, and Morgan, since they were all acquired by trading away players in our system. It doesn't really matter if a drafted player makes the team or is traded away to acquire someone to make the team better. They help equally.
  9. My question is, does anyone have any thoughts on what kind of job opportunities I would be looking at after I graduate? Like TLB, I have no experience in chemistry related fields. However, I'll just add: Don't limit yourself. College experience is about 80% learning how to learn. When I left college, I had a somewhat narrow view of what I was "qualified" for, but there was a lot more out there that I could do. going to bed now and will have to decide when i get up on calling her and pushing the flight or not calling at all. Of course, if she is going to remove you anyway, being "pushy" might not hurt anything... Good luck!
  10. Jeremy Reed, part 2? Well played, sir! But given that he doesn't have an invite to camp, probably not. Normally, I don't care who they bring in on minor league deals with an invite to camp, but I really don't want CP seeing our major league outfield. So I'm glad he didn't get the invite. I suppose we have a hole in our AAA outfield that needed a filler, but I'm worried that he gets a chance prior to Gindl or Schafer... curious if he has an opt-out clause. That crossed my mind also. A 50 game opt-out clause to be specific. http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/wink.gif And since no one else did it, here is the link: http://www.jsonline.com/s...l-8m40eat-138376124.html
  11. Kentrail Davis - .325/.429/.519 While the AFL batting stats are very inflated, even if you came down .050 points on each of those numbers (275/379/469) at AA, that would be a huge step forward for Kentrail.
  12. This essentially screws over the small-market teams like Milwaukee. I'm not positive that is true. Basically, it just means that only the best FAs will get compensation. Perhaps a deep pockets team might be able to take a few more chances on a border-line FA (someone that isn't quite worth the $12M), but really its always been like that anyway. That isn't much of a change. I think this is basically going to mean more uncompensated type FA on the market, so teams like the Brewers will have more choices without giving up a pick (which deep pocket teams rarely blink at). I still think an NFL-style compensation should be incorporated so a team's net gain is considered, not the individual signings. Then offering arby or not wouldn't matter.
  13. ...as they actually, voluntarily signed Yuniesky Betancourt. But he is such a gritty battler!
  14. The Houston Energy is awful Wouldn't that bring up thoughts of Enron?
  15. I throw left handed So how fast can you throw? What is your BABIP against LHBs? Would you sign for a minor league contract with an invite to camp? We are still looking for a LOOGY... http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/wink.gif
  16. Molitor leaving was a shock. At the time, the Brewers had previously kept everyone they wanted to keep. This was totally expected. I was just thinking that also. Molitor leaving hurt far worse.
  17. I'd take last year's offense, because they had options to use Green at third and Hairston at short (they just didn't use them, for whatever reason). Ok, I though you were picking Green for this year at 3B, since he wasn't really up much last year. But we also don't know what that offense would have really done. Green might flop in the MLB (and I am a big supporter of his). And I think the point is to still compare this year's probable offense/defense to last year's 96-win offense/defense. Not what could have been last year.
  18. Do we open on the road (like usual)? If so, it probably doesn't matter. Getting the home opener is about as prestigious as getting the season opener.
  19. The Milwaukee Hogs. They would play in Harley Stadium (cause, we all know that Harley screwed Davidson out of his half). Uniforms would be made of leather. All of the parking spots in "Preferred" parking would have 1/2 width of now. We could parallel the Oakland Raiders as the bad-boys of the MLB.
  20. He's not even the 2nd best center in the division at this point. Maybe I should have said "2nd best talent". The problem is that he can never put a long enough stretch together to really make a claim to be one of the best centers. But these last two years, he has really stepped it up defensively. He is never going to be a 18-20 pt guy, which is maybe all you are looking at. But the Buck's defense is much improved because of him in the middle. There are a few guys that have better stats than Bogut this year for the combination of points/rebounds/blocks, but Dwight Howard is the only one that is obviously better. And only Marc Gasol has been there with Bogut over the last couple years.
  21. Unfortunately, Bogut never really got any better or developed into the stud a lot of people thought he could be. Actually, I disagree. He is probably the 2nd best center in the league... (wait for it)... when healthy. But given the team and his constant health issues, we probably better off going into rebuilding mode.
  22. Losing Prince obviously hurts, but I think the step up from last season's McGehee to this season's Aramis Ramirez makes up for a nice portion of it. Alex Gonzalez playing shortstop also adds a few wins to our team... FYI, this discussion is on about 3 threads right now, which is why I linked the above thread. Please don't turn this into a fourth... Aoki is going to be a key piece to the puzzle if Braun is suspended. He won't approach Braun's numbers of course, but if he plays well, he could limit the suspension impact to 2 games instead of 3-4. Remember that those WAR numbers are based on replacement players. If Aoki exceeds that level (not a sure thing), that would greatly reduce the impact.
  23. Would the correct pronunciation be "Rast-roh?" It was his name, so I suppose so. Seems that the family always got it wrong... I'd play off the future rivalry with the Rangers. Something like the Houston Bandits or Houston Outlaws. Houston Norrises - Mascot is a no-brainer with a bearded guy in a kick-boxing outfit and 10-gallon cowboy hat!
  24. I would look here: http://brewersfandemonium...ez-Gamel-Fielder-McGehee for a discussion on the impact of the loss of Fielder. As for "Braun is only worth 4 W's", remember that 50 games out of a 162 game season, means that he is worth about 13 wins for the full season. So we would lose 4 extra games in the 50 he might miss. (Not saying that is correct, just translating the numbers).
  25. Fielder saw 549 more pitches than Ramirez did last year and walked 107 times to just 43 for Ramirez. Braun will be among the league leaders in intentional walks, even if he plays only 112 games Excellent. Braun will take over for Fielder last year then... If you are going to compare Fielder vs. Ramirez on walks and pitches, then you have to look at McGehee vs. Gamel and Gonzalez vs. Yuni. There isn't a single person that will replace Fielder. Pujols would have been the only way we could have upgraded. No one is comparing Fielder to any one player. I'd take the one with Fielder, only because I would rather have Fielder/Green over Gamel/Ramirez. Except that was never an option. The question was a comparison of our 1B/3B/SS last year to this year. Fielder hasn't been a realistic possibility for 2012 for 3-4 months (and I'm being generous in saying it was that close). The comparison of 2011 McGehee/Yuni/Fielder vs. 2012 Ramirez/Gonzalez/Gamel is pretty close IMO, if you include offense and defense. Gamel is the big question mark. At worst, its probably a loss of a win or two. But if he hits 800 OPS with good defense, I'd say its going to be a virtual tie.
