  1. Please just stop. Please don't make this your next crusade and repeat the notion 1000 times. His arm is not strong enough to play on the left side of the diamond. And that's without the injury that almost put him under the knife. Also, defense matters.
  2. He was saying that their position in the batting order is leadoff and #2. No, they aren't the Nats two best hitters but 2 significant pieces nonetheless
  3. The 8 spot in front of the pitcher is one of the hardest spots to bat in. Many batters have quite a bit of difficulty dealing with the expanded zone that comes with the spot before the pitcher creating a black hole at the bottom of the lineup. Arcia is thriving there right now. Let's move him!
  4. Ooh, you sure told him. And just how many strikes does he get before you demand he be fired?
  5. So do we have to include the DSLs for an organizational sweep? 5-0 from the big club on down to A ball, and 6-1 with the Dominicans
  6. Why would a team trade a TOR projected pitcher already in AA or AAA for anyone much less Guerra? If the guy is better than Woodruff or Hader and thought that highly of (TOR), you'd just bring him up.
  7. Will Gideon go from #4 on one guy's list to completely off his list by the time of the next vote? Silly ranking being proven silly
  8. The guy is looking savant-like with some of the talent he's unearthed for next to no investment. That's why some posters who are expressing doubts about him already are taking well-deserved flack. Seriously, what else could you ask for at this stage? He's churning talent in every imaginable way - waiver claims, trade throw-ins, major prospects for relievers, Korean-leaguers scouted solely on tape. I hope people continue to stomp down the naysayers because it's a foolish side to be taking right now. I notice the "sky is falling because Miguel Diaz got away" crowd has been quiet lately. An ERA over 13 in the past week will do that to people. Even if Diaz ends up the second coming of Cy Young, it will just prove that there still has been no human to walk the Earth who's been perfect. Same goes for the Scooter crowd (OBP now under .300). Just proves some people are hard wired to be negative at all times. Sad really.
  9. And 100% rightfully so. The Brewers should be one of the stingiest teams in baseball at starting arby clocks. Why on earth would anyone here ever want to waste a full year on a piece of the future in a year where contending is a fantasy. That kind of shortsightedness is ridiculously out of place in a small market. This is nothing new either. Can't believe this still has to be debated.
  10. For someone who seemingly cares only about the present and winning games in the current season, it's very odd to see you pine for Scooter Gennett as though he's some key, win now player. You're line of reasoning is really, really hard to read every day coming here.
  11. Brewers Record: 69-93 Playoffs: No Brewers MVP: Braun Brewers CY Young: Josh Hader Brewers ROY: Josh Hader First player traded: Tyler Cravy Surprise player: Jared Hughes Disappointing player: Villar World Series: Toronto over Washington
  12. CC has to be salivating over the possibility of having Perez, Aguilar, and De Jesus on his bench. The versatility there is unprecedented. I have to imagine Stearns is working every angle trying to find a suitor for Gennett. I think there's a decent chance it happens.
  13. Silly to spend a second worrying about that when not present in the organization with first-hand knowledge of Perry's character or work ethic. I've never heard a negative word about Perry's motivation. Now worrying about how they'd replace that level of production. That would seem like it would have been something worth worrying about.
  14. All this is fine and dandy and I think most would agree with you but also most would agree that there are more creative ways to improve this team. Signing Perry again doesn't jump this team up a notch. Might help keep it where it's at but it doesn't make that defense much better if any. The previous post to yours laid out what the Patriots have done so far and that's a team fresh off the Super Bowl. Why can't we use other avenues to improve this team? If TT is not creative enough, time to move on to someone else. OK, so would have letting Perry walk been better? And did I miss something? Is the offseason done? Btw, the Patriots history with big ticket FAs isn't that pretty. The Gilmore signing is a treadmill move if they trade Butler, arguably the better player. And they just lost another starting CB in Logan Ryan. Packers fans love to add up gains and departures then point only to other teams signings while ignoring their losses. It's been shown countless times that the best use of free agency is 2nd and 3rd tier hole pluggers, something GB uses it for all the damn time. The big contracts go to guys who get paid like 1st tier players in price only. True blue chippers and difference makers don't make it to free agency. They're extended and franchised. Green Bay always uses the cap money somehow, some way. They've got more than usual and I'm actually encouraged their letting some guys walk like Hyde (overrated) and hopefully Lang who will be overpaid unless he takes a discount to stay. So unless they sit on $20 million in cap space, I think it's a good bet we see some vets signed at low level deals.
  15. Perry departing would have been a loss. Hyde departing is far from one. It amazes me that people whine about not paying for one guy then cry about paying too much for another. They paid what the market dictated to keep Perry. Again what matters is keeping the one who made a positive impact. Perry defends the run well and adds a pass rush threat. That's a rare combo. Hyde meanwhile is one of the slowest defenders on a defense that sorely lacks speed and gave up a Pro Bowl passer rating. Hyde got paid starter money and will have a difficult time living up to it. He's best suited for a utility role.
  16. Given the low projectability of high schoolers and teenagers I'm not at all worried about this ranking. The odds of a 10th ranked teams young prospects outperforming the 20th ranked teams' prospects are most likely very negligible. It wouldn't surprise me one bit to see this list's results being completely scattered in terms of predictive success rate. In other words a total crapshoot that far away from the majors. Where I want to be is at the top of the list of teams accounting for prospects in AA and AAA.
  17. I wonder how many springs have to go by before people realize how so not indicative they are of how a player or team will perform in the regular season. In actuality it seems more common that teams and players perform the exact opposite of what their spring training performance suggests. I see fans suddenly thinking this winning streak the Crew is on means they might be pretty good this year. Is it possible? Of course. The more likely result is that they'll struggle to match last year's win total given major losses in the bullpen and at catcher.
  18. I don't understand why people think they're going to be better than last year. The 2016 team for much of the season had Lucroy at catcher, Jeffress, Smith, and Thornburg locking things down at the end of games, and the NL home run leader. The bullpen was a clear strength. Sure new arms could produce decent results but it's hard to expect dominance out of the 2017 pen. And if Braun is moved, which I still think will happen at some point, that's a whole lot of talent cast off from last year's team. Sure there are talented replacements on the way but it would be misguided to assume they're all going to play to their potential right away. And it certainly wouldn't surprise me if guys like Villar and Broxton still have some growing pains to work through. I really think 2017 is going to be the bottom out year.
  19. RE: Ray it sounds like they took the guy they were most confident would pan out. In a sport where the vast majority of players drafted amount to nothing, I like that approach. You keep drafting that way and you're going to put together one helluva team. Drafting for major upside when it very rarely works out the way you hope seems stupid.
  20. Just be the first to start the wave of teams setting up shop in Vegas. Partner up with another team if you have to. Sure there would be some added travel expense until more teams move their complexes there but the revenue would jump dramatically. I know how you Wisconsinites love having an excuse to visit Las Vegas.
