  1. The Brewers received comp pick(s) for Linebrink, right? What did he(they) turn out to be?I think one was Cutter Dykstra - who turned into Nyjer Morgan. Not 100% sure, but I think this was the case. not sure who the other pick was.Well if that is the case, I guess I would tangentially call the Linebrink (Morgan) for Thatcher/Inman/Garrison as a net win.http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

  3. I disagree. Basically only a team with an established closer could trade for KRod. Any other team picking him up would have had to give him the closer's role and had him vest his big money for 2012. KRod (his agents) knew that they couldn't win a grievance about not being a closer in Milwaukee so you might as well take the extra money the Brewers threw at him to get rid of the clause.
  4. Just to verify what others are seem to be saying - if you claim a player you don't get a chance to do a physical - hence there is the risk that the team put the player on waivers because he is hurt. Is that it? Isn't there 24 hours to put in a claim? If so, basically you can see if the player is playing to gauge his health before putting a claim in. Plus with today's media, it would be a pretty big deal for an injury not to leak.
  5. Isn't Barmes himself available?I guess I didn't even look at his bio and assumed that he was signed multiyear since the Astros didn't move him. Duh! Should have known better with Ed Wade.
  6. I don't see any Barmes types that are going to be available as free agents from scanning the baseball prospectus lists. Either they are ancient like Carroll, Renteria or they are pricey like Reyes, Rollins. Be interesting what happens with Furcal. Only played 100 games in 1 out of 4 years. Looks like he has a team option.
  7. That would work for me. Also for those that want to trade away Wolf, what are you going to do with that extra money? Are you spending money on 1B and using Gamel as bench? Because if you assume Gamel gets the 1B job and we don't get stupid with Reyes, then we won't really be spending any big money on position players. So you would look to spend on pitching. Is there starting pitching free-agents-to-be out there that are going to pitch better than Wolf for his salary slot? Seems to me the scenario where we trade away Wolf would be if Mark A. goes fullout for Fielder, frontloads the contract, and uses Wolf's money to balance the budget.
  8. I agree with not a lot of options, but I still wouldn't give Yuni $4M ($6M option less KC pymt of $2M). I would consider Yuni at a lesser rate for one year, but I doubt he would look for something that wasn't multiyear. But let him go shop and if he can't find a desperate GM maybe he comes back to the Brewers for a one-year contract for 2012.
  9. My preference would be to give those starts to guys who will not be on the playoff roster, in particular Peralta and De la Cruz.If Estrada, DLC, Narveson or Dillard is even in a 9 inning playoff game, that means we are way behind anyways - so who cares who is pitching?
  10. I like Hairston as the main jack of all trades. He is listed at $2M this year. I assume he would be around there for next year.....
  11. I do like the idea of getting Estrada starts after we have it all locked up and getting the main 4 guys an extra couple of days rest.
  12. I would hate to trade away a starter and end up rotating AAAA pitchers or overpaying for an aging FA. We better get something too good to pass up to trade away a starter.
  13. I don't think he is going to get as much as you think in FA. Yeah the FA total will be bigger because of years, but really not close to the option. So if your main reason to acquire him is to replace Fielder, I would wait until the Cubs buy him out.
  14. I assume he would get around $12M in arby?.... If so, how much are you thinking for a long term deal? Are we talking 3 years for a total of $24M? With that scenario I can see him taking the arby and trying for a contract the next year - especially if he doesn't think he is going downhill. If you think he will make more than $8M/per season on a long term deal, than I would assume he would take the long term deal.
  15. Seriously? Are you suggesting we give up 5 years of Gamel for a few months of a good Shortstop? He didn't say a free agent to be shortstop. He didn't even say MLB shortstop. We have long-term needs there.
  16. 15-12 and still in the hunt.
  17. The fact that he is still batting 5th (especially when Hart isn't in the 2 hole), gives me no confidence that they will make any change.
  18. 40 man roster - I don't know the ins and outs. But does the move have to be short-term related? Could they have made the James move now just because he isn't pitching that great and there is no threat of losing him? In other words, if they kept him on the 40 man roster and he started pitching good and then they wanted to remove him from the 40 man would there have been a risk of losing him? If he is off the 40 man and now starts pitching great, would there be any reason the Brewers would need to put him back on the 40 before the end of the season?
  19. I definitely would charge a premium to a team we may be competing for a wildcard spot before it is all said and done. Now if we are in July and we knew the DBacks and Rockies were out of it, then I am not as concerned about moving him.
  20. Well Furcal makes $11M this year. You think his salary will be $7.5 next year? Plus I would assume Bentacourt is gone after this year regardless of any other wheeling and dealing. But if you are going to include him in any scenario his 2012 net cost is $4M, not $6M - as KC shipped $2M for the 2012 salary/buyout. They better use that buyout money that KC sent them. The Brewers should use a minor leaguer @ $400K if they have to.
  21. I think San Diego will want as much for Adams as Bell because Adams is cheap.
  22. I don't disagree with DFAing Nieves but I do think we need a backup catcher.Well they always could use McGehee as the backup. I was just thinking about that the other day, when his batting stats are approaching Jason Kendall territory.
  23. I doubt that the TV/radio revenue is tied to wins or viewership to a great extent once the contract is set. I think they redid the FSN contract a couple of years ago. So I wouldn't expect any great revenue increases from those local sources.
  24. I might agree if the Brewers had more of a sure thing replacement for him. But if we wait and he leaves via free agency and someone isn't ready to pitch at a #3 type pitcher level level from Estrada/Rogers/Piralta/etc (after replacing Wolf with one of these guys already) then you are going to end up overpaying for a free agent pitcher. Might as well see about the pitcher that you know and he knows you - even if we don't get a hometown discount, we won't have to pay the "come to Milwaukee" free agent premium.
  25. I don't see the Brewers replacing McGehee because he only makes $500K and will still be just starting arby next year and he has shown he can be productive in the recent past. Plus, how many 3rd basemen are they going to find in July that are a clear upgrade that won't cost some good prospects (that they should be using to find a shortstop). If Melvin makes a move, I think his first two moves would be to find a shortstop or lefty reliever.
