  1. Jeffress I heard was still hitting high 90's, Mark Rogers I believe earlier in the year was reported to regained most of his velocity and can still pump it up there pretty good (my guess is he would be topping out about 96-97mph compared to the 100's he use to hit), Scarpetta is right around Peralta topping out round 95-96. Arnett tops out around 97 according to reports I have heard (straight as an arrow though). Outside of those few guys I am not to sure
  2. I do not think it is too far stretched to believe Covey will hold out for the two million. He holds all the cards and has the leverage, why budge? If the Brewers want him bad enough, which you figure the would, they will pay him.
  3. I hope they lock up Weeks but if they are even thinking about it they really need to give Lawrie some reps at whatever position they see him playing in the future. I really like Farris but I think he is more of a Counsell type who could play all over the infield and produce off the bench.
  4. 1) No one will protect Braun like Fielder. Fielder is a feared hitter in the league and an elite player. No one on are roster come close to the presence Fielder holds IMO. 2) No matter who it is will go to prove that Braun is not a 4 hitter, not a player to carry the team, and that he was in fact was been merely Robin to Fielder's Batman. I like Braun as much as the next but I am not going to kid myself. Just look at this season, he was not good at all in the 4 spot... teams don't give him the same great pitches they did when he was in front of Fielder. Not to forget that Hart may have started to get going in the 6 spot but he really took flight hitting 2nd when Fielder was 3rd. Maybe it had nothing to do with it but could have. -Also no need to bring up Pujos because he is not a Braun, he is in the elite of the elite category which Cabrera, Mauer and very few others are at. The are just that good that it does matter who is in the lineup, they will just rake. Braun is good but he is not that good 3) Hart if not traded would be best option. No chance Weeks moves down IMO. They have been stuck on the thought that Weeks is a leadoff hitter and have yet to give it up. No matter how many more RBI's he'd be able to drive in, I just can't see them making the change even though I think he'd be a really good 3 hitter.
  5. I hope the Brewers take the Packer/Ted Thompson approach and retain your players instead of live on overpaying worthless Free Agents. We don't need to go out and spend 10 mil a year on a Wolf/Suppan type pitcher and we don't need to go out and overpay for a Jeffrey Hammonds bat. I know people hate the way TT does business but it is the right way to do it. Build a strong core, lock them up and fill in around them. No more wasteful spending. Trade if nessessary to help build that new core but I really hope they don't go out and spend on trash... which is most of the people they'd be able to get in the off-season in free agency. Save, Save, Save and when the time comes that this or that homegrown/ young player needs a new deal you have the money there to make it happen, instead of just have to trade them away and restart all over again like we will now need to do with Fielder and maybe Hart and Weeks.
  6. Yeah sell off the (kinda) young closer, that we pretty much pay nothing for over the next 2-5 years.... makes sense. Not to mention he has no track record of major league success so to believe some team will give us a trade that would improve our team for the "Axman" after 3 months of good baseball is just crazy. Even with Hoffman's horrible start and Hawkins injury, they both hold higher trade value than Axford. So there is no reason to trade away a young cheap closer when he could get equally or more for trading and older much more expensive reliever. I don't know if Axford's future will be at closer or a set man or even just another arm in the pen but with him being a fairly reliable cheap option, there is no reason at all to trade him even if teams do over value closers. Think about it, we trade a reliable pitcher we pay I believe the league minimum for and will then will end up and overpaying on a FA pitcher in the off-season...isn't that what we want to get away from. Wouldn't we prefer to just go with cheap homegrown pitchers to get the job done over overpayed FA? I don't know, trading Axford seems to make no sense to me at all, may just be me.
  7. Because he is without a doubt a 1st round caliber player... at two different positions (P and OF) who because of the injury may be limited to baseball in the future. With a serious leg injury like that it will not be easy to come back to physical grind of the NFL and cover 4.3 -4.4 WR's all day everyday. With baseball he doesn't have to deal with the brutal and physical demands of the NFL and could still perform at a high level. So in my opinion it would be dumb to drop interest and they really should try to extend his rights to see how this plays out. Plus the only reason he was drafted so low was because he was 100% commited to football, not even a slight chance for baseball...until the injury occured. Jones is no scrub ha if he was to sign with the Crew and be healthy, he may just be one of the biggest steals if draft history. Not everyday you get a 1st rounder in the 50th round
  8. You never know with grandma's, maybe she just got Mets mixed up with Milwaukee. If not....Brewers better investigated and make the punishment rain on the Mets because thats not right or cool for them to be doing. We don't go behind there backs and try to sign and talk there picks into signing with us. (Essentially talking them out of signing by promising to give them this much more money next year as a pick or UDFA) Without a doubt I think the Brewers need to pony up and extend his rights with Chad the same as the Angels did with Locker. I think there is no way he will be healthy enough to know what his future holds in the next month to sign him and you don't want to allow that talent slip your figures when baseball is looking like his best chance for professional sports. I was a football fan of his (except to soft for his size) but I just don't see him being able to fly around the field and take the everyday physical demands that the NFL has.
