  1. FSN is repeating the Broadcast of the game tonight at 7pm Central. That may be exclusive to Wisconsin residents, though, not sure if it'd help those of you that are out-of-towners...
  2. very tough way to start the season... positives: Saito looked pretty good after a shaky start to his inning, that slider is nasty! Nieves played well. Gallardo pitched very well, overall, and of course Braun & Weeks had great games
  3. it was good to see Roenicke out and arguing that call. Sleepyhead last year might've been napping
  4. Scott Rolen looking like Mark Kotsay in that last At-Bat
  5. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/Giants-pitcher-Zito-involved-in-car-crash-033111?GT1=39002
  6. well at least we have a good solid hitter in the #9 slot today I'll be very intrigued to see how the Brewers look under Roenicke in terms of the base-running and Roenicke's comments about wanting to be aggressive on the base-paths. Between Weeks & Gomez (and Morgan if he gets in the game, and Hart once he comes back) we have some players who can really run. Wouldn't be shocked to see Braun get 20 SB's this year, too
  7. I wholeheartedly agree! I am going to reserve judgement about Kotsay as Roenicke and Melvin hopefully see something in him that makes them think he is a solid possibility, but yeah Morgan in right despite his weak throwing arm would be preferable over Mark Kotsay, to me.... hopefully we'll see Nyger Morgan at some point today whether as a pinch-runner, late inning defensive replacement or pinch hitter
  8. It would be a surprise if Nieves is kept over Kottaras once Lucroy gets back. I'm a little surprised that Kottaras isn't starting today's game
  9. OK, no problem, you got it. But "Prince Hitter" is a keeper
  10. Bet-on-Baseballs-Getting-Through_The_Infield doesn't have much of a ring to it... this does precisely explain why I think Fielding Percentage is a fairly useless stat. Fielder doesn't get to many balls that the average college 1B scoops up easily, thus his error total is down too
  11. I'm not as concerned about the bats as I am about the errors or general lack of range, between Yuniesky Bet-on-Errors and Prince Hitter we have a fairly brutal infield...
  12. Probably a wise prediction. Depending on how great a SS we could get for a rental, I really hope we don't end up losing Gamel, Rivas or Rogers for a rental... I could see trading for someone like Furcal but I really hope we can keep a few of our top prospects
  13. I'm a big stat guy, big into OPS and OBP and WHIP, but I think simply pointing to pitch counts as an indicator as to whether Sheets was overused is misleading... at some point you gotta factor in a purely "human factor" into it... Sheets gave his all on every pitch, he is an intense person and was an intense pitcher with an incredible 12-6 curve when it was on... there were so many games where Sheets would be out there, clearly exhausted, completely done, and Yost would leave him in for another 15-20 pitches. I know what I saw over many years and it was no shock when his body broke down eventually Stats are great, but they aren't everything. I know there are some stats that will say that Prince Fielder is an above average fielding 1B. No, quite simply, he is not a good fielder. I don't care what the numbers say, I think Prince is really pretty brutal in the field
  14. Purely based on my (perhgaps skewed) memory but I remember so many games (dozens, literally) where Sheets was clearly done in the 6th or 7th inning and Yost would just leave him in there. Ocassionally Sheets would pitch out of it but often that was when opposing players would rake on him. All around us in Miller Park people'd be screaming "Ned, he's done!" and Yost would just leave him there... Forgive me, I just don't have pleasant memories of the way Yost handled pitchers. He's no Dusty Baker, but yeah I think the Brewers and Yost misused Sheets
  15. I see Sports Illustrated predicted the Brewers in 2nd place with 85 wins. (Not that I put a ton of stock into SI predictions)
  16. Sure he is. Except for that part about overworking/abusing a great young pitcher like Ben Sheets, so that by the time the team finally gets in playoff contention, that pitching ace who got abused in last place seasons is injured/washed up
  17. I was just reading, recently about a highly prized SS prospect in the Royals system (I apologize, forgot his name). I wonder if the Royals will flip Alcides Escobar when this kid is MLB ready
  18. I of course will hope for much better but I think, essentially, the Prince Fielder of 2010 will be who Prince is the rest of his career, including in 2011...pitchers have started to figure him out, and will continue to pitch around him alot...he'll start out slow (again) and will finish with 33 HR's or so and a .860-..880 OPS
  19. Glad to see that Cruz is still in our system. I'm cautiously optimistic about Almonte. Looks like Counsell will be getting a fairly siginificant amount of playing time as the only backup at SS, 2B, and 3B. Or are they thinking Almonte can play at 3B sometimes?
  20. maybe they should ask Kotsay to be a coach or a mascot
  21. it is only for a week or so until Hart gets back (or, hopefully a week or so...). My question is why are we keeping Kotsay over Boggs?
  22. 3 pages so far and no-one has mentioned that Morgan is a upgrade over Kotsay?! At least in terms of OBP vs right-handers, I'd much rather see Morgan in right-field until Hart gets back. Good insurance in case of Gomez and a good trade. Disappointed they would take Reed over Boggs but I suppose it doesn't matter once Hart gets back
  23. monty57, I sure hope you are correct and it is Boggs that we keep and not Jeremy Reed. I wonder if this helps Luis Cruz' chances to make the team, too? depending on how long Hart is out, I hope Boggs gets some starts in right instead of trotting out Kotsay every game. Boggs is a much better fielder and likely and better hitter at this point than Kotsay
