  1. Or it tells us they had room on the 40 man roster at this point in time. Nothing stopping them from removing him when a spot is needed.
  2. Well at least it won't be as hard getting starters to fill out the AAA roster in San Antonio compared to Colorado Springs.
  3. I could see not keeping Suter on the 40 man, as he won't be available at all in 2019, and who knows how good he would be in 2020.
  4. I get we are winning now, so for that reason it is a good time. But ignoring that, wasn't the good time a couple of years ago? Haven't tv ratings (so ad revenues) been going down for baseball in general?
  5. No way. I think you are giving Miley more credit than what the 30 MLB GMs will.
  6. According to spotrac, Jordan Lyles contract is $1M for 2019. But since baseball reference and this article say it is $3.5 with a buyout to boot - I assume this is the right amount. That makes things a lot more interesting to see whether we keep him or not. https://www.mlb.com/brewers/news/brewers-players-with-2019-contract-options/c-299957776
  7. I plan to work to 63. My wife to 61. She has the health insurance. Should have enough in an HRA at that point to get to medicare. I could retire sooner, but I expect I may spend more in retirement than when I am working, as I will actually have the time to travel, etc.
  8. We already have a ton of pitchers even if we trade Anderson, and don't re-sign Jennings and Soria, and Peralta starts the year in AAA (and Albers is still toast). I would like to see how this pen works before spending FA dollars. Save those dollars when you bring in the guy at the trading deadline that you always do if you are in the race. 5: Burnes, Chacin, Davies, Nelson, Woodruff 10: Albers, Barnes, Cedeno, Guerra, Hader, JJ, Knebel, Lyles, Houser, T.Williams
  9. Other than having the quickness to come up on balls in front of him, he has the arm, accuracy, glove at 3B. Shaw looked better at 2B than I would have guessed.
  10. I disagree. You don't give away stuff like that. He was sitting at an easy 97-98 in his stints with the big club. He brings a similar body type and pitch types to what Woodruff brings. I think if they are serious about putting Woodruff and Burnes in the rotation, Houser is one of the top candidates to fill the role of multi-inning reliever. The problem is, we only have so many spots and they really like their guys with flexibility. If you are going to go into 2019 with Houser, there is no sending him down to work on anything, you just have to live with the growing pains. It makes no sense to me if they intended on him being a part of the 2019 team, why he didn't at least get a long look in September. Seems to me we are just okay with room. I would plan on trading Anderson and letting Jennings (Cedeno) (QTC injured) go. Then in a perfect world and everyone is healthy, I would send Peralta back to AAA to be the next man up (plus you can save some innings on his arm). So at this point you have two extra arms. And we know someone will get hurt in spring training, and Albers really has to show you can trust him. If run short, you can have Derby and Supak on the shuttle up and down. I don't think you need to have as much shuttling up and down from AAA, when you have Guerra, Houser and Lyles that can go 3 innings at a time if needed. 5: Burnes, Chacin, Davies, Nelson, Woodruff 10: Albers, Barnes (option?), Cedeno, Guerra (option?), Hader, JJ, Knebel, Lyles, Houser, T.Williams (option?) Do we have a link with accurate options remaining still?
  11. Aggie is fine. He pressed after the All-Star game, even admitting that he was pressing to get that 100th RBI(for whatever reason). But that's what happens with young players. They go through struggles. I don't feel like Aguilar is fairly treated in this forum at all. His WORST month he had a .770 OPS. Not exactly a scrub or a Cris Carter type hitter. Chris Carter OPSd .821 for all of 2016 with the Brewers. Aguilar OPS'd ~.810 the last three months of this season. I logically think it should be questioned if the league figured him out to some extent or some other reason that maybe the .810 is most realistic of his future projection going forward. At min. wage I don't see him going anywhere.
  12. Maybe I am missing something - it sure looks to me he spiked him on purpose and easily could have moved his leg to miss him. I like how he grabbed him in the groin region to hold him up. Want the video to go another second to see if he gets a shot in while he is at it.
  13. He's about as good a 5 hitter as anyone on the team against LHP's. They all chase junk pitches. They're all free swingers. But not a lot of them are bad against LHP's so Hernan was often there by default. This team matched up so bad against lefty starters at the end of the year. I guess I don't understand the people that are saying that they need to acquire more lefty hitters. I suppose a lot of that is that the guys that are theoretically supposed to crush lefties (Cain, Braun, Aguilar, Schoop, Santana) just didn't. I assume 65-75% of starters are righties. You need to make the playoffs before you worry about how you will do against specific teams in the playoffs. We need another lefty stick (or someone that hits righties well) if Moose leaves - unless you expect more out of Thames next year (I wouldn't plan on it). It would seem the opening would be 2B. And that position is hopefully just a caretaker position until Hiura gets here. So target someone in free agency that isn't expecting a long-term deal or trade for someone in same circumstance. Lowrie, Murphy, Walker look to be a few that may fit the bill. Worst case is Perez and his .785 OPS against lefties platoons with them. There is no guarantee that Ryu and Kershaw will even be Dodgers next year and Hill will be 39. I assume one or both of Hamels and Montgomery will not be in the Cubs starting rotation.
