  1. Man, why is it always the Brewers that have pitching injuries??? I know that I am no longer believing the scouts, prognosticators, and other know-it-alls when they say, "this guy has perfect mechanics and will probably stay injury-free because of it." Mark Prior? BUZZZZ! Kerry Wood? BUZZZZ! Stephen Strasburg? BUZZZZ! No more of me listening to those "experts." Mike Jones... Also, thanks for the inverted W explanation.
  2. Wow, a bad outing pitching then get robbed at gunpoint... Not a good day (granted the attendant had a worse day, I'm sure).
  3. Yeah, that I understand... If we just want to dump him, let whomever claim him. But the main discussion is about trading him. Generally, (after the July trading deadline) teams put players on waivers and if no one claims them they can be traded. But if two teams claim him, he can't clear waivers for a trade...
  4. So it wouldn't be like the Brewers signing Scarpetta after failing his physical?
  5. If both the White Sox and Red Sox made a waiver claim on Hoffman, how would we trade him? If we trade him to one, the other will just claim him... Or is it one of those "we will let you claim him if you give us X?" actually, Hoffman's been very good for most of the year now. At this point I'd consider bringing him back next year, even if it's just as insurance should Axford struggle. No thank you. Everyone has been waiting for Hoffman to decline and I think its obvious that he has. We have enough young options right now that we don't need more high priced vets.
  6. Ok, I'll show my ignorance and ask... what is the inverted W?
  7. My first Brewer game and I was 12 or so. I was by the fence near the Brewer dugout and Glenn Braggs was sitting down. I asked for an autograph. After going out and warming up, he came over. A rush of kids came shoving their way into line. Glenn reached over a dozen or so to grab my card and sign it. To this day it is my only autographed BB card and on his rookie card too... Sad he didn't amount to much on the field.
  8. Its taken me a long time, as I'm still a bit miffed over 1987, but since the Brewers left the AL, I've kind of sorta rooted for the Twins. A Brewer/Twin WS would be awesome, IMO. But without the Milwaukee Brewers, I'd probably not follow MLB baseball that much. What can I say? I'm a homer...
  9. ...and what he called a 'bugs bunny' changeup. Cool! That's the one where you can strike out the whole side with one pitch! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zzqxIql0Pnk&sns=em Right around the 1:45 mark
  10. Granted, this is better than Desmond Bishop saying he is one of the top MLB in the NFL, since at least Gomez has been a starter and is only talking about the Brewers... but I'm still not crazy about this type of attitude. As a top athlete, I would expect anyone fighting for a job needs to have the attitude that they are the greatest thing since Cool Whip. Gomez has struggled, and any sort of defeatist or perhaps even negative realist attitude isn't going to help him break through. There is a middle ground between Cool Whip and defeatist. What if he had come out and said: "I'm not giving up my CF position without a fight. I realize I've struggled, but I'm going to work and improved and defend my starting position in CF." We would all be praising him for his clarity of thought and determination. But instead we are left to guess if he is speaking with bravado or just plain cluelessness (i.e. that he doesn't have anything he needs to improve).
  11. Ouch... scab came off the wound again. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  12. igor, yeah, that was more my train of thought in moving 1B up. I'm surprised about the chances in LF vs. RF. I figured the vast majority of RHBs would tend to hit more to LF.
  13. Gomez. Because to acquire TGJ would require some trade which would add needless debate on this forum about his worth and if we gave up too much, etc... Hows that for an angle you didn't expect? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Cain is our CF, so Gomez can either be a backup or a AAA CF. So I don't worry too much about either one.
  14. 1.SS 2.CF 3.C 4.2B 5.1B 6.3B 7.RF 8.LF 9.P I moved up the 1B because so many more balls are handled by the 1B. I realize that RF needs to have a stronger arm, but don't more balls end up in LF? So in a generic "overall sense" they would seem to be about the same.
  15. No, I saw the smiley, but I guess I figured true sarcasm would be blue. Even with the smiley, I thought you were defending his current P50 position by seriously saying he had a bad year last year. I was surprised when I first read it, because it wasn't a (serious) comment you would normally make... BTW, 16th is a good spot for him. My comment was that we could see him as a fast riser in AA next year, as I think his SLG will improve to OK (for a LF/RF) with still a nice OBP.
  16. I'm not sure how any results in 79 AB can be used to say he sucked. He was injured most of the year. His slugging .431 isn't great, but it compares to a max of .498 in the league. So in that light, its not so bad (10th in the league). Next year, he may be someone to watch for a fast riser. I would bet he is at AA with Schafer, so will probably play more RF/LF than CF (unfortunately).
  17. Well, I did peek at Haydel's stats earlier this year and was pleasantly surprised, I won't claim he deserves a P50 spot. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Glad to see Lasker and Kh Davis bumped up. That was my main complaint last time. Dykstra sure has made a great turn-around this year. I started reading this thread, thinking that it was a new and started at post #1. Someone commented about Dykstra being removed from the list and my eyes almost bugged out. But then I realized that was from earlier this year. Now he is back up to #25. Got to wish he could get together with Lintz, Adams, Fredrickson and some others to give them his secret!
  18. On Morris: ...but you try to open up some other options for him and move him around and see if he can play in the outfield and we're going to see if he can do that in the near future. I'm surprised. I figured he would be a 1B only type. Kind of nice to hear as Hawn is really pushing to be at A-ball, too. But with the Davises in LF and RF, not sure when or where Morris will get a chance...
  19. Fixed. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif I also am pretty surprised at how badly the scouting department has been bludgeoned based on the Covey thing. I'm not holding by breath on Arnett bouncing back (hopeful, but doubtful), but I don't blame the scouting department either. People sometimes just don't live up to expectations. You can't expect the scouts to bat 1.000...
  20. Covey was home-schooled. It's not uncommon for there to be a higher level of sheltering of the kids in those situations... Poor and incorrect stereotype. Especially on a kid that has played as much BB as Covey has and is going to SD for college.
  21. I can't believe this thread still has life... I'm as puzzled as anyone that the Brewers cut Romanski, especially considering their need to find SPs. But seems like we keep pulling the scab off the wound here... Can't we just track this in the alum thread with all the others that "got away"?
  22. Ok, I thought of this slightly more than that thread. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  23. Not sure that I care, but its news worthy... Passansums it up well.
  24. With a name like Maverick Lasker, he gets a #1 vote for that alone! I can see the PR department have a blast with him when he makes the MLB club. Fan favorite written all over him...
  25. Hopefully he is improving, but someone "saying three outstanding catches" is rather subjective and a small sample... i.e. Did you see that great diving catch that Edmonds made in CF the other day? Doesn't matter that Gomez would have caught it without diving and it would have been a ho-hum play instead.
