  1. I can pretty much assume that when the smoke clears, the Cubs will be the biggest losers of them all. The Rangers get 1 year of potential ace Rich Harden for what the Cubs pay for 2 years of run of the mill middle reliever John Grabow. Them hendry will probably turn around, trade Bradley for next to nothing and sign some pud like Marlon Byrd or Rick Ankiel.
  2. Jake Fox is an AL only player who may have had many teams interested, but not enough that they would have offered anything of value for him. What I like about this deal is that it gets Aaron Miles out of town and the A's pick up 1.7 mil. My only question is why a tem with Jack Cust would want a nearly identical player, and the same could be said that Aaron Miles is a poor mans Adam Kennedy, and Kennedy isnt that good to begin with. With Kevin Gregg and Miles gone, and it is inevitable that Milton Bradley is on its way out, all of Jim Hendrys disasterous '08-'09 off season moves are gone. Too bad the season cant be undone.
  3. Watching that, maybe you guys could use Prince on the mound. I kid. It is pretty cool though.
  4. I dont think theres anyone who would consider Brett Wallace as hardly giving up anything.
  5. This year was different after the 2007 and 2008 Cardinals both seemed very much in it before collapsing like they were supposed to. As for the 2009 team, they have the Cubs and Brewers to thank. It was supposed to be down to those 2 teams again for the division, but neither team seemed ready to do anything about it. St. Louis saw an opening. They knew their team was mediocre at best behind Pujols and occasionally Ludwick. They knew that with the right moves, they could take the division and run, and thats what they did when they revamped their lineup adding DeRosa, Holliday, and Lugo. They took a lineup that looked like Schumaker Brendan Ryan Pujols Ludwick Ankiel Molina Greene Pitcher Barden/I forgrt the name of the 3rd baseman who looks like Jermaine Dye and seeming gly overnight turned it into Ryan Lugo Pujols Holliday Ludwick DeRosa Molina Schumaker Pitcher I dont know their exact batting order, but its a pretty drastic difference. That and the fact that Chris Carpenters arm hasnt fallen off. yet. Hopefully, next year Holliday is whisked away by the Red Sox, Yankees, Mets, or Giants. I know he says he loves St. Louis, but this is Scott Boras were talking about, and he tends to get his way.
  6. The question is, are they adding another year of team control because they want to keep him or make him more attatcive to potential trade partners?
  7. I know Melvin claims hes not ready to move these guys for money alone, but I think you could get some decent prospects for Hoffman and Cameron, maybe Lopez. It all depends on what Melvins willing to accept in return.
  8. Translation: I was once a well respected analyst, but all this time in the booth with that blithering imbecile Hawk Harrelson has reduced me to incoherent babble.
  9. I would not do this. Only if the pitcher was Clayton Kershaw. Loney this year... .277/.351/.383 Yes he is slugging .351. He is will be 26 next year. IF we traded Prince I want guys under the age of 25. Either against leftys this year... .198/.287/.356 He is really struggling to hit leftys and he will be 28 next year. I don't think I would do this even if Kershaw was involved. Maybe if you throw in Martin as well we would talk. I think if Kershaw or Billingsley were the pitcher involved I would do it. I still think Loney could develop more power. As for Ethier I was not aware of his splits vs. LHP. But overall he has some pretty stellar numbers. Etiher and Loney are both making next to nothing and under team control until 2013, and Kershaws making even less, and under team control for well longer. Do you really think that they would trade all 3 for a guy who will be on the last year of a contract?
  10. I wouldnt bank on resigning Prince. When 2011 rolls around, there will be a lot of big money teams willing to give him really, really big contracts, and Scott Boras really, really likes money.
  11. yeah, but the Cubs primary injury concerns were Bradley and Harden, both of whom have been relatively healthy.
  12. How about the Indians? The entered the season as clear cut favs for the AL Central, and ended up breaking down the team by the ASB.
  13. CC Didnt want to be a Yankee from what I gather, but when they offered him that monster deal, the player association essentially forced him to take it. Remember, he really wanted to be a Dodgers or an Angel, and I have trouble beliebing that one of them wouldnt be able to sign him if that Yankees deal was pulled off the table.
  14. Geoff Jenkins is still out there. I wonder what Teddy Higuera doing these days.
  15. I know. I think the last deal the 2 teams made was a waiver deal for Ben Grieve in 2004. As for trade value, if the Brewers packaged Hart and Hardy, they could probably get a number 2-3 type starter. If they were to package Fielder and Hardy, it would be hard to imagine them not getting an ace, and with Fielders deal up after 2010, thats something they should seriously consider.
  16. If the Brewers and Cubs had any intention of helping eachother, I think that JJ Hardy for Sean Marshall would be fair.
  17. I definitely smell a rebuild for the Crew around Ryan Braun. I dont know if they'll be able to sign Fielder long term, as a lot of teams will be drooling over him, and Scott Boras really likes money, even more than most people. If love to see him in a Cubs uniform come 2011, but by that time, their will be a lot of competiton.
  18. Good move. Wait, is Castro the guy whose to blame for the Yankees offering CC Sabathia a monster contract that the Brewers had no chance at mtching and caused Ben Sheets to be constantly injured and replace them with Braden Looper and a carousel of minor leaguers and offer Jeff Suppan an idiotic contract?
  19. Wow, thats pretty rough. Is Hardy arb eligible next year? Makes one wonder if they'll just let him fly. Personally, Id love to have him on the Cubs and slide Theriot back to 2nd. Between the Brewers, Cubs, and Mets, I dont know whose the biggest train wreck.
  20. No. First it was the Pirates fight, that didn't work. What makes you think this will work? The only way this gets the Brewers going is if it magically makes Looper stop sucking and heals Bush's arm faster.or better yet, makes them magically re aquire CC Sabathia and a 100% healthy Ben Sheets decides to come back.
  21. 2 proepects name Luke French and Mauricio Robles. Surelt Melvin could have matched that. My gretest fear is that at 2:59 today, Melvin will come out of nowhere and land you guys Halladay or Greinke.
  22. I dont know if Id call it impressive, but certainly decent. Hart seems like he'll be a back of the rotation starter who can keep his team in the game for the most part. Ascanio can be dominant at times, with possible closer stuff, but hes been inconsistant. Harrison has put up decent numbers in A ball, but projects as a utility player. I wish that the Cubs had gotten Duke instead, but Im definitely relieved that Hendry didnt give up Jay Jackson, as was the early rumor during the day. I guess Gorzalanny will be an interesting experiment.
  23. Im very meh on this deal. Neither player really interests me, but if we dont give up anything of value, Im OK with it. If Gorz can come anywhere near to 2007, then great, but I wont hold my breath,
