  1. Cobb's not too inspiring Orioles debut today... IP: 3.2 H: 10 R: 8 ER: 7 BB: 1 K: 0 HR: 2 Not the kind of debut that makes you feel bad about not getting a guy who some here considered "must-have". Zero strikeouts is definitely concerning.
  2. Hmm, let's all flood the board with questions and hot takes that we immediately refute but decide to post anyway. Let's see how well that goes over. Maybe I'll start with "When do the Brewers trade Arcia?" And the first sentence can be, "Let me make this clear, I don't think they should trade Arcia but at some point they have to, right?"
  3. You mean like this one? The bolded is neither dramatic or sweeping. Saying something is "like" something is far from definitive. It's logical that a person drawing conclusions from tiny samples is mathematically destined to be made a fool. Don't worry, I'm checking out of this cesspool. Yeesh.
  4. It's silly to draw conclusions on a player's season after 3 innings. It's silly to predict Cy Young and silly to call someone is a bust. What's so hard to understand about that? Sweeping comments dramatically positive or negative at this point make the person saying them look like a fool.
  5. Because Tampa Bay isn't fielding a legitimate team this year and is being cheap.
  6. Hardricourt on Twitter saying Choi goes down to AAA once Dan Jennings is added to the roster. Maybe he'll hit a pinch hit HR tomorrow and force them to ax someone else.
  7. Initial speculation from Hardricourt is that Choi will get sent down once Jennings is added...
  8. Just signed, per Hardricourt and Rosenthal...
  9. He's now a Brewer, lock it up!
  10. Fewer swings and misses, more putting the ball in play, advancing runners, and getting the run in from 3rd with less than 2 outs!!! Not being so home run dependent but still having plenty of thump, Hooray!!! Mainly I'm just glad Keon Broxton isn't a regular and Thames won't be flailing away against lefties. Now we just need Derek Johnson to work his magic with the pitching staff. Tomorrow's game can't come soon enough!
  11. Win-Loss Record: 88-74 Playoffs (Yes, No): Yes Highest Playoff Level Achieved: NLCS All Star Game Representative(s): Yelich Offensive Player of the Year: Yelich Pitcher of the Year: Anderson Most Surprising Player: Arcia Most Disappointing Player: Thames I see this team hovering around 4-5 games over .500 through May before making a big trade for a TOR starter. Add in Jimmy Nelson for the 2nd half and I think this team is firing on all cylinders going into the playoffs. I see Arcia having a breakout season and Thames struggling with the somewhat self-generated pressure of trying to stay in the lineup. Yelich is an MVP candidate and Anderson proves last year was no fluke.
  12. You forgot Barnes
  13. Beat me to it, thanks markedman5. All and all it sounds like they're being conservative as they probably should. I remember hearing Jimmy say he was looking to beat their timeline and in fact didn't even want to look at it. Just glad to hear everything is going in a forward direction with no apparent setbacks.
  14. You've been going back and forth with that guy for days now. Put him on ignore. And for reference sake, here is the pertinent board rule and why your post was deleted: Condescending talk toward other posters (including but not limited to name-calling, baiting and flaming) is not allowed. Other Brewers-related message boards are more tolerant of "talking smack" to other users, and we suggest you go there if that's what you're about. I did not violate that rule in any way. Responded to via PM.
  15. I'm thrilled with the Cain and Yelich acquisitions and would have done them 100 times out of 100 even if they did nothing else. I'm beyond thrilled that they're remaking this lineup with contact hitters, cutting out K's, and making sure the additions are good with the glove. I'm on board with that direction even if Chacin wasn't signed. Our offense will be better at producing runs and our defense will save runs. It's all about adding winning players as they become available. And I give the team the benefit of the doubt that not all winning pieces can be acquired at once. IMO, the biggest piece missing from the puzzle if a TOR arm. It's also the hardest to acquire which is why it shouldn't stop you from adding Cain and Yelich when you can. I was excited about the possibility of adding Quintana. I was (and still am) excited about potentially adding Archer. I'm excited about the other unknown possible TOR arms that may be available or will be soon. I realize its going to be very costly in terms of prospects if they add that TOR arm via trade. I'm perfectly okay with that. I think it will come sometime between today and the Rule V draft in December. I honestly think it could come any day. It will happen when the price is right, when the prospects requested by the team we're trading with match what Stearns is willing to part with. I think it could come tomorrow just as easily as it could at the trade deadline. I think the Brewers have the foundation in place for multiple trades. I believe they have named their price and it's just a matter of another team blinking. So to answer the question at hand and a WISH of what could have happened. I WISH a team would have already said Yes to an offer for their TOR arm. I'm hopeful a team will say Yes soon enough.
