  1. They're getting plenty of looks at the Cards pen. You gotta think the familiarity will pay off at some point.
  2. Getting men on base is key here. Lohse just isn't the same pitcher with baserunners.
  3. He did. NLDS roster: Pitchers (11): Yovani Gallardo, Zack Greinke, Shaun Marcum, Randy Wolf, John Axford, Francisco Rodriguez, Takasi Saito, LaTroy Hawkins, Kameron Loe, Chris Narveson, Marco Estrada. Catchers (2): Jonathan Lucroy, George Kottaras. Infielders (7): Prince Fielder, Rickie Weeks, Yuniesky Betancourt, Casey McGehee, Jerry Hairston Jr., Craig Counsell, Taylor Green. Outfielders (5): Ryan Braun, Nyjer Morgan, Corey Hart, Carlos Gomez, Mark Kotsay.
  4. Bill Schroeder is so awkwardly bad at his job.
  5. Hunter Pence with the RBI double for the Phillies. Phi 1 StL 0 in the bottom of the 1st.
  6. The mystery man (#38) behind Prince is the Brewers director of team travel, Dan Larrea.
  7. I think an extension would be a slam dunk if word got around the way it did in Kansas City for people to leave the guy alone in public.
  8. Nope. That has to be Bengie Molina last year for Texas. Widely known as the slowest player in the major leagues he actually completed the cycle by legging out a triple in his last at-bat. The triple was the only triple he hit all year. To go into the last AB needing to do something he hadn't done even once all year, the odds had to be astronomical.
  9. Now how bout some Badger Mutual Insurance Runs
  10. Right now we need a Kevin Greene on the Brewers coaching staff to walk up to Braun and calmly tell him: "It is time."
  11. The Brewers audio producer on twitter before the game last night... Going off that, it sure seems like Prince picked the songs, and gave the audio producer reason to think there was a specific reason behind the selections.
  12. McCalvy thinks its Carroll that will be the one to go from the Brewers roster. On twitter after saying he think Carroll goes... He also sees Hairston as platoon partner with Morgan and backing up infield with occasional start at 2b.
  13. I think the price of these players is being driven up more by the other teams that the Brewers are competing with. For instance, St. Louis is in on Furcal and probably guys like Barmes, Carrol, Ryan, and Bartlett as well. And then you have to factor in a bunch of other teams looking for infield help. Whatever names those teams are throwing out, those are players the Brewers have to top from their system. So let's say hypothetically St. Louis has an offer out there for Furcal centered around their 5th ranked pitching prospect who ranks 15-20th overall in their system. The Brewers equivalent would probably have to be someone from their top 10. That's probably a no-go, and for good reason. The farm is stripped enough and there's no guarantee Furcal will even perform much less stay healthy. Bottom line: The talent Melvin is probably being asked to give up is equal to the kind of player he is used to giving up for much surer commodities and upgrades. When Melvin gives up any one or a few of his top 10 prospects he's used to getting Sabathias, Greinkes, and Marcums not Furcals and Barmeses. What is the plural of Barmes anyway?
  14. For the time being I agree, but he's more that that going forward. He's insurance. Betancourt is hitting now and McGehee is doing just enough to hold his spot. (.353 w/ .988 OPS last 7 days) The signs of life coming from those two combined with the exorbitant cost being demanded by teams out of the race for their disposable infielders has most likely convinced Melvin not to go too big. What Hairston gives them is a guy they can feel confident plugging in there if McGehee or Betancourt fall back on their faces. I think Mark A. knows that buying high salaried waiver dumps in August is the way to go anyway.
  15. Here are Hairston's 3 year splits vs the NL Central: vs Stl - 27/79 .342 / .381 / .976 / 5 HR / 14 RBI / 4 BB / 12 K vs Pit - 18/56 .321 / .371 / .853 / 2 HR / 8 RBI / 5 BB / 7 K vs Cin - 3/11 .273 / .273 / .546 / 0 HR / 0 RBI / 0 BB / 1 K vs Chc - 10/55 .182 / .258 / .513 / 1 HR / 5 RBI / 6 BB / 9 K vs Hou - 16/68 .235 / .274 / .612 / 2 HR / 6 RBI / 4 BB / 6 K Gotta like what he's done against St. Louis and Pittsburgh Here is his 3 year split at Miller Park... at MP - 12/31 .387 / .459 / 1.265 / 3 HR / 9 RBI / 5 BB / 6 K He obviously doesn't mind hitting here, of course some of that had to do with some pretty weak Brewers pitching 2 of the last 3 years.
  16. If this is it, it's a colossal mistake and a huge waste of talent. A suddenly dominant bullpen, a rotation rounding into form and 2 of the 5 best hitters in baseball surrounded by a handful of some of the worst. And oh yeah, those hitters who rank among the worst in baseball just so happen to be horrid defensively which in turn lessens the effectiveness of the talented pitching staff. It's akin to hand painting a Bugatti with house paint. Upgrading the offense and defense all at once can be done simply by acquiring average, readily available major league talent. If nothing is done to improve the left side of the infield and the Brewers go on to miss the playoffs because of it, it's a giant, permanent, and unforgivable black stain on the resume of Doug Melvin.
  17. I agree for the most part. I have little doubt that Ramirez would be willing to come here if anywhere at all. It's just a matter of Melvin stepping up to the plate, Mark A. opening the checkbook, and the Cubs willingness to trade within the division. This needs to happen.
  18. Here's a link to a story from back in June that more explicitly states Ramirez's primary reason for not wanting to waive his no-trade... http://sports.espn.go.com...lb/news/story?id=6636534 And later in the article... Hopefully he'd consider Milwaukee close enough that he wouldn't have to uproot his family.
  19. His desire to stay close to family briefly mentioned in this link from his possible change of heart today... http://chicago.cubs.mlb.c...ey=news_chc&c_id=chc
  20. In Chicago they talk about it all the time. I'll try and dig up a link. If it is true, I'd have to imagine Milwaukee would be 2nd choice for him after the White Sox. And with the state of flux the Sox are in, the fact that Ramirez had this apparent change of heart in Milwaukee, might not just be coincidence.
  21. That seems like a foolish move on his part, but if that's the case, I could get on board. As a rental, there isn't too much risk.At this point I'd do it even if A-Ram wanted the option to vest. He could be Prince's replacement in the lineup and on the payroll for one year. More importantly, he'd fill the gaping hole defensively at 3rd base, the gaping hole in the lineup that is Casey McGehee, and most of all he'd fill the gaping hole that is the 5-spot of the Brewers lineup. I can't think of a more perfect fit available on the market. This would put the Brewers over the top imo.
