  1. The Nats are back in the race so I don't think he'll be getting dealt. I agree that I don't think the Nats deal anyone, but since the deadline the have dropped .5 game. They haven't made up any ground in their division. Yeah, if they are within any type of striking range they would probably just keep him. But if they are out of it, he could be an end of August trade. But he would still have to clear the teams below us in records. So a team could want him or claim him just to block us or their division rival.
  2. Wouldn't that make him ineligible for the postseason? If the plan was to do that why not just leave him on the DL a little longer so he would be eligible for the postseason? I really don't see a playoff roster spot as that realistic on August 8th. First of all, I don't see how he will be able to show enough to jump up into one of our top 4 starters, so he isn't on the roster to start games. So he will have to show that he can be comfortable coming out of the pen, plus better than the established pen guys to actually take a spot from them. With a 7 man pen in the playoffs, you are going go with: Hader, Jeffress, Soria, Knebel, Jennings, Burnes, "Up for Grabs" (starter?)
  3. Coachspeak for - we have discussed it, but don't want to go over particulars with the press at this time.
  4. Am I the only one hoping Davies doesn't start for us at all? Or is everybody resigned to the fact that the Brewers will start him when he says he's healthy? One game could be the difference for playoffs and you trust Davies to start? Use Woodruff if we need a starter. Davies has a 1.91 WHIP in 7.1 innings in two rehab outings for CS and before that he was roughed up in single A outings in June. I hope he is DL'd or optioned until September. Then he can come up and pitch bullpen innings in games that aren't high leverage to prove he is back.
  5. I wouldn't go with a six man rotation until September. We need that 8th guy in the pen. Even if it is Houser just to be available to clean up 2-3 innings in games up/down 4+ runs.
  6. Yeah, DL Albers until September. He can pitch an inning or two of mopup. If he comes back next March/April pitching well - fine. If not DFA him then. He is costing the Brewers $2.5M next year either way, and there is no way he reaches his incentives, so might as well see if he is decent next spring.
  7. When I saw that jump, and Guerra doesn't seem too fast to plate, I thought no chance to throw him out.
  8. We have played 7 more games than the Braves to date. They are wildcard #2 currently.
  9. 1. Hiura 2. Burnes 3. Ray 4. Turang 5. Dubon 6. Erceg 7. Lutz 8. Zack Brown Band 9. Supak 10. Nottingham 11. Gray 12. Stokes 13. QTC 14. Diplan 15. Gatewood 16. Ashby 17. Henry 18. Kirby 19. Houser 20. Grisham 21. Bello 22. W. Wilson 23. Lemons 24. C. Rodriguez 25. McClanahan 26. N. Ramirez (CS effect)
  10. I'm curious why a Roegner that is 25 in A+ ball is that much higher than Harber that is age 24 in A+ ball? ERA same. Whip Roegner better by a bit. K/9 Harber better by a bit. Ave against better by Harber. I was expecting you to have Harber at #10 at least in your poll.
  11. At least we cleared the 8th hitter, so we can start the inning with our best hitters
  12. I assume somewhere someone has together a home plate umpire ERA. Someone from Vegas at least.
  13. I assume the catcher didn't remember how many strikes were on the guy and was trying to throw out the guy "stealing"?....
  14. Wouldn't surprise me if there are a couple lists of prospects the Rays will be able to choose from based on how soon Ramos actually returns to game action. May even end up cash. Seems like something I hope the Brewers looked into. One downside scenario is Ramos is still out a long time and you pay his salary and send over some cash. Other downside is he is not 100% but comes back to play and ends up costing the best player on the PTBNL list. https://www.nbcsports.com/philadelphia/phillies/mlb-trade-deadline-deal-really-work-phillies-need-wilson-ramos-get-healthy-quickly Ramos’ health situation was “factored into the components of the deal,” according to Klentak. In other words, the Phils didn’t give up much for him. They will send a player to be named later or cash to Tampa Bay to complete the deal. Ramos, who will be a free agent at season’s end, is owed about $2.8 million for the remainder of the season and the Phils will have no trouble swallowing that.
  15. They got rid of Kintzler too. Must have some pretty good studs in the minors they were bringing up? Edit: I guess this guy was showing up the manager when he had to pitcher in the 24 run ball game. https://www.federalbaseball.com/2018/8/1/17638992/washington-nationals-dfa-shawn-kelley-you-are-either-in-or-you-are-in-the-way-mike-rizzo
  16. With the season he's having this year I highly doubt he will get a significant raise, if any raise at all. Arby also looks at career to date also, right? Significant is subjective, my guess would be a significant raise. He is one year deeper in Arby's and that alone will pay him more. He can rightfully say he was playing injured, to help the team out and he shouldn't get dinged for early this year (assuming his results get better as year goes on).
  17. Reds come out of that deal with the Mets smelling pretty sweet after robbing us.
  18. 1:28pm: Fancred’s Jon Heyman tweets that teams are “getting serious” with their offers on Gausman. He lists the Rockies, Braves and Brewers as teams in the mix. Crasnick tweets, meanwhile, that the Pirates are “out” on Gausman. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/
  19. Actually it looks like Mikolas has three arby years after the two year contract. Obviously the arby will be building off from his $8M 2019 contract, but you do have 4+ years of control. Which makes it less likely they deal him I assume.
  20. I'd rather pay the full contract that remains and keep the prospect cost down.
  21. If they trade anyone, they may as well have a fire sale of rentals. There is no point to hold out for a premium on Gonzalez if they just traded Harper or Herrera or whoever.
  22. What are the rules for trading injured minor league players? Any restrictions at all? Dubon and Gatewood are both ACLs.
  23. I would tend to be cautious on Davies as well, just because he's had so many setbacks with this injury and he generally wasn't sharp pre-injury. Ditto Grande on this.
  24. Don't you guys believe that DJ AND the NL AND not the AL East AND a contender would do wonders for Archer? As I've stated before his numbers have gotten better this year from his first month or so... but mentally, don't you think it would be a different animal if he came here? Or is that more like chasing a ghost? He would also be going from an extreme pitchers park to a hitters park.
  25. Well I was really wondering why everyone thinks Shaw will be traded. But when I look at the Twinkies situation, I could actually see them wanting Shaw (I don't know much about Sano). So Gibson and Dozier for Shaw and Ortiz? They get three controllable years of Shaw. That last sentence is why it makes no sense to me for them to trade away Shaw. There is no replacement at 3B for 2019 on the roster, unless the mutual option for Moose is picked up which is highly unlikely (if he performs well, he will decline; if he doesn't, the Brewers will buy him out). If the Brewers really like Gibson, they will figure out 3B in the offseason. Machado Actually I thought there were 2+ years of Gibson left. There is only 1+ years left. Would revise offer down.
