  1. Kinda hard to believe that "the chips are all in now" when the Brewers payroll is less than the Bucks. The Brewers current payroll is about $121 million while the Bucks current payroll is $126.5 million, the Bucks payroll is expected increase in the upcoming offseason. I think Mark A should still has some chips left that he's not letting people know. Brewers at the present time are no longer a small market team in regards to current revenue. Lasts years playoff revenue & increase in attendance Has moved us to lower mid-market. Mid-market teams can support a payroll of 150 mil+. With another double digit increase in attendance this year plus another possible playoff run not to mention a new tv deal coming....sign kimbrell and Gio to 1 or 2 year deals and lets go win a World Series! I don't think the 2.85M fans makes up for having one of the 3 worst TV contracts in all of MLB. You also have to keep in mind the revenue per attendance. I'm sure the Mets 2.25M attendance brought in more revenue to the Mets than the Brewers 2.8M fans. But definition of mid-market is obviously subjective.
  2. I would think they would want him somewhere warmer than Appleton.
  3. Is this true? That seems crazy to me. I mean, they sell the parking on their website and through SSH packages...why would they waste resources doing that if they didn't get a cut? They probably also own the land. I imagine some 3rd party probably runs the operation, and the Brewers get x%. I am sure they get a cut, but I think most of it is going to someone else. It came up at some point I am not sure why...but it did. I think it had to do with parking at an unplanned game or event that was a disaster and it was mentioned the Brewers don't really control parking. The team also receives all revenue from parking, special events, party suites, conference center bookings, photo rentals, guided tours and sponsorships. Miller Park is big business. 2015 article https://www.milwaukeemag.com/insidethemillerparktax/
  4. The downside would be that at 33 he does even worse than last year, and they still give him a bunch of starts waiting to see if he will come around. If he performs like last year, then that’s a huge addition. Even slightly less would be good. Did you think he sucked as a Brewer? No, I don't think he sucked as a Brewer. I also am not going to weigh those 25 innings near as much as the 145 innings he wasn't that good for Washington. Then you tack on another year to the arm...... My biggest fear is he sucks but you give him 10 starts to verify that he sucks. If he doesn't get too much guaranteed and he isn't given a lot of leash, I am all behind signing him. I also would be worried that Counsell seemed very quick to pull the trigger on Gio, which is fine in September. But if he handles him that way to start the year, the bullpen is going to have that many more innings to pick up.
  5. The downside would be that at 33 he does even worse than last year, and they still give him a bunch of starts waiting to see if he will come around. For even more downside, they could be paying him however many million that it takes to sign him. And since you wanted downside, they could do all of that and lose out on a player that could help the team but they didn't have a roster spot for him. I'm fine with signing him, if it is on the cheap and incentive laden and they don't give him too many chances to see if he has it or not.
  6. 10/300=30per 13/330=~25.4per. That's 4.6mil a year less. I gave 4.5mil a modest 6.5% return if invested over 10 years. What is 45mil base at the 10year mark becomes $64,872,836. On that modest return he'd only need 10mil? over the next 3years signed to earn 330mil. But you know, he didn't go to College so maybe he has zero sense when it comes to investing. Pay a guy to do it for him. Has it been confirmed that the salary is basically the same year after year? Could be he negotiated front-loaded years. Doubtful, but possible. It seems to me, for these big free agents, the agent (and probably the union) is always shooting for the biggest number, regardless of deferrals or backloading. They just want to be able to advertise the big number to clientele (or save face with a client if he told Harper he would get X amount of $). And in some instances, I assume the agent can feel like they are protecting the player from himself, if he is a free spender - by pushing the contract out.
  7. Too bad the Brewers came in second for him. But, wonder how that would have changed last year. Probable Miley never gets a chance then if Mikolas is doing well?.....
  8. I have no idea what his SS defense is like. But, if he could play close to average SS, I would have wanted this over Moose. Provide insurance on everybody, but especially Arcia's bat if it goes cold again next year. Who knows what Gonzalez was asking before the Brewers signed Moose though. He probably dropped his demands a few million when we dropped out of the running for him. Music is starting to stop and only so many chairs remaining.
  9. It would be nice if we were winning games by four runs instead of two runs a few more times this year. It allows CC to feel more comfortable using Houser/Guerra/etc instead of all premium guys that night.
  10. People keep pushing this and it's simply disingenuous. Their offense bit them. It was not their lack of having a big time SP. It's stuck because it is easiest thing to say after a cursory glance. Yeah, we lost to the Dodgers because the bats went cold. Scored a total of 7 runs in 40 innings in the four losses.
  11. And all of those prospects are going to learn to be good professionals by watching Machado's hustle.
  12. I know not a top free agent - but very surprised that Gerado Parra had to sign a minor league deal. Would have figured he would be a nice fit as a 4th OF for someone.