  16. Found the article I had in mind. The Nelson info is after the opening section on Vogt. https://www.jsonline.com/story/sports/mlb/brewers/2018/02/28/brewers-catcher-stephen-vogt-expected-out-2-3-weeks-strained-throwing-shoulder/379910002 The article further states that by the end of spring training he'll be about 7 weeks into a throwing program. So he's been at it for awhile now. The end of spring training is also when they anticipated the next update.
  17. What board policy did I violate? Did I call anyone any names? And the post you just quoted was a compliment to the previous two posters. We're censoring compliments now? So a guy makes around 100 posts unchecked about how terrible it is that we didn't sign Alex Cobb. I point out the absurdity of said poster admitting that Brewers brass knows more about him yet saying they're wrong anyway - AND that gets censored? Without name calling?
  18. I think he's in the stage where they incrementally extend the distance throwing on flat ground. If I recall correctly he wasn't going to take the mound until soon after spring training ended.
  19. The last 2 posts have both been great. Just glad to see some level-headed big picture thinking. Anything but a sky is falling because we didn't get Alex Cobb post.
  20. That's a dime a dozen around here and hardly makes you unique. The very fact that you're posting on a message board means you probably like to discuss the way a team is assembled. Mere passion doesn't mean you know any more than anyone else here. Which brings me to this.. If you think Alex Cobb at the deal he just got is some huge missed opportunity, an occurrence so rare it needed to be pounced on, then I'll just say that you're not making a strong case to quit your day job. My goodness, since when did Alex Cobb become such a field-tilting talent? And how is Matt Arnold not aware of such greatness having a front row seat to Cobb's development in Tampa? Who would've thunk someone would be willing to make Alex Cobb's 2018 free agency the hill they choose to die on? Yeesh
  21. Says the guy responsible for damn near half the posts made on the last 4 pages of this topic. And the gist of what you're saying is that is was Cobb or bust no matter the cost. That's not a premise, that's close-mindedness. Dismissing the other alternatives and downright eschewing the possibility that Cobb would offer little to no upgrade is foolish. You're trying to make yourself out to be a knowledgeable and logical contributor but your definitive statements and obstinate viewpoints undermine your credibility. There are other ways to complete this puzzle. And to be honest, many of them are much more appealing than Alex Cobb at 4 years, 57 million.
  22. 5... pushes 4 spots down a peg... stengthens depth and adds his own personal contribution. 85 in the mix to 90 in the playoffs. This is absurd and really exposes the shortcomings in your logic. Cobb is an extreme longshot to add 5 wins. That's superstar territory. Can we just stop with the definitive statements already? We don't know if the Brewers were even high on Cobb. We don't know if Cobb was willing to even come here. Consider possibilities rather than drawing wild conclusions. It's really all anyone here should be doing. No one should be making wild accusations or bold statements because we don't have enough info. Perhaps the Brewers are aiming higher? Perhaps they will continue to shop for a starter who would plug in as their #1 or #2? Perhaps that acquisition will come sometime this year and make fools of all of you acting like missing out on Cobb is world-ending?
  23. Are you a child? Or do you have inside info? Serious question. Because if you don't have inside knowledge of what will come next then you're coming off as a petulant child. Cobb at $60 million dollars essentially would have had to been the final piece to the puzzle. It wouldn't have left much room to do anything else major. Does anyone here feel comfortable finishing off a contending team with Alex Cobb at 15 per for 4 years? The tone of your post is "they didn't do what I wanted so that's it, they're never going to do what's necessary to build a contender. I'm taking my ball and going home!"
  24. Thanks for compiling this. Things that jump out... - Orlando Arcia isn't going anywhere anytime soon - could use a big year from a catcher or two, hopefully we see some big leaps there this year - here's hoping a LH starter falls to our slot in round 1 of the June draft - impressive OF and RHP depth