  9. It is more so about ceiling, most scouts think Davis tops of at a 3-4 man in a rotation while Moore as of right now looks like he could blossom into a top of the rotation guy. I'm fine with eighter trade if it was to happen. I personally don't see how a Hart for Davis helps the Rays get that much better unless they feel Hellickson can come up and be equally as productive. Hellickson is the pitcher I prefer for us to target but on the other hand if it is Moore, the thought of maybe having a rotation of Odorizzi, Scarpetta, Moore, Peralta, Heckathorn next year in Huntsville is pretty exciting.
  10. Scooter "The 5'9 165 pound muscle" Gennett with another long ball! I wonder as he continues to fill out and adds some more muscle to his smaller frame, how many his doubles will turn into homeruns. Didn't expect the second smallest player on the team to be 3rd on the team in HR's only behind two true power hitters (Davis and Dennis). He is just a fun prospect to follow... Few more walks from Del Howell than you'd like but not to bad of an outing. Theilbar had another not so hot outing tonight in the first game.
  11. Alright, Lintz has made it through 3IP cleanly again..... how many more til the wheels fall off and he collapses? He has the old Dave Bush syndrome I think, pitches great all game and then go out for one more inning and just get shelled, hopefully that stops today! Fredrickson, Adams, Arnett I think go to show that picking college arms is not as much safer than going with a High School arm as people think. All our top pitching prospects outside of Heckathorn are all High School picks or young Latin FA signings (Rivas, Rogers, Peralta, Scarpetta, Odorizzi, Jeffress, Bucci, Lasker, Anundsen, Seidel, Periard, Braddock was a draft and follow so one played one year of college ball.) Hopefully that tread turns around this year with the all the new college arms they brought in
  12. 3 straight amazing and the one prior was not to shabby outside of one mistake 7IP 5H 3ER 2BB 9K'S. I am still holding out hope for the Peralta, Scarpetta, Odorizzi, Heckathorn, and Seidel/Anundsen Huntsville rotation next year....but that would mean that Odorizzi and Heckathorn would have to get the promotion they had earned quit some time ago (aka I doubt that they have any plan what so ever to try to get there best pitching prospects through the system with any kind of quickness, rather string it out forever). Just think if we trade with the Rays and DM decided to go with Matt Moore ove Wade Davis.... that could be one of the sickest minor league rotations I have ever witnessed! Well time for me to quit dreaming ha. Jeffress rebounded nicely with a good 2 innings 2 hits no walks with 4 k's
  13. Scarpetta has worked his way back into my top two favorite pitching prospects (only Odorizzi ahead of him). Another outstanding start! 5IP 2H 0ER 1BB 6K. I'm guessing he is locating is fastball pretty well to set up his dominating curve.
  14. I have that same reaction every time Juan Sanchez is demoted.Lol, yeah that is a sure killer, my heart just stopped! As for Rivas I happy that when a Brewer doctor says not serious that usually equals out for season with tommy john.... maybe in 3 season may be back to normal
  15. Only 2 of Heckathorn's 7 Runs were earned...One of the worse defefensive games of the season, just horrendous
  16. Well unless we make a trade to get a right handed arm for the rotation there is no way we trade Bush. We would have Gallardo ® then Wolf, Davis, Parra, Narveson, or if magic happened and we got Bumgardner that would still be 4 lefties... that can not be allowed to happen. Plus average or not he is getting the job done and actually a stud pinch runner http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  17. Not necessarily responding to your post but I think the league needs to be taken into account. All of our best prospects have torn up the pitching in AA. I don't like to put a lot of weight in the Huntsville numbers.I agree to an extent but the reason why people put so much stock into AA stats is because that is usually where the top pitching prospects are. AA is where you get much more of the young power arms and lively arms. AAA a has many more of the older, 4A soft tossing, work the corners type of pitchers (example the Nashville's rotation...every year) Which I think it is important to get to both levels and see both styles of pitching but this is a reason why it is much more exceptable these days for a player to jump from AA straight to the majors.
