  1. For those of us on Gameday only, what the heck happened? Votto was complaining about a strike being called (it was). And after a while Kratz told him to get back in the box or to the quit ripping on Guerra pitch. So they started jawing back and forth with each other and everybody in the world came out to stand around in a circle
  2. Yes Jennings is making it very easy to figure out who goes when Davies and Miley come back
  3. There, in the spirit of the optimism thread, this quote has been adjusted accordingly. That's better, but I don't think we want to get too cocky and jinx ourselves by calling other teams bad. Here is our opportunity to play some win-challenged teams in the near future.
  4. So we did get something for the 5th overall pick? (Jason)
  5. And that is what we need, another defensive OF on the roster. Probably Phillips if Shaw goes out, as we'll have more righties in the starting lineup.
  6. I think there were two people that predicted 25 games, so they still have a shot.
  7. Is it terrible that I wished Davies and Miley had very, very long rehab stints. The rotation is doing fine with whoever they have been using. I fear Davies and Miley will come up sucking and take awhile to get back to decent.
  8. I think that Sogard will be sent down when Miller is deemed ready, and Arcia will be sent down when Saladino is healthy. Santana should definitely be optioned ASAP though. Doesn't contribute to the major league club at all, and that's not going to change with him on the bench. Ditto on above. Santana, no reason to wait. Get him going now, so that he is back on track for later in the year. I like the idea of a Arcia/Saladino available for defensive subbing and double-switch for when Miller/Perez are playing SS.
  9. I think the thought process is, how much worse can he be than how Pina is playing anyways? On offense, I would assume .219 / .636 (Pina's stats for year) would be in line with the 2016-2017 Nottingham. How much of this years stats is CS and small sample size, versus having turned the corner on his offense?..... It is hard to say how much of a dropoff you would get defensively, and not something I dismiss readily. So if Kratz folds, and Nottingham comes up and shows competent defense, I don't know why he shouldn't get 40% of the games and Pina gets 60%.
  10. They were mentioning on radio last night how Pittsburgh doesn't do the "last game of the series is a day game" scheduling. I just hope other teams pass on that same favor to them.
  11. Burn them out? If anything I will say they aren't sharp because they havent been pitching enough.
  12. I agree with this being closer to the ask by the Marlins (probably include Nottingham in any version). The Aguilar, Ortiz, Nottingham scenario would not even be close. However, I disagree with the roster having too many holes to go all in with. We are at 44% of the season being complete, I think it is safe to say that the offense, is holding us back. If you replace an OPS of .615 with .892, and put that batting 5th, that is going to be quite the improvement. Plus, you know if we pull off this trade, we are going to get at least someone like Jody Mercer to replace Arcia for this year. Then we have an offense that has no black holes 1-8. I'm not saying to do this trade as stated, as I would like to keep Hiura out of the trade. But if we could go Burnes, Erceg, Ray, Nottingham I would do this trade.
  13. Not saying the Brewers shouldn't look to better the bullpen, but it is basically diminishing returns as whoever you acquire becomes #4 bullpen guy. As for Swarzak, yeah, the Brewers would not want that 2019 contract. Plus, I wouldn't want the Mets to pay some of it and then expect a better prospect either. Just looked up Ryan Cordell and he does not have much luck. Broken clavicle after playing a little bit in April.
  14. Machado is extremely likely to get an opt-out. He's a 25 year old star player at a premium position hitting free agency. Just because you don't want to give him that option doesn't mean there won't be 10 other GMs that will if they want to get him. If you wanted to get him without an opt out you'd basically have to blow everyone else away in terms of average annual and total value to the point where it would never really make sense for him to opt out. I do agree the Brewers aren't signing Machado and any trade for him would be a pure rental with nothing to show for it beyond what they get from him this year. I don't see the opt out clause as all that bad from the team standpoint. The player has obviously played well and is healthy if they are willing to opt out. So you have received more production than you have paid in salary. And the later years are the more expensive years on the contract that he is opting out of. So you may get the best of all worlds the good play just before the production goes down to age/injury. The thing is you can't plan as readily, so you would hope for as soon an opt out date as possible, so you can sign a replacement. Question - on the opt out scenario, does the team get a draft pick?
  15. I think the frustrating thing is that even ARam in his last season was much better on the slow roller than Shaw is. It is just the way it is going to be, I assume they are playing him where the hitter stats say he should, but within a range that Shaw feels comfortable with.
  16. Is it just me, I hope the Wade Miley return takes as long as possible
  17. I don't think their back up SS cares about his ERA, lol Whooshhh
  18. Don't need to save pen, assuming Lopez and Logan can go three innings without giving up 9 runs.
  19. I think it must just be the Phillies is trying to get us to 12 runs again
  20. Would be even higher if the Cardinals didn't cry to the league office to get a double taken away.
  21. Assume you are talking about an error being recorded. That would be for the advancing to second base on the throw.
  22. Here is where I am. He is fine, but not enough of an upgrade to spend assets on. Plus, his stats won't look so good if he can't pitch against the Brewers.
