  1. Goforth was #96 in Keith Law's rankings. Says he's a reliever. Goforth, go talk to Thornberg, please! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  2. He should at least be able to play RF, and it wouldn't be out of the question for him to try 3B, which is similar to 1B, except you have to have an arm. I wasn't really referring to Ramirez being limited to LF, as I hadn't heard he can play OF at all. I was referring to players in our system that can sort of play LF, but might also "fall back" into 1B. Ryan Braun and Kris Davis come to mind. If Ramirez can play OF at all, it would help him in our system I would think (not a lot of RFers). But I really doubt he can handle 3B if he isn't playing there already. Switching from 1B to 3B isn't just a matter of changing which corner you play at. 3B gets a LOT more hot shots than 1B. Arm strength is part of playing 3B, but not the hardest part. Ask Ryan Braun.
  3. Nothing against him directly (as I know nothing), but I don't care for the Ramirez pick. I'm all for BPA, but at this point in the draft, there must be several players that are pretty much ranked the same. And if there is something in our system that we are not lacking, its players limited to LF/1B. I would think there would be a SS/3B/2B/C type that would have been rated the same. edit- looks like ListachRides and I where thinking alike...
  4. Unless he sucked at those other sports, this guy is a tremendous athlete. If a comeback chopper ever gets over his head, I think we can safely declare him a total bust. Nah, he will have the "ups" to get all of those, but chances are he will spike the ball while throwing it to first base... http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  5. With this draft, we should be able to beat the Bucks now...
  6. Generally, the Brewers have waited to draft "tough sign" guys until after round 15...
  7. Law was pretty down-the-middle on these two picks. He described Jungmann as "being able to pitch behing Greinke and Gallardo" in the rotation with "#2 upside". That's good enough for me! If Law has them above a relief pitcher ranking, then you might as well start filling out their HOF ballots now. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  8. I really miss the draft and follow process. Seems like the Brewers were very proficient using that tool.
  9. I can see Komatsu in AAA before Schafer. The only CFer at AAA is Boggs. Yes, Komatsu isn't a "true" CFer, but I'd still like to see him spend more time there (seems like I've said that before. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif. I'm certain Schafer will spend the rest of the year at AA. He really hasn't spend much time there prior to this year. Unfortunately, we seem to be jamming up the pipe with 1B/LFer types (Morris, BK, KhDavis, Halton, etc...) and the 1B-only types like Morris are really stuck. I don't think he will move up this year. Pitchers are easier, since we don't have 5 starting pitching prospects anywhere to block guys from moving up.
  10. I've never understood how watching a HR ball is showing up a pitcher. I've never cared for it, because I've seen too many people watch as the ball bounced off the wall or was caught by an OFer. But as long as you aren't directing any "celebration" towards the pitcher or other team in general (taunting), I'm not too concerned about it. So I have no problems with how he left the batters' box. However, the "kiss" around 3rd isn't a good thing, no matter what the pitcher was saying (obviously the pitcher was involved, so why didn't that get mentioned?). I'm sure he needs a good dose of reality, but I don't think that chin music is going to help anything. Probably only make it worse. He might need humility, but delivered by opposing pitcher isn't the way to do it.
  11. Given some recent comments on Morris (not singling out you, CWH) I'd hope not, since I listed him among the A+ hitters... http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif I have a feeling that the Brewers REALLY like Morris. Not that he didn't have a good month to deserve POM, but there were a couple of better performances. I'm guessing some of the fanfare (and performance) at AA factored into it a bit.
  12. Being a road game we don't get Stu's audio call synchronized with it. Just silence. And a drunk camera man...
  13. Yes, I believe that the Cardinals are magic. Nah, just sold their soul to the devil... http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  14. I knew about the joke behind the avatar, so I held my tongue (keyboard?) at first, but I find it in very poor taste. It had its 15 min of fame, so I'm just hoping we can file it in the "remember when" category and move on.
  15. Just go watch "Airplane!" and you will find out how Tommy Lasorda decided that he needs 5 starters. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  16. He's hitting .300 this season too- maybe I was wrong... Can we "dump" the avatar then at least? I get it was a joke, but its grown old...
  17. Brandon Boggs I forgot he was at AAA (again). Otherwise, none of the rest of CFers. And a couple aren't even OFers anymore (Katin - not with his injury, Almonte - he wasn't until RR started playing him there). Last I heard they were going with Schafer in CF and Komatsu in RF or LF in AA. Same here, but that doesn't mean it has to stay that way... http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  18. I hope this means Komatsu moves up the AAA now. Even if he isn't expected to stick in CF, I'd like him to have the opportunity to beat those expectations. And in the game of Spring Training Backup CF Survivor, the winner is Brandon Boggs!
  19. Outside of Bucci, Ross, and Thornburg, none of whom are pitching above A ball, there hasn't been much to feel good about on the whole. In writing up the Player of the Month posts for the last two months, I've come to the same conclusion. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif At least Bucci and Ross have been nice surprises.
  20. I am a bit enamored with great fielding players who can hit. And you call yourself a Brewer fan? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  21. It is disappointing that his defense hasn't really improved over the years. I've always been under the impression Green's defense was very solid at 3B. What part of it do you see as lacking? Arm strength/accuracy? Glove work? Range? How do you compare him to Gamel and McGehee (ok, that is a low bar, but...)? And is that based off of seeing him play or box scores or ? I ask because my only basis is reading bf.net and box scores (i.e. very limited).
  22. Davis and Komatsu are out in front quite a bit for the offensive POY, but Morris and Gamel have a shot also (maybe Walker, too). Morris' numbers really surprised me this month. A very quiet 326/358/494/852, although his walk numbers aren't great. Moving to AA seems to have really motivated him. Bucci and Thornberg are neck and neck. I'd like to see them side by side in Brevard for the 2nd half to see if the humidity improves Thornberg's numbers a bit. Granted, Bucci's limited walks is probably more of a contributor to his success this year than the humidity. Scarpetta started slow, but again, quietly put up nice numbers last month.
  23. Yea, i have a feeling that Lawrie is going to eventually hit like a Braun lite type of player. I would be very surprised if that were true. This year has been to much of a spike for me to believe its (entirely) real, especially playing the PCL. And I remember him hitting balls hard at A-ball (also the "crack" jumped out at me), I really, really doubt he can carry an above 300 average. 270-280 would be more expected. High end, I see Weeks-like production with low-end around McGehee. Attitude and defensive-wise, he reminds me of Gary Sheffield.
  24. He's an Inverted W guy Nah, its "M" for Marcum! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  25. Imo the question is not merely, 'Is going from Betancourt -> Furcal worth the difference in contract?' That was a nice system level analysis of the situation...
