  1. He did leave the game on Saturday after being HBP twice; he was also hit twice in a game a few days before. Obviously, no one respects our minor leaguers either...
  2. Where are you getting that information? Tony LaRussa
  3. Offer arbitration to Bush.... Bush will turn down arbitration of course. I don't believe Bush is a type A or type B FA, so this would be pointless...
  4. These two are debatable. As have been most of the Brewers getting hit. I don't get to watch many games, but as reported here (even Gomez), most have been unintentional or questionable at best.
  5. Just something interesting to note on this discussion: Team Payroll Signing 2001 $43,089,333 3yrs/$21M - Jeffrey Hammond 2010 $79,857,502 3yrs/$26M - Corey Hart (although technically should be 2011 when the contract kicks in) While this doesn't prove the Hart signing a "good" one, maybe just that the Hammond signing was that bad. It at least won't be as crippling if Hart's production falls off a cliff like Hammond's did.
  6. Odorizzi has come up often when discussing promos. If it hasn't happened by now, not sure that it will. But its deserved. Lawrie is having a nice year, but I don't think 282/345/452/798 screams that he is in need of a promotion... Probably go to AAA next year, but I don't think he is playing above AA so much that he needs to move. Green is hitting the same or slightly better than Lawrie and is heating up. I think he should be promoted, especially since he has shown he can handle AA pitching. That would also give some incentive to have Gamel play RF/1B also. And Lawrie could play more 3B, too... Still wondering why Rivas and Rogers are held at AA. Both Davis' (Kh and Ke), Pokorny and Gennett could head to A+. I wonder if they would skip Kentrail to AA next year... I'd leave Dykstra to finish a strong season at A-ball. Hate to bump him and chance him finishing on a sour note. Hawn belongs in A-ball, but with Morris and Dennis, he is blocked.
  7. this hurt my brain... http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  8. It's not like there are any news releases to report that negotiations aren't progressing with a 15th-round draft pick. Well, no, but there have been reports (mainly for the 20+ picks) about going to college. And you always seem to have some inside scoops. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  9. We would have to pay most of Hoffman's salary to trade him. Pretty doubtful. Coffey or Riske would be the most likely target, IMO.
  10. Jeffress is probably up there, but I haven't heard...
  11. So, theoretically, if a team offered more than you think Axford is worth you would not consider it? Do we really have to go there? For the record, if a Genie granted me 3 wishes, my third wish would be for 3 more wishes. If we can get King Felix for Axford, yes, I trade him. Now, back to reality. What do the Brewers need the most? Young, talented, cheap pitching. Wish granted, you have Axford, why trade him for something when he embodies what we need (knowing that no one is going to offer you someone cheaper, or younger, or a higher ceiling). Sorry if this is kind of snarky. Of course, no one is untouchable. But lets weed out the unlikely "what ifs" and try to deal with the probable at least.
  12. Whether it was the injury or whatever last year, he lost some velocity in the 2nd half last year. Thismakes it pretty clear. He hasn't regained his 1st half 2009 velocity, but it is increasing... Any evidence that Narveson will be better or just gut feeling? The only thing I can see that Narveson has on Bush is K and BB rates. But Bush has never had great K rates, so I'm not sure that matters. Despite his better K and BB rates, Narveson has yet to have prolonged success as a starter. And those rates are trending downwards... Frankly, as a SP, neither is trending in the right direction but if Bush's velocity comes back up to 1st half 2009, he will make a serviceable 4/5th starter. Narveson's best position is as a LOOGY, as his RH/LHB splits are pretty strong.
  13. Closers, generally speaking, should not be hard to come by; You are correct. Whomever is the last pitcher is your closer. They are easy to find. However, good closers are hard to come by and normally expensive, as DJ43 just mentioned. One thing we absolutely, positively NOT be doing is selling our high talent youngsters. We are finally getting into a situation where at least our BP can be filled with live-armed cheap, talented youngsters. (Axford, Braddock, Stetter, Dillard, Kintzler...). Unless you are sure that Axford is going to go all Turnbow on us, no way do you trade him now...
  14. Except he has to be moved from the MLB to make room for Gallardo's start tonight.
  15. So, I'd imagine that Pierce won't sign until after the World championships are done. But any word on whether he will sign or not? Also, any updates on: Rafael Neda, Michael White Chris Bates Andrew Morris Rowan Wick signing? Apologies if I'm just looking in the wrong spot. Just haven't heard much about them lately.
  16. That was a rather disappointing outing by Chase Wright as he was having a solid year and may have even been called up eventually if he continued to progress. That was highly doubtful. He is 27 now. Been a 4+ ERA pitcher in fours seasons at AAA. Maybe as a lefty out of the pen, but I would imagine several pitchers would be called up before he would (Stetter, Smith, Dillard, Butler, Rivas, Rogers).
  17. That the brewers main prpblem most of the guys are 4/5 th starters. Close. Their problem is that their best pitcher is a #1 Gallardo 2nd best is a #3/4 Wolf 3rd best is a #4/5 Bush 4th best is a #6/7 Parra 5th best is a LOOGY: Narveson Bush is hardly a problem to focus on for this year. Parra and Narveson are not MLB starting grade pitchers (at least right now). I'm pretty sure neither will become that either. But better to find that out this year than next. Bush's pending FA is really the only reason to move him right now. If we had two pitchers in-between Gallardo and Wolf, I'd be perfectly happy with Bush as #5. What I mean by Bush being Bush is that he once again has an ERA below league average. The NL average for a starter is 4.14, lower than usual. Of course, by league average, that would be the definition of a #3 starting pitcher, right? Bush was there before last night...
