    I'd be surprised to see Avina (#29), Sanchez (not ranked), Brady (not ranked), Devanney (not ranked), making much of a dent at the MLB level. Only one was top 30... barely. Avina is now ranked as #30 for the Yanks too. I know we grow attached to those guys (I still think about "Little Tree Komatsu" whenever I go past a construction site), but 99.9% of this guys are minor league roster fillers. When we got Bauer, we were all hoping he was insurance for something better at 1B. Looks like he should have room on the bench. Joe Ross always felt like a this year's Rae or Houser. Never a lock for the SP rotation given his injuries and lack of pitching for 2 years. Most likely headed to RP, but can provide SP depth. Not bad at $1.75M. Rae proved himself to be a decent 5th man in the rotation. As a 4th, he gets a bit more shaky. $4.5M deal. Clarke has an option year left, so you can guess where that is going. Oliver Dunn - didn't we actually get him? 😉 As for the $7-8M these guys are making... there is a minimum for MLB players and this wasn't much more than that. I mean, we have to spend somewhere...

    Most ST trades tend to be the roster filler types. When the music stops and someone is left without a chair... but still mildly useful to someone...trade them for a bucket of balls so team B doesn't have to sift through the waiver wire. If someone has concerns about Wiemer's bat and Mitchell's health, they will want to see them in real BB for a few months before giving up anything of value.

    Most of the people you mentioned as blocked or having a rough path are pretty low end roster players anyway. It isn't like plans roll out in linear fashion... you have to strike when an opportunity rolls you way. Sometimes it is "wasted" as the player is released or sent to AAA, but how do you predict you can get player X three months after trading for player Y. Better to have too many players than too many holes in the line-up. ST will sort some things out, poor play, injuries, and trades still happen.

    Safety is an obvious need, but CB is actually a sneaky need for the Packers right now. Alexander has had back issues. Stokes has been injured for essentially 1.5 years, so who knows what his level of play will be when (if?) he is finally healthy. And Valentine (being a 7th rounder) might be better suited to Joe Barry's heavy zone D than Hafley's heavy man D*. Certainly some risk in your top 3 CBs. Plus Nixon and Ballentine are both FAs. A CB in round 1 would not surprise me at all. If it is a round 1 safety... I hope the guy is a gamechanger. Seems like so many 2nd and 3rd round safeties have as much impact as the 1st rounders. * seems like Valentine played a lot of man in college, but often late round picks blossom because of the system and struggle in others. I'd say this risk is probably much smaller than Alexander and Stokes' health risks.

    The more I read about new DC Hafley, the more I think we should bring Savage back as a FA. Savage was clearly our best safety last year. He wasn't outstanding (and he still missed tackles), but overall he was solid. Savage started out strong the first couple years in the league. He regressed mightily the last few. Not surprisingly that coincided with Joe Barry's hiring as DC. Hafley (at least in college) played a lot of single high safety. Savage's speed fits that defensive plan pretty well. Hafley has been lauded for his work with DBs. If anyone can unlock Savage's capabilities, it will be him. I'm assuming Savage will be reasonably priced given his down years and we will need 2-3 safeties this year. I think Savage could very well bounce back (or break out?) under Hafley.

    I saw Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021) this weekend. It's a heavy homage to the original with a Goonies-like feel to it. My wife and I had several LOL moments and a few touching moments. They did a good job capturing the original movie's feel and humor.

    Wiemer is really easy to like. The Athletic ability, the gung-ho attitude... it feels like a 12 year old out there in a man's body. Great underdog story. But for his sake, I hope he starts in AAA... I hope they have been working on his swing to close some of those holes and I want him to have a low pressure spot to refine it. One step back to (hopefully) produce 3 steps forward. His floor as a defensive OFer is already achieved. But it would be great to be able to unlock his contact and make his power all the more potent.

    Surprise trade of the year. Is Sacramento so bad that they are going the minor league baseball route and providing as much sideline entertainment as possible?

    The show was like watching a train wreck... with nudity. Not much there. As someone who has seen all the shows of all the Stargate series and movies (and some many times).... This was horrible. My wife and I watched it, waiting for the authors to course correct, but it was a major crash and burn.

    I do think that Jaire would do well inside... but also simply following a WR around. Sounds like we will be doing more man-to-man with this new DC. While the slot does have some unique challenges... mainly change of direction. But it isn't like outside CBs can't do it. Not everyone is going to be as good... but the key is finding good CBs. I think if you try to find a good slot and good outside - separating them... I think you'll find neither. If you find multiple good outside CBs, you are going to find a few that do well inside.

    He was talking about the Burnes trade. I don't get why people thinking signing Hoskins is suddenly so confusing without Burnes. With or without Burnes, we had a gap at 1B. The contract wasn't crazy expensive. Even if all he does is play for a season and move on... that doesn't mean it was a bad signing. People complain when we don't spend money; people complain when we do. I guess the takeaway is that people complain.

    It almost seems like this is the year of all years to go with a 6 man rotation. They have so many guys that will be on innings limits... Ashby, Gasser, Hall. Plus Miley would benefit from a lower work load to keep him healthy.
