  1. Bottom line: This performance only validates what Jayson Stark said about us earlier today. Blame McLelland all you want. Blame Yost all you want. Blame McClung all you want. We had seven baserunners through four innings against a bad pitcher, and we didn't score a single run. That's embarrassing.
  2. I wouldn't have brought in my long relief guy when pitcher's spot is due up and I need guys to work the count and get on base offensively. Was Villy the best pitching option there? Yes. But if you can't count on a guy in that bullpen to get you one out, he shouldn't be on the freaking team. Anyone should have been capable of going there, except maybe Stetter and Riske because they each pitched two innings yesterday. Best-case was that Kendall reached to lead off the fifth so Ned could have Villy drop down a bunt, which would have been absolutely stupid but par for the course.
  3. Perhaps he should have tried one. This isn't the time to be wasting at-bats on pitchers who never hit. I mean, pinch-hit Sabathia if you don't want to waste a bench player!
  4. Wow. This is pathetic. Did they put on the sweep suits yesterday? Cripes.
  5. I don't know. I thought it was rather obvious.
  6. I love how we always rise up and make a random terrible pitcher look like, well, CC Sabathia when we've been playing well.
  7. Wow. Look at what happens when you TAKE PITCHES. Keep working the count, guys. Something good is bound to happen.
  8. We need to start taking advantage of all these baserunners. I know...thanks, Captain Obvious. The baserunning in this game is absolutely deplorable. No focus.
  9. I totally don't follow the minor leagues. Do the Cubs have the tools to make this deal?
  10. The Akron paper guy on ESPNEWS just said that the PTBNL is one of two "highly-rated Class A players".
  11. If I were the GM, I'd start the press conference by announcing the demotion of whoever to AAA, followed by the removal of McClung from the rotation. Only after a few minutes would I mention the trade. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif
  12. I understood where he was coming from, but I guess I don't see how C.C. is only worth two wins. You're replacing Seth McClung in the starting rotation with the guy who won the AL Cy Young last year. Sorry. I don't see that. I'd love a further explanation.
  13. If we didn't have one of the best farm systems in baseball, led by one of the best scouts in baseball, I would probably disagree with this. I don't believe in mortgaging the future for a rental player. I just don't. The teams that do that are typically the big-money teams that just throw cash at the holes created by trading young talent for veterans who don't re-sign. But this isn't one of those situations. Yes, Sabathia is a rental, but we're not mortgaging the future. If anything, giving Jack Z. five of the first 35 picks in the draft next June only strengthens the future. It's one of the best trades this franchise has ever made, both in terms of the risk involved (quite low, actually), the damage done to the farm system (very little), and the message it sends (trying to win right now, instead of "wait 'til next year again").
  14. I'm not watching the game, but if Joe Morgan said that, Joe Morgan is a bigger idiot than I could ever have imagined. We already know he doesn't know anything about the Brewers, because he hasn't seen them play this year. If he said this, it's clear he also knows nothing about our scouting system, our minor-league system, or the system that provides draft-pick compensation to teams that lose free agents.
  15. I'm not sure it doesn't have some kind of small impact on the players. Similarly, I'm sure some of the Indians' guys are bound to get a little down knowing that their front office has just basically given up on the season before the All-Star break...especially when you consider how high their hopes were in February.
  16. The inevitable meltdown of the stupid Cubs fans should be entertaining. In a way, it's already started. Suddenly, we've gone from Sheets-?-?-?-? to Sheets-Sabathia-Parra-Bush-Suppan. Yes, the bottom two guys aren't terribly strong or consistent, but we're in this thing, baby!
  17. Wow. Wow. And. Wow. I'm very happy about this. Best part? The Cubs didn't get him. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  18. Nitpicking here, yes, but let's not give the manager too much credit for this. You'd have to be a complete moron to leave Suppan in the game with how he was pitching.
  19. Well, that's not a problem now. Unless Pittsburgh gets a double play, Stetter will be free to pitch two innings, in all likelihood. Yay. No double play. No more Suppan. What a great inning!
  20. Both bullpens are active. Always a fun thing to see in the third inning.
  21. We've used two relievers total the last two days. GET THE BULLPEN GOING YOU IDIOT.
  22. Good thing we weren't stupid enough to send DiFelice down. He can get us through the middle innings until Villy is set to go. Oh, wait. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/mad.gif
  23. Soup is not going to have a good day, methinks.
