  1. you have got to be kidding me. This will shut snell up!
  2. As great as he has been at the plate so far, I think his defense has been tremendous. Some of the catches he made in Houston were outstanding. Hopefully when he cools off at the plate, his defense keeps up!
  3. Unfortunately this month is starting to feel like september of 2008
  4. Hey! Great story. I was in new york on a business trip and went to the game. I was sitting 5 rows behind you in section 121. It was great to hear doug and gord are such great guys. I was trying to watch their reaction on certain plays and tbey didn't show much positive or negative. Although i hear you about seeing balls down the lines, i though the stadium was very nice. My friend and i got there about 1 hour early and toured the park. It was very nice like an updated version of miller park. I think both parks had the same designer. I will say this, miller park's beer and food selection were/are far superior to citi field. I sometimes forget how nice miller park really is!
  5. From what I've heard against the cubs, he has sounded more like a brewer announcer than cub fan. I think he has been better than expected.
  6. I have a feeling as soon as Hoffman is ready to come off the DL, Riske will have a recurrence of elbow pain with a 30 day minor league rehab to follow.
  7. Mark me down for 13 wins.
  8. It works well to read from my iphone, but posting is difficult from a size standpoint.
  9. These are really interesting numbers. Thanks for the link. I never would have thought that Brian Giles would be worth so much. He is more than double Braun's number. With Brewers winning 90 games and having no one on this list in the top 30, it must mean that the pitching was extremely good. The old adage of pitching wins . . .
  10. I'm still confused why people thought 2009 would be a rebuilding year. We are losing 2 pitchers from a 90 win team, one only pitched for us half a year and the other is replaced by Gallardo. There is absolutely no reason for 2009 to be a rebuilding time. We are playoff contenders again most likely. Although I agree with you that we should be playoff contenders in 2009, many on this board have speculated that it would be a semi-rebuilding year. You know better than I that the 2 pitchers we lost or may lose are 2 of the best 5-6 starters in the NL. This is misplaced in this thread but is it reasonable to assume that Gallardo can replace Sheets' production?
  11. If it is Showalter or another "proven" manager I wonder if it means that the Brewers don't look at 2009 as somewhat of a rebuilding year. I'm guessing they go hard after free agent pitching and we won't see Escobar or Gamel in a major role for 2009. I also doubt Hardy or Fielder would get traded in this scenario.
  12. I don't think the 200-250 innings on Sabathia are the same as they are on Oswalt, Lincecum or even Sheets. Obviously odds are against him or any pitcher being healthy for six more years and it would be a huge risk if they were to sign him. I like his odds of being effective for the next six years more than most despite his physical features. I say that partly because of what i perceive to be his mental makeup. If I were an owner I certainly wouldn't want to risk the franchise "mental makeup" though. The owners have to decide if the risk of signing him and potential financial benefits of signing him are worth the risk. I would love to have him for three years, but I don't see that as reality. It is hard for me to say if I am for or against signing him because I don't know how it would effect the rest of the make up of the team either way. My own personal guess is that we don't sign him and stay around an 84-88 win team for the next four years. If we sign him there is probably a small window to win over 90 games and potentially a championship, but also with injury be below .500.
  13. I know this is a different sport, but I believe it applies. Ron Wolf has been quoted saying that he would never overpay for "good" players, but would pay whatever it takes for the "great" or elite player. I would put Sabathia in the elite category. I know that the financial situations are different, but if you sign him for six years at $130 million and the brewers are playing for a meaningful september (playoff contention) in five of those years is it worth it? I would think so, but I don't know how to really measure his financial value.
  14. I'm sorry. I meant overall when I mentioned Fielder and Lee. I wonder where Hardy would be at third or second base.
  15. thanks for that. It is very interesting. If I am reading it right it looks like Prince has a better metric than D. Lee. I am very surprised by that.
  16. I am laughing so hard I can't stop crying from reading those posts from Bring Back the Stein.
  17. Thanks for the info. Is there a metric that compares defense plays made or outs to the average player at that position? I might not want to see it but it would be interesting.
  18. does anyone know how many years brandon phillips had before he "turned it on"? Not that rickie can field like phillips but I always thought he could hit like Phillips
  19. I'm wondering if weeks is in centerfield next year and the brewers save money by not picking cameron's option
  20. All I ask is no strikes to Soriano. Pinella has said he is throwing is regular lineup against a left hander today.

  22. the whole key is pedro stinks and harden is well. Score a couple on pedro early harden shuts them out for 5 and rain ends the game
  23. 2009-- Hall and Lamb Platoon 2010 -- Gamel, Hardy at 2nd, Escobar at SS
