  1. Isn't Peralta the definition of who not to put in the bullpen? Isn't his first inning usually his worst as a starter? Are we thinking that he knows he is only going 2 innings he will ramp it up more right off the bat? Seems risky.
  2. I didn't mind the late game, as we had an hour plus delay at our high school football game for lightning. Got home and only had to watch a few painful innings before the 15th.
  3. Look back one page. viewtopic.php?f=63&t=37453&start=60#p1147930
  4. As long as he pitches good against the Cubs that works for me. Can they delay the trade so he pitches for the Reds at 1:20 and then comes over to the Brewers?
  5. I believe they have that Machado fellow .... That would be hilarious. I have an annual bet with a Dodgers fan. That would be salt in the wound.
  6. Orf, Thompson, Hernandez could be DFAd. Even Lyles could be DFAd as we would be moving a starter into the pen.
  7. I hope so. He isn't having a great year. Yes, he probably has a higher ceiling than anything we have just due to his stuff, but not sure he is much of an improvement over what we currently have. Because we are a couple minor injuries away from Aaron Wilkerson making meaningful playoff race starts. Yeah, but you are also talking about someone who is going to make a stink if he isn't starting. So we better have a clear plan going forward. Seems to me chemistry is an asset for this team. He ain't no Doc Medich. I sure hope they don't give away Derby for him, that is too much. The Reds lost all leverage. It better be someone much further down the food chain and cash.
  8. I highly doubt that after getting worked over by A and AAA batters throughout his seemingly-forever rehab start and stops, and basically close to his last rehab appearance, he was working on his stuff. I would be willing to bet he was throwing max effort.
  9. So would I....but is that really likely. Peralta didn't implode his last start so he won't get an opportunity there. .....Davies was terrific last year, .....There is only one way to find out. Very much disagree. He has one good pitching appearance in AA out of all the bad games he has pitched and he deserves a MLB starting rotation spot? We are not the Reds. We don't have the luxury of losing a game or two just to see if a pitcher is back. Option Davies to stay in Biloxi, if you can't call it rehab anymore and get two more starts. If he does well and one of our starters is lagging, switch them out in the rotation. Otherwise Davies to bullpen when rosters expand.
  10. Good to see the stats bear out what my eyes were seeing. Less movement on the fastball. Throw it 100 and straight and they will tee off, and Knebel isn't hitting 100.
  11. One of the few instances where a no-trade clause would be in the Brewers favor.
  12. I assume Counsell hired the person(s) that doing the replay advising for him..... So at this point in the season, it is on him.
  13. The Nationals were the ones who refused a trade and pulled Harper back. The Nationals could have dumped Harper (and his full salary on the Dodgers) if they so pleased. Obviously with Harper there was no way they were going to just let Harper go for nothing. With Murphy...maybe they would, maybe they wouldn't have. They essentially did. Do we know how much money the Cubs were sending the Nationals in the deal? Is there a league rule on how much cash can go in a trade (that isn't part of paying for a players contract)?
  14. Probably could have got something decent for Gio Gonzalez at the deadline, but 3 out of 4 of his August starts have been bad. 4 out of his last 6 starts have been bad going back to the Brewers game on 7/23.
  15. Something is different about Knebel's fastball. His fastball speed is still way up there, but it must be straighter or less deception of some sort, because it is getting teed off on - I can't believe it just hitters sitting on FB because he can't get the curveball over for a strike.
  16. He is substantially worse than Thames, actually. Substantially. Despite his time in the OF, Thames has basically been slightly below average in total this year defensively. Davis has played 11 games in the OF and tallied -1.3 WAR out there. In 11 games. If there is some stat that says Thames is a better outfielder than Davis, it is really short on data or flawed. I admit I have old-timers disease, but I don't remember Davis staggering under flyballs and such that I see when Thames is out there. Davis is also faster in the OF once he knows where he wants to go. Just doesn't have the arm, but that also means he would be looking for the proper cutoff.
  17. Probably because everyone knows the Nats are going to ask for more than most teams would be willing to pay. Not really the case regarding cost. If the Brewers didn't want him going to the Cubs they should have put a claim on him, offer nothing and risk the Nationals just giving him to us for the cost of his remaining contract. I assume unwritten rules would be broken though.
  18. Maybe they know what sucks and rehab won't help? Only half blue. Could be a thing where they pitch Peralta on Wednesday and send him down after the game and bring Albers up.... Peralta gets 10 days off, and Albers is the "game is out of hand" pitcher to eat inning(s). For that matter if Guerra doesn't look better tonight, maybe they DL him again for 10 days and same scenario with Albers.
  19. They have played Thames in both corners, Schoop at SS, Aguilar at 3rd, and Shaw at 2nd. They would find a way to work him in somewhere to get his bat in the lineup. Again, Davis cannot play anywhere but LF. Thames can play 1st, Schoop 2nd, Aguilar 1B, and Shaw 3rd. Yeah so. We make it work with Thames in the outfield, and Davis is not worse then Thames out there. If we had Davis and Braun was playing, Braun would have to go back to RF (or have never left) - that is not the end of the world. The one thing is that Davis actually has reverse splits and where we are lacking this year is winning against lefties, so he wouldn't provide the help you would think in that regard.
  20. I Question how well he frames pitches, but he's batted adequately for the second catcher.
  21. That last part was supposed to be in blue? I don't know why we would want to turn anyone into JM Gold. That didn't work out to well.
  22. So if they send him down August 27, can he come back up right away 9/1? Or do they still have some sort of 10 day wait or have to wait until AAA season is over (playoffs?)?
  23. I think the easy way out on the bullpen having a bad stretch is to say it is workload. When you look game to game, I do not see anyone in the pen pitching too much. If anyone was it would Jeffress and Jennings. Jeffress isn't an issue as we know. And Jennings is pitching a little stronger lately than in the middle of the season. It would be nice if they kept him away from righties a little bit more, but sometimes he pitches in blowouts and it doesn't matter. Williams isn't probably used to this season, but you hope a 27 yo would make it, regardless he just got a break anyways.
  24. I prefer to have JJ available to pitch high leverage situations. I mean. Knebel had the 7, 8, and 9 guys. If we can't trust him to get those guys out...then maybe he shouldn't be trusted anytime with a lead. I had hoped he would keep JJ in, but I thought going with Knebel there was okay. Gotta assume hes not going to walk all 3 of those guys...right? Or maybe not. High leverage situations like... the last inning of the game? The most important one when you have a lead? Actually if I have a lead of two runs and the 4-5-6 are due up in the 8th, I want my best reliever in the game that inning. That is the high leverage inning to me. You expect him to get them out, leaving the bottom of the order to another "lesser" reliever. The only thing that is the problem is that Knebel couldn't get four pretty terrible hitters out. So now you have Barnes and Knebel that can't be trusted in any type of close game and Jennings only with lefties. So now Lyles has to be available for close games whether he is able or not. Can't have three relievers not trusted to be in a close game, with the workload we have and Hader's restrictions.
  25. If his curveball isn't good, he isn't an average closer.