  13. Even the veterans have risen to Clancy's clickbait on this one.
  14. Shaw probably has a little more range than Moose, but maybe not quite the throwing arm. Moose is much better moving forward to get those swinging bunts.
  15. Looks like its in the neigborhood of 125 million at this point. I think the Brewers will be a little more active trying to shop Anderson and Thames now to try and get back down to the $115M neighborhood (until the next move).
  16. If you give a mouse a cookie..... To be fair you need a salary cap. If you have a cap you need a salary floor to keep the Marlins spending money (to keep total MLB player pay to inflationary increase over prior year). You can't have a salary floor without revenue sharing, as some teams would not be able to afford what the floor would need to be (has to be somewhat close to the ceiling). You can't have revenue sharing because there is no way the Dodgers, Yankees etc let the league cut into their juicy local tv contract. The only thing I can think of is that there would have to be some catalyst that would shakeup enough teams to vote to make local tv contracts split evenly (think lawsuits on top of lawsuits). That said, they would probably have to put that type of transition out twenty years from whenever they get to it. I thought Selig had the right idea that the internet would be split evenly, but the product moving to the internet hasn't happened - it has stayed on FSN, etc.
  17. You know that he didn't actually walk out of the park once an opener was used for him. He didn't even TWEET that that is what he would do. It was a private txt from him to Bochy that Bochy made public. If you want to judge somebody as a pretentious entitled diva based on private txts not meant for the public...well... that's not a road I want to go down. I'd say that Bochy used poor judgment more than Bumgarner. I don't see what the difference public or private would have in this case, unless you are saying he was joking because it was to Bochy? Because if he wasn't joking, then the point remains. He is going to throw fits if he isn't treated in the way he feels he should be. Not someone I want on the team (not that I did before that tweet/text came out for full disclosure).
  18. I would feel confident in saying that Gamel, Perez, Thames and Spangenberg would all start in Cleveland's OF. Probably Tyrone Taylor as well. Yeah, but in their division they have time to see who actually produces in the OF and then trade for an outfielder (which is probably the easiest position after relievers to trade for). Plus they save 3.5 months of salary on whoever they trade for (which sounds like it is an issue for Cleveland - or I would hope to just send them Thames for salary relief to play OF ).
  19. Thanks ... sorry for my dense-ness. Sometimes it's hard to tell around here if people are being serious. For instance, there were a few posters ready to DFA Jeffress following his hiccups in the playoffs last year. Gotta see the forest through the trees sometimes Don't kick yourself. You weren't the only one wondering on that post.
  20. I don't think we are at the stage where we can assume playoffs and are looking at playoff matchups. So, if we can kill righties and righties are ~70?% of the starting pitching, I will take that. If Hiura rakes, he can come up in June and get all the lefty starts for Shaw and Moose (Shaw slides over) and then be the main PH on the bench. He could probably get a few starts for Aguilar if they give him some reps at 1B down in the minors. But I don't see Moose signing for $8M/1 YR. Even if it just because he would have to swallow he didn't take the one year $15M option a few months ago from us. If he doesn't get a decent deal and he and his agent misjudeged his value two years in a row.......
  21. Didn't you literally just say, "hard pass for me," because of his injuries? I'm getting old, but I'm not at the point where I am contradicting myself in threads on the same day. Usually I wait a couple of weeks.
  22. He was awake and ambulatory. Does he really need to be ambulatory to be up to something?
  23. I think this would help the small payroll teams, so I am for this... but.... I could see some owner trading away his whole draft to pick up 2-3 players for the current team. Or teams trading away everyone for draft picks. I'm not sure we want to go too far down that path without some type of restrictions. Maybe only trade one pick or every other year. Can only acquire at most two more players in any one draft, etc. Can only trade away the next years draft - no trading away picks two years from now. Etc. Just to see how it goes first. You guys might be too young to remember Ted Stepien, owner Cleveland Cavaliers early eighties. The NBA had to enact a rule that you couldn't trade consecutive 1st round picks because he was constantly trading his first round draft picks for crap, so those draft picks he traded away were very good.
  24. Guerra sort of. And "openers"? Guerra and Houser, who is out of options, profile as that eighth "emergency starter"/long reliever. Then you have Brown and Supak at AAA, and Wilkerson as your 12th emergency-emergency starter. Hopefully what this means is that Nelson is ready to go, and thus no room at the inn. Perhaps they were trying to trade Anderson but didn't find the right value in return; and if guys like Miley are getting 1/$4.5M without having to give up any players in return, then I don't blame teams for not wanting to offer much value for Anderson. Anderson has a good changeup, and was actually better against LHB last year (.677 OPS-A) than RHB (.785 OPS-A). Yeah, if Miley only gets a 1yr/$4.5M deal, that means the Chase Anderson contract should only have a little surplus trade value (but probably closer to no surplus after the Brewers held off of playoff roster). So you get a B prospect in A ball to clear his contract.
  25. I would like to see Perez play catcher sometime.
