  1. Not Ginger pop? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  2. Why are we suggesting rookies should only play 130 games? I'm not sure "should" is the right word, but "typically" might be. Not just for rest, but injuries also. I have no idea how to check on who many games the average starter plays, but 130 is around Hart's average. Weeks is below that (injuries obviously). Fielder, Braun and McGehee have been over that consistently. I wouldn't put so much stock into "130". DM probably picked a nice round number (30 games) as an estimate of how many times they would need a backup 1B for Gamel.
  3. Ok, wasn't sure. I had no idea people loved Ginger Ale that much. :D
  4. 2011,2010,2009,2008 Hart: 814, 827, 773, 745 Ludwick: 644, 800, 787, 985 He was clearly better back in 2008, but not since. Plus, he will be 34 compared to Hart's 30. And Ludwick is showing the downward trend...
  5. I wonder if this opens up more of a possibility that Prince could be signed for one year too. I almost wrote this above, but put it in blue, but decided I didn't want to open that door... PF is not going to sign for one year. Before that happens, he will sign a deal with a 3 year "out" clause to allow him to get the "long term" deal, but still get another chance at a huge deal later. Too much crow to eat before PF or Boras signs a 1 year.
  6. my apartment is usually kinda messy, but now that i've taken up art as a hobby... Doesn't becoming an artist allow you go from "messy" to "breaking out of social norms" and become "misunderstood" or "tortured", thus making your art just that much more valuable? Its all just marketing... http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  7. This had better mean I'll have the wind at my back on the way home tonight. You just guaranteed that it won't... http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  8. I think K-Rod for $8m is much better than Madson for $9.5m. What am I missing? K-Rod is only a setup man, so Madson, being a closer, is MUCH more valuable...
  9. We wouldn't trade him unless we were out at the deadline. Just leaves the option open. Unless someone blew us away with an offer I guess. I don't see that happening though. If someone's closer get hurt in ST, I could see him being moved then. Maybe all the closers that have signed for less money than "normal" gave the Brewers some leverage in arby?
  10. http://mlb.mlb.com/stats/...=Sortable+Player+hitting Among all OF last year vs. RHB, Corey was 39th in OPS (including 7 or 8 with small sample sizes). No, I didn't check out each and everyone of their salaries. But two of them, Scott Hairston and Reed Johnson signed for just over $1M, but both had career years. And have career averages of mid to low 700 OPS against RHB. A couple others that are legit 800+ hitters (Willingham and Cuddyar) signed for pretty big money. Even Nyjer Morgan didn't beat Hart against RHB last year (in OPS). I'll grant you that Hart's defense isn't great, but part time, cheap OF also generally have poor offense or a poor bat. Guys that can approach 800 OPS (which is above average) and give average to good defense are generally paid very well. The only chance I see of this happening is with Gindl. But its no guarantee that he will be able to post a 800+ as a rookie (I'd be more confident of that in future years). But I'd really doubt you are going to find anything for cheap that you can be confident (yeah, flukes happen) will be able to give better production than Hart. Morgan could also, if you factor in defense. -edit: On second look, maybe not. Career, he is 764 against RHP. Defense may make up the difference, but that doesn't make him better.
  11. I'd prefer Vernor's myself. Let me re-emphasize: I'll second the Canadian Dry Deck... at least as long as DM and Ash are around. Frankly, I don't care about Ginger Ale all that much... http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Hawing, given the state of many attempts to escape the parking lots at MP, I wish more people would drink that last sugar-laced (save for the diabetics), caffeinated Pepsi/MD/whatever and a little less on the beer side. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Granted, I've found the preferred parking much easier to get in and out of. For the sheer numbers, but also because people seem to be more compliant about taking turns when multiple lines yield into one.
  12. This just seems to scream that we will be signing Aoki, IMO. Otherwise, why would you pick Hart to 1B instead of Ramirez? I suppose Green being LH might have something to do with it. Granted, so is Aoki... Also, I don't get why having a backup plan (or simply a backup for rest days) equates to the Brewers not giving Gamel a chance. Hart himself was broken into the MLB level by playing part time. Its not that unusual. Plus, he only mentioned it for 30 games. Its not like Gamel will only play 80 games in a 50/50 platoon split.... Not many people play every game like Prince did. Hart is a liability in RF vs RHP so I'm hoping that is where this going more than anything else, you can get Hart's production vs RHP for league minimum. Hart's line against RHP last year: 272/335/479/814 and career: 268/319/473/793. If you can sign a 800 OPS free agent RF for league minimum, more power to you. You should be a MLB GM. edit-clarifications
  13. I had a teacher in college that actually made us "memorize" and take quizzes on individual letters in the stylebook - which was so strange. It's a reference book You get some of that in engineering also. I had professors that made us memorize formulas. Others gave a notecard. And others let us use the textbook. The last ones would say, "Once in the work world, things like this are critical to get right. So no one takes the chance that they remembered the formula correctly anyway."
