  1. I'm thinking the Brewers need to identify which one they want to go with for one more year, as I think they will get a bit more $ than you listed. Prognosis of Stetter? Braddock back. McClendon. De Le Cruz. Defilice/Dillard.
  2. I think whatever team signs him he will be out 4-6 weeks each year for the first couple of seasons and 6-8 weeks a year after that. So unless Reyes comes so cheap you can make sure you can afford a good backup it isn't worth it to me.
  3. Nope, keep Hairston playing and at 3rd. He's been the Brewers 2nd best hitter this series. Plus Hairston is a defensive upgrade at 3rd versus a dropoff from Morgan.
  4. Sites don't pick up Braun's signing bonus on the 2011 payroll because he isn't being paid that $10 mil in 2011. Would you be willing to share your spreadsheet since its so different from those documented online? You're right. I went back and Braun's signing bonus is payable 2012-2015 in four chunks. So that reduces this year by $10M. After that change, I don't think I am overly different from what bf has, to make a list of all the names and dollars. I maybe try to guess what incentives and bonuses will basically be earned, so I would have a Kotsay at $1M versus $800K for bfnet. Nothing major. http://www.brewerfan.net/ViewTeamSalary.do?teamId=1
  5. Like a jumpshot? Ouch. Sorry had to do it.
  6. I think the Brewers did it as: part grievance insurance (not saying KRod would win), part as injury insurance for Axford and KRod would actually get the number of games finished in, and part to make KRod happy via money. But it would be nice if the unwritten part of that deal was the Brewers would offer arby and he wouldn't accept.
  7. So you are saying that the year-round sales from Kohls, Shopkos, etc is pooled. I know the Brewers make a hefty profit on the stadium stores, but that must be chump change considered to the national licensing. So I assume the Brewers won't be pulling in millions over what they budgeted as merchandising revenues. Likewise, they also don't see a drop in merchandising revenue when the wins (and clothing sales) are down.
  8. Are we sure each team retains its own licensing money for its merchandise, or does all of MLB pool the revenue and then split it back to the teams? Because if it is pooled then it really wouldn't be a windfall for the Brewers.
  9. I don't think that is close. I have $94M on the 25 man roster. The biggest difference may be that some sites don't pick up Braun's $10M signing bonus. Add: injury and September callups ($1M), Parra/Stetter injury, buyouts ($4M Suppan, Davis, Zaun, Hoffman, Riske). So I see $100M
  10. I will not be surprised at all if Betancourt's option is picked up for 2012.I would hope that Melvin would negotiate a smaller contract than $6M (ignoring the $2M the Royals sent over for the buyout). Just on principle I don't want any part of a full-priced Yuni - I would rather get minimum wage production and cost from some teams AAAA shortstop. But, if Yuni went less and they agreed to it early, then at least Melvin can move shortstop down his list of offseason priorities.
  11. The reason being Roenicke didn't want him to be. I know people will claim Melvin is the GM and he makes the personnel moves but I have no doubt that Roenicke had a lot of influence. I agree that Melvin would have brought up Gamel/Green if he thought they would play. Since they wouldn't, why bring up? Either that or Jason Kendall gave McGehee his incriminating pictures of Melvin.
  12. I guess I was thinking that the Brewers will be looking and I assume other teams will be (Reds, right?) and there doesn't seem to be much after Reyes in the talent pool, hence driving up the price. Plus I assume the Astros will be trying to keep him as they didn't trade him away. But if he comes in relatively cheap, I won't complain. Basically anything better (for similar costs) or equal (less costs) to Yuni (cost of $4M, 1 year) is an improvement.
  13. I'm hoping that McGehee freaks out. Maybe being in a state of freaked out he may be able to hit the ball.
  14. I'm assuming he would get more than the $4M he made this year. At age 33 he may be looking for his last hurrah and so probably 3 years min.
  15. Definitely? Really? How can you know he won't be able to sign another contract after next year. Maybe he knows he wants to hang it up after another season. Plus how much money do you need to be happy? I agree that this sure seems to point to Pujols leaving. At least we had Berkman in the outfield to look forward to this year. Here's for hoping Pujols stays with the Cards and Berkman has a rundown battery in his wheelchair in RF.http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/tongue.gif
  16. Wow that hazing must be pretty brutal.
  17. Maybe I misunderstand arby, but he made $11.5M this year and will only make more next year as he hasn't imploded or anything like that. That is looking like what he will get on the open market for two years. So take the one year arby and then go free agency the following year. Is any team going to be crazy enough to go 3 years/$30M or something? Wouldn't arby be a new contract? I don't know why not, so Bores would get his cut of that money - for those that say Bores will make him go free agency.
  18. My fear with arbitration is that the closer/late inning relief market is so full this off-season that it might be financially worth it to accept arbitration if offered and test the waters next off-season when the closer market is much lighter. I would bet he doesn't accept arby either ... but it wouldn't surprise me if he did.I can see why the Brewers wouldn't risk arby, if that is the way they go. If all KRod cares about is money, he will be better off taking the arby and then going free agency in 2013. Hopefully the closing role is more important. Here is what Jayson Stark had in his column: • And then there's a guy who's no longer the Mets' problem: Francisco Rodriguez. When he vented to cbssports.com this week about his setup role in Milwaukee, he may have thought he was just letting the world know he wants to sign this winter as somebody's closer. But all he really told other teams is that wherever he goes, it will be about him, period. "He's just telling you what he's all about and what's really important to him," grumbled one NL exec. "All he had to do was say, 'When I talk to teams in the offseason, I want to close.' How hard is that? But it didn't come out that way." The same exec said he looks at this incarnation of K-Rod as "probably just a 5 or 6 million-[a-year] guy. He might give you 30 saves, but he also might give you 10 blown saves. He's just not the same guy. When you look at this stuff, he's only throwing 90-91 [mph] now. So it's not like people will be ramming down his door."
  19. I would rather they be back to back (and Weeks getting nothing to hit) rather than putting either of them higher than 6.
  20. Does this link seem right? The Rays are 3 game behind the WC and they only have a 4% chance to get the playoffs (13 games to go)? It seems to me that the percentage would be a little higher, even accounting for the Rays playing the Yankees a bunch still and the fact that the Angels could go crazy (and the Rangers remain in the division lead) and compete for the WC themselves.
  21. No. I don't complain about the CC trade, nor will I complain about the Fielder non-trade. The after-the-fact that you got swept is irrelevant to me. A playoff shot is a playoff shot and once you are in, who knows. Those only come around every so often, so you better take your shot when you can. I'm sure there are numerous teams that had young very good players that thought they would be in the playoffs every year for many years, but then an injury here, a bad year here, etc and where has the time went.
  22. This is me also. My only hope is the lead gets so tight that RR finally finds some backbone and puts anyone in for McGehee. But I fear RR thinks just putting Weeks in the 5 hole will be enough.
  23. The thread title seems pretty obvious what the content is going to be. Why read it if it bothers you?
  24. There is a team option for 2013 of $10M (buyout $1.5M, so net $8.5M cost). If he pitches like he has this year in 2012, that option will have value.
  25. I reckon the salary to bring up a player from the minors for a month is $75,000 and including all the other stuff, travel, etc. equals around $100,000. Which in and of itself is not petty cash. Plus I'm not sure about the intricacies of an injury and how that would potentially affect pay and costs long-term, if at all.
