  1. More neutral (still in PCL though I think, so hitters league). But a subpar stadium in pretty much every way is my understanding. San Antonio city adminstration not really wanting to kick in money for new stadium, like the CS owners were hoping for. So overall, at least a move in the right direction.
  2. With the days off every two games, I am only keeping 11 guys in the pen. Being able to go with less pitchers, allows to keep bats on bench just to pinch hit. So you are not necessarily picking the full roster based on how heavy they are for starters. You want to be able to pinch hit against their tough guys in the pen. (Jansen and Strop actually neutral/reverse splits) 4SP: Chacin, Miley, Anderson, Gio 7Pen: Jeffress, Hader, Burnes, Soria, Cendeno, Knebel, Woodruff/Davies 2: Kratz, Pina 5: Moose, Arcia, Schoop, Shaw, Aguilar 4OF: Yelich, Cain, Braun, Granderson 3Bench: Thames, Broxton, Santana
  3. Looks like Yamamoto was injured to start the year, but pitched great in 13 starts in June - August. Is up to AA at age 22.
  4. Don't know if better to start new thread or not, but thinking next year already - Would Age 31-33 C.Anderson 3yrs/$24M (Mets need a starter back?), Hiura, Ray, Supak and Ashby be enough for two seasons of age 31-32 DeGrom at arby cost (guessing $24M?) plus hopefully a qualifying offer draft pick at the end? Rotation: DeGrom, Chacin, Burnes. Davies as probable. Nelson, Woodruff, F.Peralta and Guerra as possibles. Wilkerson, Derby, Houser, Brown as backups.
  5. I assume they keep Schoop for the one year, if just to save face on the trade. They have the built in excuse that Hiura needs another year. The net cost of Soria is $9M ($10M vs $1M buyout), I don't think we have seen enough to retain at that price. The Brewers like Moustakas. That is evident. So I think they roll the dice to save the $1M buyout. And are just fine if he decides to stay for $15M. But, I assume Moustakas looks for long term deal. I do think you go into the offseason with the plan to trade Thames, but I think we are lacking a LH stick if Moose and Thames are gone.
  6. Yes. He planted his foot as close as he could, and then alligator arms the catch. What is he afraid of?
  7. Basically, the only possibility would be to cut Wilkerson to free up a 40 man spot (I don't see them cutting someone on the active roster of 36). It's possible they don't plan to retain him later, but doubt they want to pull that trigger now (what if a starter gets an injury and is out next season).
  8. This is my take also. Villar was healthy and Counsell wasn't playing him.
  9. Yes, much better. But didn't a couple of guys hit rockets, but just at OFs last game? So fingers and toes crossed.
  10. Keeping it general. I think because of the constant influx of aging players (or DHs playing in the NL) moving from other positions to 1B, in addition to the natural 1B. Teams are usually set at that position. You have to be heads and shoulders above the pack AND have an affordable contract / years of control to have excess value.
  11. I kind of assume the Brewers may trade away Chacin (while value is high) or Anderson (save some $ for Schoop/Soria/Moose/Miley/FA), and not retain Miley. If so, I would protect Derby as a backup, backup plan for a starter spot next year.
  12. I know the union frowns on incentive laden deals, and the usual incentives like # of starts or # of innings pitched don't work when you are more worried about the quality of the pitching versus the injury-free status of the pitcher. Has anybody ever seen contract incentives that weren't starts, innings, all-star team, cy young voting for a pitcher? I know it is simplistic and biased, but for someone like Miley, if you could just have a contract 2/$15M and if you make 22+ starts and your ERA is below 4.0, we will pay you another $2.5M for that year.
  13. I don't think we could even get a bag of used balls for Albers, even with his cheap contract. Jennings isn't going to have any positive value over what he will get in arby. Thompson basically made it through NL waivers when they picked him. Guerra won't get enough to move him. Wilkerson will get you a lottery tix. Broxton may intrigue someone to give a real prospect of sorts, especially if they don't have a decent OF right now.
  14. Nobody is going to give us anything for Guerra after the way he has pitched since August 3. He is a cheap insurance policy.
  15. The thing is you need to warm him up before it gets to that scenario (and you don't know that the scenario is working out that way). So the pitcher gets two guys out, but two get on right away - Hader hasn't even started to warm up. So unless they throw over to first 10 times and have a couple of mound visits, it doesn't matter.
  16. I would think if they were that concerned about getting them back asap, they just would have sent them to another minor league team that had no chance at the playoffs. I don't think they were just throwing guys out to lose, they just don't have as many guys down there anymore in the first place (Brooks traded, and Woodruff, Davies planned to be up). And everyone they put out there seemed to get shelled. Wilkerson, Derby, Houser and Peralta all pitched multiple innings over the last four days of season.
  17. Chacin is the only guy you can trade and probably get fair value for. I think they would sell Anderson if they got anything close to fair value (get rid of Anderson, can keep Soria/Schoop). I don't see Stearns keeping everyone, so one of Chacin or Anderson will be traded. We would be selling on the low for Davies, Nelson, Guerra, Woodruff - so we are not getting rid of these guys. I don't see paying Miley/Gonzalez what they could get as a free agent, but if for some reason they are lowballed by league.... 1. Anderson/Chacin (one traded away) 2. Burnes 3. Davies 4. Nelson 5. Woodruff 6. Guerra/Peralta Wilkerson/Houser/Derby as backups. With Z.Brown and/or Supak maybe ready midseason?
  18. Because when he went thru waivers we still had hope one of Guerra and Peralta would stay serviceable? Did the Nats eat any salary? They wouldn't have had to if claimed on Waivers.
  19. They could also place Dubon on the MLB roster, then immediately on the 60-day DL to free up a spot. I know service time and all, but those spots are starting to get hard to come by. I agree that Orf is probably on very, very thin ice. Should have been done already = Add QTC - DFA Orf. They should have had QTC on the shuttle with Houser, etc by now. See if he can become the loogy that they want Jennings to be. I think they would DFA Saladino/Lyles/Thompson/Hernandez before they DL Dubon.
  20. Woodruff picked a bad time to not look that great down in CS. So Davies here we come - can't be any worse than Guerra and whatever is ailing for him.
  21. The only reason to play Kratz instead of Pina is that they feel Pina has to catch Peralta who is tomorrows pitcher. Kratz has probably hit better than expected, but his defense isn't that great. Pina should be getting at least 60% of the starts.
  22. Are we really putting Davies in the rotation because he shutout a bad single A team and did pretty good against a bad hitting AA team (and was terrible before those two outings). Not only can I imagine them not putting him in the MLB rotation, I would wish that doesn't happen. Get him up in September, and then give him some low leverage spots to earn more innings and more important spots. I am fine with him having a clean slate and a good position to be a starter next year, but this year it is just too late to give away games seeing what he has.
