  1. I think the 40 man is at 39. They could have purchased Bethancourt's contract. I like it though.
  2. I like Barnes. Last night was weird and not typical. He has stretches where he is just dominate. The blown save Saturday was not his fault at all. Luck and defense let him down. Drake to me should go. I know the peripherals with him are what keeps him around. Pulling Suter and putting him in that situation last night really frustrated me. Last night in general was one of the first times I have really disagreed with Counsel’s bullpen use. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. I think with Cain’s injury. Phillips is gonna have to stay? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. I think Burnes and Nelson will be part of rotation by June. That usually avoids the super 2 for Burnes. Guerra will have to start in Wednesday. I think Brewers need to see what Woodruff, Guerra and Suter provide before removing them from the rotation. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. If the tear is high off the bone then it is surgery and done for year. If mid-substance (more muscle) then it can heal. Depending on grade of tear 4-12 weeks of healing time. Not necessarily a 60 day DL thing. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. I am not convinced a hamstring will be a full 60 days. The MRI will be key on the grade of injury. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. I would say the earliest would be 4 weeks, but 6-8 weeks more likely. Depends on which muscle involved and where the tear is located. If it is mid substance and truly mild that would be the shortest time frame. The muscle or mid-substance area has a much better blood supply than a tendon. Thus it heals much faster. If it involves tendon or attachment area it heals slower and that is where PRP/Stem Cells are an option to induce or speed up healing.
  8. I will be more active. I have been on this board for a long time. Just not much of a poster especially on injuries simply because of misinformation from the press or because I know stuff that I cant say due to where I trained and knowing the Brewers doctors. I am not affiliated with then or the Brewers at all now, but am local. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. As soon as the injury happened I did a literature search on professional pitchers and bankart injuries. I did not find much if at all published. I personally have not had to fix one in a high level thrower. Bottom line is there isnt much data to predict how he will do.
  10. When pitchers typically have labral issues it usually refers to the SLAP (Superior Labrum Anterior Posterior). One of the biceps attachments is to this part of the labrum. During throwing mechanics the biceps is very important in the deceleration phase of a pitch. (https://www.physio-pedia.com/Throwing_Biomechanics) Link is a very good explanation. When the biceps is injured, SLAP tear occurs or Rotator Cuff torn it is very difficult to fully recover and be an elite thrower again. There are a lot reasons why and it is very complex. We probably are not good yet perfecting the repair for throwers. Nelson's injury did not involve that area according to reports. His was a bankart tear which is the anterior inferior labrum. This is injured during a shoulder dislocation. This can be repaired and since no major muscle attaches here it should (in theory) not effect his throwing mechanics in the same way. I predicted June as a good timeline for his return and it sounds like that is the Brewer's goal as well. The biggest concern with this surgery is that his shoulder was not tightened up too much with the repair. As long as he regains his full range of motion and full rotator cuff strength, he should be able to return. Hopefully it will be to his elite level he had last year. It would be a huge boost to team in June/July.
  11. That was me. I am sports medicine trained orthopedic surgeon.
  12. He was. Thought it was a rib injury from basketball or something like that. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. My only question is Cobb that much better than the internal options? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. I thought Fullmer had a ulnar nerve transposition? A UCL is a big difference. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. Nelson’s was a bankart tear vs a SLAP tear. Much better results for a pitcher with a bankart tear vs a SLAP tear. I thought June was a good guess for him to be back in the rotation. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. I would rather get Archer, and tolerate the prospects given up. Archer’s performance and saving a draft pick is better than Cobb’s performance and price in my opinion. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. I have full faith that 2018 will be a better year for the Crew. To talk about regression of 23 and 24 year olds makes no sense in my opinion. They could have a down year but they could all improve. Phillips and Arica can learn to cut down their strike outs. They can also improve their pitch selection. Anderson could regress because his HR rate was low this year, but he also learned to command 4 pitches now. He could be just a good pitcher now. Nelson I believe will be back by second half of the year. I do not believe his injury will be a long term problem. I think the Brewers should spend money on the bullpen. I believe they have enough quality starters if you include Suter, Woodruff, Burnes, Jungman, F Peralta, Guerra, Ortiz and possibly even Lopez. Some of those guys could become quality pen arms as well. Add the fact that the Brewers have a lot of money to spend and an owner who pushes to be aggressive I think the hot stove league is gonna be fun this winter!
  18. He looks like he could develop more power. Maybe a 20 HR guy at Miller Park if he gets enough at bats. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. Not that easy. Takes too long to rebuild arm strength. Its like a knee scope. Typically takes 4-6 weeks to get back on field. Shoulders take longer for a pitcher to come back. If just a debridement he will be ready opening day though. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. We can hope! A debridement procedure (simple clean out) is a quick easy recovery Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. Sweet for me. San Diego is my second home! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. The news in Nelson is sad but might not be devastating. He would not need surgery for a rotator cuff strain. He has a partially torn anterior labrum not a SLAP tear, which is a superior labrum. Partially torn labrum is a little confusing. Depending on what it means and his physical exam he could rehab with a PRP injection for example. He could have a scope with a debridement which is very different then a repair. I dont know the stats on recovery for pitchers who have had labral debridements. When superior labral, SLAP, surgery and capsular shifts are done prognosis is very poor. Urias is having this which is not good. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. I agree 1b needs an upgrade Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  24. Looking towards 2018 best guesses for upgrades are 1b, 2b and CF. CF more than likely Brinson/Phillips. I dont think Thames/Aguilar are good enough for 1b. Thats where a trade or Hosmer might work. I think you give Villar one more year. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  25. IDK, with Taylor's injury history may be smarter to keep him in pen. I saw someone just on here(LouiseEly maybe) quote someone from the medical staff who said that once the shoulder and elbow are fully healed, there's no more reason to expect further injury beyond what you'd expect from anyone else. Edit-This was from an old post and I am not sure who made the comment. I also wonder if the pen is more apt to keep a pitcher healthy than the rotation unless they use a guy like we used Hader. Don't get him up unless he's pitching and give him 3 days off after he pitches. Either way, it's going to be fun just to watch him pitch and it's a cool story. Guy had to be thinking his career was..at least in limbo, two years out of the game, and now he's pitching in a Sept race. With elbows and TJ surgery in today's world that is mostly true. Shoulders not so much. Urias's injury, which is a loose capsule requiring a capsular shift, is very possibly career ending. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