  18. If they got 2-3 solid years out of Braddock and then he got hurt, by then any one of a number of guys toiling in Appleton or Brevard should be ready. When did they ever get 2-3 solid years out of Braddock? If I remember correctly, he was injured (more than a few weeks) every year he started. Not sure about 2006, though... The most innings he as ever thrown was back in 2008: 71.1 Another interesting tid-bit: His only success as a starter was in 2007. When he had 9 starts at low A-ball. He didn't have good stats in 2006 at R+, nor in 2008 at A+. Personally, I want to see Braddock to return to starting, but I want to see him healthy a few years in a row before trying that. But as others have stated, I doubt the Brewers try it, as he is succeeding in the pen right now and has closer potential. I don't know who Billy Travers was, but who cares? Just because someone has done it in the past doesn't mean we should try it with Braddock. Talk about your small samples... I've heard of people surviving a fall from an airplane without their parachute, but it doesn't mean I'm going to do it. (what color do we highlight hyperboles with?) BTW, Johan Santana was a SP for his entire career in the minors. As a rule 5 pick, he moved to the pen and then back to SP. 1999: 160 IP (MiLB) 2000: 86 IP 2001: 43.2 2002: 108.1 + 48.2(MiLB) 2003: 158.1 He has proved that his arm could handle starting. All of Braddock's evidence has shown other-wise.
  19. Two issues I have with that: 1) How many innings could he pitch as a starter? 120? 2) He has never proven durable enough to be a starter. That isn't an excuse to not start him, but a red flag. I'd like to see him relieve one more year before trying him as a starter. Give him a couple "clean" years injury wise first. Yes, they'd have to find a lefty bullpen specialist... Stetter? edit- trwi7: that was just scary how similar our posts were...
  20. I need to ask another question the is central to this discussion: Why is it wrong to celebrate a home run? People complain about the NFL (no fun league) because they crack down on touchdown celebrations. Now, I appreciate Barry Sanders and the "act like you've been there before"- hand the ball to the ref celebration. And I'm not crazy about Ocho-Cinco planned elaborate celebrations. But impromtu emotional celebrations are great! You just scored; your supposed to be happy! Emotion drives momentum! I've heard that its ok to bean someone when: - Plan a celebration - bowling pins, pull out shirt-tails - He watches the HR clear the fence - He takes "too long" to run around the bases - He just hits a home run - nothing more needed than that. Just bean him the next time up. Play the chin music... Sorry, it just doesn't make sense to me...
  21. A grown man shouldn't be writing an e-mail telling on another grown man for something that happens in a game. He shouldn't have to have to complain. It should have been obvious and handled automatically by the league. Jeremy Jeffress should make his debut and uncork a 100mph rib job onto Hanson. You guys need to study the Hatfield and McCoys. Trying to injure their player because they hurt ours? Kind of reminds me of the late '80s in the NFL when defensive players were intentionally trying to hit the offensive player as hard as possible (did Chuck Cecil always have blood on his nose?). Trying to knock someone out of the game. The NFL finally starting cracking down and people went back to focusing on football again. The game is baseball. Pitching inside is part of baseball. Accidental HBP are part of baseball. Intentional beaning and throwing behind players is immature. Good way to hurt someone.
  22. At some point, I guess I don't know why a grown man has to throw a baseball at someone because they took too long to get around the bases. FTJ, great summary and a great post. If plunking was "part of the game", it would be in the rule books on how to do it (as there are rules on hard slides into a base).
  23. MVP season for Weeks? Even for Brewer MVP, Hart has the lead at this point...
  24. His low readings came when he taking something off the try to find the strikezone. He's been at his normal velocity when he's in a groove, and has been seen as high as 97 this year. That is very good to hear. I had not seen/heard/read that. Just reports of him in the mid-80s and people speculating that was his main problem. Brewer quit baseball 2 months ago, that's the primary reason he's not on the list. He was in the top 10 of the Power 50 a number of times in late '07-early '08, and was still on the list in August of last year. Should have marked that blue... Trying to use hyperbole to show that for a prospect to remain a prospect, potential has to show up as production at some point. If Arnett is still struggling 3 and 4 years into his pro career, he certainly won't be as high as he is now. As it is, he signed 13 months ago and has 107 innings of pro experience. Not a great 107 innings to be sure, but the stuff is still basically there. Well, yes, obviously. And he isn't as high now as he was a year ago, so his struggles have shown in your rankings. I just think that Khris at 22, killing A-ball should be higher than Arnett at 22, who has struggled mightily at both A and R+, this year and last. Sure, Arnett has more potential, but there are some big red flags waving right now also... Maybe this is overcompensation for taking Dykstra off the P50 after a bad year (eerily similar to Arnett this year?) only to have him bounce back? I'd happily have Arnett bounce back like Dykstra. I'll put back my signature about the "Great selection of Awesome!". http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  25. Good. I don't like the you-plunked-me-so-I-plunk-you attitude. Sorry, I've grown past 5th grade. I'm glad that MLB can step in and handle it the right way. St. Louis may not think this is classy, but its the right way to do it. Macha just gained a bit of my respect, whether he effected this suspension or not.