  14. She cried for about an hour and a half of the drive Been there, done that... That is the worst age for traveling. Younger than that, they are content to sleep or sit (since they can't really move much anyway). Get older and you can read books to them, give them toys, watch videos to entertain them. But at that age... ouch. We had a 7 hour trip with 3 kids, one 8-9 months old. Had a couple breaks along the way. About 5 hours in, he started screaming (for 20-30 minutes). So we stopped again at a park and let him get out of the cars seat. Back in 15-20 minutes later and he wanted no part of that car seat anymore... Last 1.5 hours were quite torturous as he didn't stop once. I has such a massive headache... The positive is that my kids can do a 4-8 hour (even 10 hours once) car trip without blinking an eye now...(ok, a few complaints, but not too bad)
  15. Pepsi also has a bottling facility in Watertown (ironic isn't it?). I have no idea if Coke has one in the area, however.
  16. This thread is a Hat Trick. 3 topics at once. I am proud to have contributed! - Did any dollar amount for Kotteras signing ever come out? - Ferrell was horrendously bad in that movie - Not to turn this into a Stones discussion - Parra has very good numbers as a reliever in his career. I count 4 topics... http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  17. Yep, spring fever just bit hard now... Badgers lose Rose Bowl, Packers...ugh, at least Miss America was won by Wisconsin! I can't wait for the next 49ers game. I'll "cheer" for the 49ers, but I doubt I'll even watch much more football...
  18. I second that. I need my Dew. Funny story. We were eating at a restaurant. My son asks for a Mountain Dew. The waitress asks "Is Mellow Yellow ok?". If my looks could kill, the waitress would have dropped dead on the spot. "Uh no. I'll have a root beer". You have no idea how many times I've done that myself... Its worse if they don't ask and just give you Mello-Yellow. That is a tip-killer right there... Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, KFC... all have the same parent company as Pepsi. Taco Bell is great because they have Baja Mountain Dew (makes for a nice change-up). http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  19. I'm assuming that is sarcasm. When Wolf was signed, two years ago, many comparisons to Suppan were made. Less were made last year, but still were made. Its quieter this year... It doesn't make much sense to me to trade Wolf unless you are going to pitch Peralta/Fiers in his spot (to save money). Any team that would trade for Wolf, could simply sign Oswalt instead. Plus, its getting a little late in the season to see big trades like that. Still could happen, but its atypical. If we are out of it by the deadline, you have options for Greinke, Marcum and Wolf as trade-bait.
  20. Who cares about coke or pepsi... its Mountain Dew we need to keep! If it changes, I'll second the Canadian Dry Deck... at least as long as DM and Ash are around. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  21. Personally, I enjoy the snow. I wish it would not fall on roads or my driveway, but... I haven't like the mild weather. My apple trees just budded, so I hope the rest of the winter isn't too hard on them. And I'm ok without Brewer games for the moment (sorry Hawing), as we have Packer playoffs to follow! After they win the Super Bowl, I'll be itching for ST to start. The Bucks just aren't enough to fill the gap... Man do I need to plan a trip to ST some year...
  22. de la Rosa was given up on by 4 organizations before he found success. You can't blame the Brewers for the one. I was pointing out the "People Complaining" on both sides of the issue, not blaming the Brewers. MLB teams eventually have to give up on guys that might find success elsewhere. It happens. Its just too early to do that with Parra, IMO. Also, at $1.2M, he is only $6-700k more expensive than a MLB minimum, right? Its not like we save the whole $1.2M by cutting him. DLR isn't a bad comp either, IMO. Power lefty with good AAA numbers and struggling MLB numbers (at this point in their careers). Both had some injury issues. Not saying Parra will be the next DLR, but its why guys with those skillsets keep getting more chances. Especially the left-handed ones.
  23. People complained when we kept putting Jorge De La Rosa out on the mound. People complained that we gave up on him to early and he succeeded with the Rockies. I'm willing to give Parra another chance. Plus, with Fielder no longer in the dugout, I think Parra will become a good SP again. Was it coincidence that he started pitching better out of the BP (when he didn't have to sit in the dugout)? I think not. edit - JB, FYI, I wasn't making fun of your "I think not" statement. I didn't see your post until after I posted mine. So: Jinx!
  24. Aw, I do this too. Maybe it's our similar mid-60s birthdates that lead us to this behavior. Nah I'm more mid-70s and I do it too. But its partly out of necessity, since I work with Ford and GM and its the only way to keep them from contracting themselves. In fact, most of the engineers here do that...