  18. Eighter Manual just really expects a lot out of Lawrie or he is just not a fan...I personally though he made a fantastic stop and a throw that every first baseman should be able to make. Diving away from first base over the middle of the infield to quickly throw a one hope right into Alfonso's glove in time to get the runner is really not making a bad throw. How many 2nd baseman actually make that stop and make a perfect throw? Maybe it is just favoritism on my behave but I thought overall it was a pretty darn good play, and one you can't knock a guys arm for.... not a easy throw. As for batting practice I think a good amount of guys probably popped a "quite few up" and he just decided to focus more on the negitive hits while Piliere decided to focus more on the positive hits. Not a knock on Manual it just shows how different scouts analyze.... no two guys who watch all the same hits will come to the same conclusion ha I mean one says not too impressed another says superb.
  19. Heckathorn and Odorizzi to BC to set up the dream team in Huntsville in 2011 with Peralta, Scarpetta, Heckathorn, and Odorizzi!?! It needs to be done soon! Not to mention RJ Seidel and hopefully Anundsen. Probably a silly dream though...
  20. I believe so knowing Lawrie was there for nearly the entire season, plus Brett is much more physically advanced/matured than Scooter, I think that may have some factor
  21. Ya, him and Odorizzi can ride together to their next destination. Awesome to see these guys dominate. Is Jake becoming another Gallardo? Hopefully Heckathorn gets a seat right next to them on that ride as well. Odorizzi is on fire right now and I have been kind of wanting the Brewers to hold off on a promotion for him until he was not just pitching very well but dominating and he has absolutely done that over his last 4 starts! Last 4 Starts: 3-0 W/L 25 IP 22H 1ER 3BB 32K 1.00 WHIP 0.36 ERA That is just unreal and the true definition of dominating! Also who here would have ever though entering the season that Scotter Gennet would be 3rd on the team in homeruns and 2nd in slugging percentage not to mention top 3 in the Midwest League in runs, hits, doubles, total bases, and batting average. Have to believe if Trout wasn't in the league Ryan would be consider the top canidate for League MVP. Only two things that make this season even stronger for him is if he took a few more walks and snagged a few more bases. (T-Rats are actually just about the worse baserunning team in the MWL 4th from last in steals and 2nd most caught stealings) Jeffress was less than impressive to day with 4 BB and 2 WP
  22. I personally agree with the move. I think the saying "better save than sorry" fits pretty well here. He may be 100% clean and never want to go near grass again but as a team you only can control what you can control. If you don't want to take the chance of losing your highest ceiling pitcher in your system you have to do what you have to do. DM beyond some of the people beliefs on here, knows what he is doing, its not like he just became a GM yesterday so if he feels it is alright to add JJ to the 40-man mid-season so be it. Lets just hope it all works out for the best.
  23. That's awesome, congrats to Cody! Now how does him being on the 40 man affect him and his future? Does it at all?
  24. Yeah last outting he mad it 3 scoreless before the wheels feel off in the 4th. He just hits a major wall it seems
  25. Like I said I think he could be an okay SS and your right is important for him to be able to play both (Pedroia played quit a bit SS in the minors) but when it said and done his best value is at 2nd base. People continue to want him to be a shortstop and thats where I have a problem. I'd love for him maybe once or twice a week get out there and get some SS experience in but I don't want to take him off 2nd completely because it is not where he is most valuable and projectable. Roberts with another really nice game and is now hitting .516.....what a waste that they won't give himself a chance to play against more advanced pitching. Still don't see how hitting .292 with a 13bb to 19k ratio is punishable by having to repeat.... I understand he has two catchers hitting an incredible .150 blocking him from Helena but come on. Salome has moved off catcher, Lucroy is now a starter in the majors and the only true prospect at catcher ahead of him is Garfield. Something wrong with trying to advance to catching prospects through the system? Sorry if I should kinda angry about this but it really bugs me. I know they like to take it slow with HS players but unlike Walla and McKelvie I think he has earned himself the opportunity to be challenged and move up the system.