  14. Not really a pertinent stat. If you know you are only pitching two innings, obviously you are going to throw only your best pitches. I assume it would be more of a mixture if he knew the goal was 6-7 innings of work.
  15. There's a very apparent reason he wasn't starting for the Brewers in 2018. He was a 2-pitch pitcher who could dominate in shorter spurts. And he was a big part of their late season success in that role. It's also why he can't just be penciled in to make 35 starts and pitch 200+ innings in 2019. There is a way to have him be one of your stalwarts from Opening Day right on through October while throwing 150-160 innings though. Are you mixing up Burnes with Woodruff? I thought Burnes has four pitches that are at least ML average. Whereas, I thought Woodruff is maybe a guy that might get dinged up hard the third time through a lineup.
  16. I really like this plan. Resign Miley only if not too expensive or long. #4 should be a lefty stick. Daniel Murphy for a year, if not too costly. I would trade Anderson. We hurt his trade value, but looks like odd man out. I do think we have the scenario where Moose takes the $15M for one year (which takes care of #4). In that scenario I trade Thames for whatever - save $6M. Shaw and Braun should probably get used to 1B anyways, if Aguilar gets in rut. Either scenario should have money left for midseason improvement.
  17. Haha, did you catch the Infield Fly Rule discussion last night as well? If they would have dropped that ball, I think they could have had a double play. Aguilar was jogging down to first. So go to 1B first, then you have the tag play on Yelich trying to get to 2nd. Obviously more risky then anyone would try in the playoffs. But, if for some reason the ball takes a really weird hop, you go straight to 2B to be safe.
  18. Optimistically, the Brewers just made some more money, for Stearns to use, by guaranteeing another home game. Did anyone see any articles on how much revenue teams can expect for home playoff games?
  19. He got up and was warming up when it was only a two run game. I know some managers nowadays keep the plan to put a reliever in the game regardless of score if they have already been warming up. That shouldn't be too new a territory for the talking heads.
  20. Is Goldschmidt that much better than Aguilar that it would be worth giving up Jesus's control plus probably more for one year of Goldy? Age 31 Goldschmidt @ $14.5M plus the following draft pick when we don't end up keeping him in FA is not worth four years of cheap (one team control, 3 yrs of arby) Age 29-32 Aguilar - unless you think Aguilar is just the .809ops guy he was Jul-Sep. Which would seem to be a valid concern if he were tail off any more.
  21. So since the Nationals could only spend $300K in international signings, is that the amount they traded away? Seems like a steal for a decent chance to get a valuable reliever.
  22. I mean, look at the American League outside of HOU/NYY/BOS/OAK/SEA/CLE and tell me any of those teams made a serious effort to win. Also I strongly disagree that the Brewers plan was not to win this year. They were 1 game away from the Postseason last year. Stearns wasn't just going to sit and wait. It's a bit of a complex debate, though. Have owners/GMs realized that tanking is a reasonable way to win a World Series? Yes. Have owners then decided that they can skim off the top as well? Yes. I don't think it is that the owners just figured out tanking will fill the coffers. I think they have realized they can get away with it (to some extent). By that I mean, their ticket buying public is maybe more knowledgable about tearing it down and rebuilding like Houston and not holding it against the team too badly. In the past, maybe everybody would be on the radio raising heck or cutting off all ticket purchasing. Now I think the fans are more forgiving about a rebuild as long as they can see it going somewhere.
  23. I don't see using historical numbers with Davies, when he hasn't even pitched against the Dodgers this year. At this point, it would be how well has Davies pitched the last month. To me he has pitched average in September. I don't think that is enough to get him on the roster over Anderson (and not sure Anderson makes it). My vote would be to drop one of Broxton, Granderson, Schoop and add Cendeno. If they want to replace Peralta with Anderson, I would have no problem with that. But make sure pitch Anderson pitches at LA and Miley pitches in Milwaukee. LA is still harder to hit a HR at, right? Chacin games 1, 4, 7 Miley games 2, 6 (want to get Miley games at Miller Park - as ground ball pitcher) Gonzalez (with quick backup) 3 Bullpenner 5 (day off after this game) You have Guerra, Peralta, and Woodruff to eat innings if there is a bad start.
