  1. Although he has struck out 7 times in 5 games after starting out 6 K in his first 3 (with only 1 H and 0BB), so we will see if that K rate settles down longer term to 25-30% rate which is fine for his power profile. Not great but if he hits hard and walks some I will take that.
  2. While on the subject of hitting. I have noted how low the scores and hits are for the Brewers prospects at all levels -outside of Nashville. But I looked up and they are hitting well for their leagues. Carolina, team BA .260, first in Carolina league, with league average .226. Wisconsin, team BA .255, second in Midwest (youngest position players). With league average .237 Biloxi, team BA .230, middle of the pack, just above league average (.229) Wow, those leagues are just poor hitting, or is it just superior pitching?
  3. Nice night of relief pitching for the baby Brewers. DiTuri is hitting, Bitonti no hits, but 2 walks and 1 K. After 6K, 1H and 0BB in his first three games, a little better his last four.
  4. The other part of the equation is that it is rare to have a legit hit tool and power. Those prospects with serious grades in both categories are top 15-20 picks usually, or the IFA that the Dodgers/Padres sign. The org did draft for power and raw tools for a while in the 2010s (think V. Roache, Harrison, Gatewood, Lutz etc). Those players if they do not hit, the power is useless. Whereas a hitter who can get on base still has upside, and maybe can generate more power. So if I were to pick between the two, I would go with guys who can hit, or find a way to get on base, and hope that a few develop power along the way as they develop or grown. That has been a big shift that last few years I think starting around 2016 - 2020, when that shift seemed to begin (Ray and Hiura were hitters who had power potential, and Mitchell was an excellent athlete). Since 2021 on that seems to be part of the MO - also going with the very Stearns like approach of scout what others aren't scouting (ie JuCo arms; pitchers with elite spin but lack of success; hitters who can hit; guys who are athletic to play defense anywhere), and throw in the occasional wild card (Misioroski in '22; Pratt in '23) who sign for big bucks. Still I agree, the AA and high A clubs are in the bottom 2 in HR, and bottom 5 in SLG (although Biloxi plays in an 8 team league), Carolina has more power in their league (tops in SLG), but their SLG is bolstered by the league leading triples which speaks to their speed. Which is another tool we have in spades in the system. So this could be the year to try to draft a power profile or two, so balance the good hitters, elite speed and defense that the system has.
  5. Right or it is about getting innings. Maybe more innings, less appearances? The more hitters you see the better for understanding what works. He has a couple of arm injuries I believe, and missed a lot of time in college, so this is catch up time for him I would think.
  6. Agree. Or when he pitches a few good innings let him have the confidence that day. Oh well, Nashville loses a heartbreaker, but really not Ashby's fault.
  7. Nashville down to their last bat. Black singled, and stole a base, but two outs (Capra before him, and Hicklen pops out after). UP to Miller
  8. Have a day Jimenez. He does come out for the 6th, but K, FO, K and he is dealing. 6 IP, 3H, 0BB!, and 7K in 89 pitches. Cornielle and Jimenez with 2 outstanding weekend starts for the TRats. I doubt he comes back out for the 7th? At almost 90 pitches, I would guess no. Probably no Yoho available today.
  9. Well Shuckers get a hit finally! But Darrell Thompson comes on for Nashville, gives up a homer, now Sounds trail 8-7 😡
  10. Evan Reifert on for Montgomery (former Brewer farm hand), let's see if we can get some hits off him. And then some runs would be nice.
  11. Well Montgomery has a perfect game going for them. Nashville got no hit earlier this year right? Biloxi hitters should be too talented to go hitless, but going back to the last few innings of yesterday through today, they have been anemic. Time to break out of the funk boys. Meanwhile E. Fernandez with a HR to extend the TRats lead, 4-0. Jimenez at 77 pitches for 5 shutout innings. I guess he goes out for the 6th. Maybe he breaks the pattern today. Nashville still up. Blake Holub on to try to keep the lead in the8th.
  12. Middendorf walked in a run but got the final 2 outs. Ashby with only 4 ER on the afternoon. Smith got a DP ball to get the first two outs and concede the run, now trying to finish the inning after a walk. Suckers are Hitless. Gotta get hits to win games.
  13. Meanwhile. Shook struggles in the 5th inning. Walk, single, single. One run in and Mound visit. He may be out? Why aren't they letting the guys go out with confidence and have some relievers come in with no one on?
  14. Ugh really? Why are they doing this to him. Ruining any confidence. Let him take a breather after 5 solids IP. Ugh
  15. And Ashby thru 5IP, 7K 5H but only 1BB and 1HBP. That’s a step forward right? TRats do TRats things. Homer scores two. Then Lara hit, stole base, ORae hit. He tries to steal but pinch gets by catcher for a passed ball that scores Lara and lets ORae get to third. Hall gets HBP (now he’s officially a TRat right). Wood grounds out. But TRats up 3-0
  16. Hats off to a couple of relievers yesterday. Craig Yoho a 2 inning save, after his 3 inning masterpiece earlier in the week. And Jeison Peña, who came in after Mogollon struggled with command to keep it a one run game. Great rally from the Mudacts in the ninth. Wild game, base loaded in the ninth but Root got the final out. ACL - looks like DiTurri and Bitonti are the players hitting to start the season.
  17. ACL blown out, Nashville blown out. Shuckers lose a tight one, with an OK performance by Miz (I mean unhittable, but walks and HPB and pitch counts are what will do him in). TRats with a big win and dominant pitching. And Mudcats with a come from behind a few times, blow the lead a few times 8-7 nailbiting win. I'll take it though. 2-3 record with a close loss in Biloxi and nice pitching by a few folks in the organization. So how'd the big league club do? 😉
  18. Well. base loaded, but Root gets the K. Mudcats/Pescados win 8-7. Nice ending to this one.
  19. third out to the 3rd baseman to end to game? Nope IF were shifted over, and groundball to left field for a 2B. 2 men on (2nd and 3rd), two outs. Root has to get the next man.
  20. Well it's Bayden Root game to close out.
  21. Yophery called out on a borderline pitch, but he has to protect the plate with 2 strikes on you. Baez the hitter gets a hit to push the leading run in . 8-7 Pescados!! Get some more. Then turn it to Hunt.
  22. Bunt triple scores a run. YEah you heard that right. Well really a bunt with 3 base error. Now tied 7-7, runner on thrid.
  23. Mudcats trail still 7-6. On to the 9th. It's Y. Garcia, Mercado then Guilarte. If anyone gets on it is Yophery, who does like the big stage.
  24. Shuckers let it slip away. 2-1 lead, lost by Bowman, then Childers with each a run in 2IP. Yeager shuts em down in the 9th. Shuckers ... um sorry King Cakes ... get lead off walk. Then flyout. Strikeout by Dirden, on like 10 pitches and did a good job to stay alive. But Sparks goes down swinging too. In Fayetteville, Mudcats will have to try to tie or win in the 9th. Bottom of 8, and need to keep it close.
  25. Mogollon finally gets an out, but a force out. 2 outs, but another run in. Now 7-6 deficit and J. Pena in. Not Mogollon's night.
