  1. This could be one of those rare cases of a spring training blockbuster. It would go a long way towards helping build back Luc's value if he's able to play regularly early in ST and swing the bat well. Teams don't want to pay the Brewers' asking price without an assurance of his health. It's a small window but a team that can bring Lucroy in 2-3 weeks prior to Opening Day should be able to make the transition with their pitching staff.
  2. It's never a good thing when people reading through these posts know exactly what name will appear next to the comment after reading. It's commonly referred to as a "broken record". That's you. Merry Christmas
  3. What would you rather have? Cheap 1B stopgap in Jason Rogers? Prospects plus cheap 1B stopgap? Clearly people are having reading comprehension issues with the first 9 words of my comment.
  4. Don't take this as my being against the trade but it's kind of odd that the Brewers are scouring the earth for a cheap, stopgap 1B after trading one to a team that has legitimate sights on competing for a World Series title this year and feels he can help get them there. I think people are going to be surprised by the numbers Rogers puts up this year.
  5. You all are too kind. Geesh
  6. not really. The brewers don't really have anyone to play 1st, 3rd, of CF next season. There is no top prospect that the brewers could fill in. To give Alverez a 1 or 2 year deal, is similar to picking up Aram's option last season. It buys time. It doesn't jive with 2 things... 1- a desire to develop young players 2- a focus on defense, and more importantly putting a good defense behind our pitchers so as not to diminish their value #2 is the part I'd really hate to see sacrificed. I'm so sick of our pitchers having to get 4-5 outs to get through an inning, whether via errors or missed outs due to lack of range. If they want to go the "sign and flip" route do it with cheap pitchers (SP or RP) and put a great defense behind them.
  7. I gotta admit, Alvarez would be a real head scratcher. Doesn't jive with anything else Stearns is doing.
  8. Yep, my guess too. Stearns actually seems to care about defense and Davis' little league arm in the OF is a major liability. Santana isn't a CF but he's not a bad defender. Moving Davis makes room for Santana in LF.
  9. From the Baseball America article posted by reillymcshane above... Amazing thing to read given where things stood just a short year ago. Shorter than that really.
  10. Keep in mind Stearns took this deal over offers from two other teams and there were 12 teams that showed significant interest. It's not like they didn't have other options including offers with players at more advanced levels and even major leaguers. That's why I say this is a pure scouting trade. They must really see something in these 3 kids. They identified something projectable in them that made them comfortable going this route over say a flawed AA or AAA player(s). The way I'm looking at this trade is that it's like today was the June draft and these are 3 high schoolers that we just drafted in rounds 6-8.
  11. If the emphasis going forward is to match defense with pitch to contact, strike throwers, at least it will be a philosophical match. Unlike the prior regime's matching of high velocity guys that they hammered on to pitch down in the zone to try and force weak contact to induce ground balls to our don't give a crap defense. That's a welcome change at least.
  12. When you're trading your only proven 1st baseman and re-opening that glaring hole for 3 teenagers, what's the point of hanging on to Lucroy? He's gotta be as good as gone, right? The comments by Stearns have to be lip service to keep demand built up.
  13. Missaki was the youngest player in the 2013 WBC. So there's that.
  14. Pure scouting trade. This is some serious deep mining. Tracking these 3 pitchers this year and in years to come will give us a great insight into the new regime's eye for talent. I wonder what role Montgomery played in all this. This is almost like making selections in the June draft.
  15. He did make it to single A ball though. Apparently it 3 pitchers who didn't play above short season ball yet. I don't see where someone said they all never played above short season.
  16. He did make it to single A ball though. Apparently it 3 pitchers who didn't play above short season ball yet.
  17. Hernandez and Morgan both meet the teenager and short season criteria.
  18. The only thing David Stearns has shown so far is that defense won't be completely ignored. Nothing he has done suggests he's trying to piece together an 80 win team. Geebus, the inability to have any patience before drawing conclusions is reaching pandemic proportions among Wisconsin sports fans.
  19. Low and away is great in theory but doesn't jive with the Brewers organizational lack of emphasis on defense nor their focus on drafting power arms. Why teach your pitchers to pitch to contact and then on the other hand continue to draft all-hit no defense positional players? And why stress velocity in accumulating pitchers only to teach them an approach that lessens their ability to get swings and misses? I look forward to the new regime having more well connected philosophy.
  20. Coaching pitchers in the minors is what he's been doing and doing well. The Brewers obviously feel he's ready for the next step. Talented coaches don't stay coaching in the minors their whole career.
