  1. I do not know how Realmuto stacks up defensively, so I assume ignorance on that. I don't like the trade because it is at catcher. Best case we are talking about starting 125 games out of season. Add in the fact that catchers get more beat up more than any other position, I would hate to sink too many assets and then a ball hits him wrong and he is out six weeks. That is why I didn't mind the Yelich trade, he is going to start (or should start) 155 games. That is 25% more games from Realmuto to Yelich. We will be shoehorning starts at 1B soon enough again when Braun and Thames are back, so I wouldn't count on that at all. But, if he batted lefty or if we were able to replace Burnes with a couple of different pieces I may not be able to stop myself from offering that deal. Edit: I also want to state that I don't want to diminish Pina's role in the performance that our pitchers have put up the last two years. Realmuto could come in and hit 100 more points OPS, but Pina may save a .25+ of a run a game more with his handling of the pitchers, framing, blocking and his arm. Once again, don't know enough about Realmuto.
  2. I can live with an offensive black hole at backup catcher if they are elite defensively. I don't see that with Bandy. I suspect he has about 3 more starts this month to show them something.
  3. I don't follow the AL much, so I don't know how good they are. But, I think we have enough mid-level starting rotation options. I think you target a true #1 or improve 2B/C. It doesn't sound like the Rangers pitchers are at that level of pitcher.
  4. Going to be harder to find a 2B if the Mariners actually trade for one. Article on potential 2B moves for them: https://www.mlb.com/news/robinson-cano-replacements-for-mariners/c-277168238
  5. I feel you, but with the aggressive nature of their bullpen use as well as guys like Davies, Anderson, and Braun on the DL it is nice to have a day off as often as possible. Agreed. And we still have one more game played than Pittsburgh, 3 more than Cardinals, and 4 more than Cubs.
  6. But will they? Aren't those guys the depth Stearns always talks about? I know it is only 12 at bats ... but Saladino makes Franklin a DFA no brainer when the time comes and Sogard will no longer see the MLB roster. Saladino is a better defender at the same positions and his WAR in 12 at bats is already almost equal to Arcia's. Fully expecting his bat to re-center to the norm ... but he is a better option as a 25th man and on the 40 man than both those two. We have some flexibility if we need it. How far along is Franklin at the catcher position? Any thoughts if he is anywhere near close to average defensively? That would really make the team think a couple of times before cutting ties with him.
  7. Hopefully, it will when Anderson/Davies come back. Anderson Davies Chacin Woodruff Peralta Looks perfectly fine to me. But it is wishful thinking I'm sure. Hopefully we can keep Suter around to PH... OPS 1.021 Should be DH against Minny the other games, right?
  8. I think paying arby for ages 29,30,31 will be just right. I wouldn't pay now for age 32, nonetheless age 33 free agent year(s). I would hope and assume, that Stearns would have a min.wage replacement ready by the time we lose control of Shaw. I'm not convinced it will be Erceg, but if it is, his timeline would be such that we could trade Shaw for some prospects before we lose control.
  9. We have their starter at 51 pitches through 2 innings. Hopefully the Diamondbacks bullpen is also generous today.
  10. He gave himself that nickname, right? Oh, that makes the nickname even worse if it's true. I went and checked it was a Boston sportswriter that originated it, but Shaw seems to like it and went with it also.
  11. It felt like the choice was between Hughes and Jeffress. I think Drake was always meant to be the guy who temporarily held a 40-man spot until another need had to be filled. Yeah, Drake was the loogy. I assume if Logan was healthy Drake may not have made opening day?... I did like Hughes, but I don't think Counsell trusted him. I don't remember him putting in Hughes in high leverage situations when he had other options.
  12. I thought I saw him on the bench in Colorado. Me too.
  13. The best chance the Brewers would have pulled the trigger on starting pitching was before the season started as we had an opening early before Nelson came back and the young pitchers got more experience. Now, you have: Guerra seems to have a hold of a spot. Peralta/Woodruff/Suter as rotation starters until Anderson and Davies are healthy Burnes, Derby, and Asher appear to be ready when needed. Nelson and Miley recovering. I'm sure 1-2 guys not named would be ready by September 1 if needed (Brown, Jankins, Houser, Ortiz, Wilkerson, etc).
  14. Well, that play he just made looked a little shakey to me. Ball juggled around in his glove a litle bit. He is an adventure out there, no doubt.. But he isn't "jogging" to balls as much. He always seemed too tentative about his abilities to pickup grounders.
  15. Why, do you expect him to be a star? Service time really only matters for guys who play to an All Star level or strongly outperform their positon's value. I've never seen anyone have that kind of crystal ball out on Dubon. We're talking about Mauricio Dubon here, not Kris Bryant. The chances of service time mattering for him are slim and none. Maybe you have extra millions of dollars laying around in your sock drawer, but service time matters to the Brewers. Basically, you are paying a player a year sooner than you would have had to. So year 3 of playing is first year of arby, instead of min. wage. Each year of arby is more pay. And you lose the player control a year earlier than you would have had to. Since you think Dubon is not anything special, you might still want to take a look at what Perez ($1.975) and Villar ($2.55) are receiving their first year out of min. wage. Quite a jump from high $500Ks that players make the last year the team can keep them at min. wage.
  16. I think there are just so many moving parts right now that Stearns probably doesn't want to put Orf on the 40 man roster, and then something else happens. As it is, Dubon is going to take up a spot on the 40 man, as they won't put him on the 60 day DL list. Keep hitting Orf, and by the end of the month the picture will have cleared up.
  17. Same place he has been at plate. Missing. Get the milk carton find him going.
  18. I think Counsell likes having the extra lefty bat around (even if that bat isn't hitting), so that is going to make it harder for Orf to find a spot. Unless Orf can match defense with Perez at 3B, I don't see him supplanting him on the roster either.
  19. That is why the Braun was pulled early. Trade imminent.
  20. Maybe shed some light - viewtopic.php?f=63&t=36138&p=1103338#p1103338
  21. If Hader isn't going to pitch, I like bringing in Jeffress during meat of order
  22. If shader isn't going to pitch, I like bringing in Jeffrey's during meat of order
