  1. 16 plate appearances in five innings. One well-hit ball. Against Kevin Freaking Slowey. I hate this team.
  2. When you go smack the umpire, can you smack this team, too?
  3. This Minnesota team has lost eight of ten. The pitching staff has been absolutely blasted over the first seven games of this road trip, allowing double-digit runs four times. Our response? Look completely unprepared against a glorified Double-A pitcher. With how often this happens, you'd think the response would be something more than "Gee, why can't our hitters adjust?". I'm about sick of the same old crap with this team.
  4. At least they're not generally as boorish as Cubs fans. They just want to see a real ballpark.
  5. So our hitters are the only ones who don't adjust well? Every year. No matter who is on the team. That makes zero sense to me, but I wouldn't be surprised, given the history of this organization. On the bright side, the bullpen got up after the fourth hard-hit ball in a row. I'm glad we have a keen sense of what could be going wrong.
  6. I'm shocked we looked surprised that the Twins would bunt with Gomez and Casilla. It's clear to me now that we didn't do any scouting. This is ridiculous. Why even bother with interleague games if we're just going to throw them away like they don't matter?
  7. I do think they're similar, but what annoys me is that we always do this with guys we don't know well. It's as if the scouting people aren't doing their jobs to prepare the hitters. In the case of Bush, we're always holding our breath waiting for the meltdown. Slowey isn't exactly like that, but he has the "Bushesque meltdown" in him. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  8. I hate the way we handle pitchers we're not terribly familiar with, especially slop-throwers like Slowey. Seriously, do we have advance scouts?
  9. Great. We're making another bad Twins pitcher look like Cy Young. Nothing like letting a bum only have to face the minimum through three innings. Fabulous.
  10. Exactly. He assumed the tag was there because the throw was. You never assume anything. If you don't see the tag, you have to act as if it didn't happen. No single position is going to give the ump a chance to see 100% of the possible angles on a play like that. His mistake was assuming something happened that he didn't see.
  11. Pretty pathetic umpiring work there.
  12. If we don't hit this piece of garbage on the mound for the Twins, I vote that we put the loss on someone other than Bush.
  13. Blaming that run on Bush would be akin to blaming the error on Braun.
  14. At least Bush avoided further damage. Freaking Hall. He doesn't owe us an RBI in this game. He owes us a Fernando Tatis inning.
  15. Baseball on flesh. What a fun sound.
  16. I'd rather keep Dillon at second, personally. He's better at getting on base, and he's not going to embarrass himself in the field, as Hall now has at two positions in the last two seasons.
  17. Ned Yost will still be an idiot. Similarly, Bob Brenly is an idiot, but he managed a World Series winner. And Barry Switzer won a Super Bowl. Simply catching lightning in a bottle doesn't make you intelligent.
  18. How do you know what was asked? Were you there? Do you have the full transcript? Perhaps TH asked another question and didn't deem the answer worthy of printing. These guys are limited by space, and they don't always get to post 3,000-word masterpieces. But you are correct. If you want any kind of clue what is going on in the clubhouse, the beat reporters have to maintain some kind of rapport. That's what makes situations like Friday so difficult. Yost pretty clearly doesn't have a clue what he's talking about, and yet Haudricourt has to get something out of him when he does something as incredibly idiotic as what he did in the eighth inning Friday. But if TH is too confrontation or too probing, his job becomes more difficult as a result. Such is the life of a beat reporter. I'm sure we'd all love for the media to second-guess Yost on a daily basis, but it's not how you build a productive working relationship with the organization. So TH arms himself with some facts, asks some pointed questions, makes the manager look like an idiot, prints it, and it's still not good enough. Such is the life of a beat reporter. We get a bunch of armchair quarterbacks - myself included, in some cases - telling them how to do their jobs, too. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  19. I think this question was asked once and glossed over. What would you like him to add? He talks about what happened in the game, compiles some usually relevant quotes from the clubhouses, and files a story. The difference between us and him is that he actually travels for the road games, and he has to put up with potentially (usually?) snarly people in the clubhouse so he can get some thoughts from the participants. This story is a good example of the crap a beat writer goes through. Emphasis mine. Just think: Haudricourt had to sit there and listen to that. Without laughing.
  20. Could someone ask Hall if he honestly believes he deserves to be playing more? Brutal. At this point, I'd be in favor of trading him so Ned isn't tempted to use him anymore.
  21. When was the last time you saw a coach get admonished for arguing with an official? That said, I advocated numerous times that Sherman get himself thrown out of games when he was in Green Bay.
  22. "Hey, Ned. Why didn't you argue that call more vehemently?" "I knew it was wrong, but my team needs me to not get thrown out of the game. I'm their guy."
  23. If he argues too much and gets thrown out of the game, how would this team function?
  24. Since there won't be a bottom of the ninth, when does Torres pitch? Brian is drinking more Kool-Aid.
  25. Boy. Lots of nitpicking going on in here. Bottom line: Haudricourt's job is to report on the happenings with the Brewers. If you want someone to call Yost out and ask that he be fired, it seems to me that you should call Bill Schroeder, Michael Hunt, Steve True, or some other sports-talk guy/columnist in Milwaukee. It's not Haudricourt's job. And if he were to, at some point, call for Yost's head, his job would suddenly become much more difficult. That's just how the game is played. And, yes, I'd agree with WIsportswriter in that it's highly unlikely that Haudricourt gives two craps what Yost thinks about him. I know that I've never really worried much about what the coaches of the teams I've covered think of me (nor have any other reporters or broadcasters I've ever known). As long as they respect me enough to give me the necessary access to do my job, I'm okay. I don't want to be bosom buddies with these people, because in the end it would probably make my job more difficult (coaches are hired to be fired in today's sports climate).
