  1. Well I'm pretty sure Jeffress is more than ready to get back to AA. He needs some competition to face
  2. I don't mind Bennett to much but for the Brewers to rather have McLeary starting instead bringing up there closest SP prospects in Rivas and Rogers kinda does. Rogers IMO is a little behind just because of him being limited and his extreme walk total. These are two guys that could stand a chance to fight for a job next season and I think the Brewers need to put them in a position to compete for a spot next season. Man Helena just never says never! battled back from 6-1 to take the lead in the 7th.
  3. Wow, Hawn, Hopkins, and George literally carried the team in the come from behind victory also have to hate to see another rough start by a helena SP. Orginally the box score had Hall pitching 4 innings then it was corrected to 1 inning in which he gave up 3 hits and 3 unearned runs 0bb;s and k's. I will be so unhappy with baseball america if they stiff Lawrie again for prospect hot sheet....at least needs to be in the photo! He is tearing up AA pitching right now and has sky rocketed his average by over .40 in the last month not to forget his remarkable OPS during that span. Cain no surprise, I said it to months ago, I said it last month and I'll say it again.. Cain doesn't belong in AA, absolutely no reason to have him continue to play in huntsville. I'd promote Cain to AAA, Komatsu AA, Khris Davis A+, then you have guys like Fatse and Dennis who can play the OF or maybe Romero can be brought back up. The only reason I picked Komatsu is because Salome still hasn't really played the OF or fo that matter anything beside DH.
  4. The even better stat in the line is the 2 BB's!
  5. They also list Thornburg as a RF/DH instead of pitcher.
  6. I'm dumbfounded by the move. They give him the promotion to AAA and he was getting guys out, what more do they want? There is so much thrash for pitchers in our system so lets cut ties with the most loyal, hard working individual in our system because he has a .71 ERA and has walk one to many guys..... Even if he tops out at 91, that in the eyes of DM is a must have flame thrower. I have been pulling for Jones for a long long time and it is a shame that he was going out out there, playing well and have the club acted so irrationally. There is no way he is the worse pitcher in AAA. Best of luck Mike, hope you get to a team that gives you a fair opportunity and you FINALLY get the chance to play in the majors. No one deserves it more than you. Also I will have a very nice grin if you get a chance to pitch against the Brewers and shut them down. They deserve it it for such a classless midseason, undeserved action
  7. I have a feeling that even with this 5-5 performance including another homer and double that Baseball America will completely screw him over once again for prospect hot list. Man is he really only 20 and one of the top 5 youngest players in the southern league because he sure as heck isn't showing it right now. Heckathorn showing once again that it is a complete joke and waste of time for him being in Low class A hopefully Nichols picks up on that soon. Absolutely awesome offensive day throughout the minors today, very refreshing to to see
  8. I also think Scooter (Ryan) Gennett should be promoted as well and should play SS. Escobar's lack off hitting at the Major League level is making me nervous about the production at the SS position. Gennett would be a couple years away, but that should give Escobar plenty of time to prove himself. The Brewers should be looking for some security and depth at the SS position. Gennett to SS solves that. Gennett is not a SS so I don't think that solves it. Prince has had a rough start but I still think he is a decent prospect plus the minor detail that he is actually a SS helps. I'm surprised with all the pushing people are doing to try to turn a 2nd baseman into a SS. Yeah he could play an okay short but all scouts and even Isom have said he is best suited as a 2nd baseman. To me, outside of Farris, he is the most natural 2nd baseman we have. My favorite comparison of Scooter is the Pedroia one. I think it is very suiting and they are alike in many ways. I just don't see Gennett being the security SS of the future. If absolutly needed, yes, if not, no. Last resort. I have to believe they will bump Heckathorn soon. It is not like he is Bucci or Odorizzi and 20 years old and can benifit from more time in the midwest league. They wanted to move Arnett quickly, he stumbled and Heckathorn clearly leaped him, why not be as aggressive with him as they wanted to with Arnett? Both College arms drafted 10-15 picks apart. It is not like the Brewers can not use the arms making there way closer to the majors. Rivas deserves a promotion after another good start tonight. He had a few minor road bumps this season but I think even with those he still deserves the bump. I'd also like to see Rogers also get a bump sooner than later. The only thing is I want to see a nice string of 2-3 games with very few walks if any. He doesn't give up hits but he kills himself with all the walks. If he fixed that problem he has a chance to really be something special like we all hoped but he did it before all the injuries and he is back to it now so not to optimistic. Maybe someone should teach him to not care about strikeouts and just pitch to contact...helped Jimenez drastically
  9. Man Lawrie is just on a tear right now, hard to believe he is only 20 and not much older that Gennett.
  10. If if anyone gets Sports Illustrated, the newest one with the title At Last! Blackhawks has a real interesting article (A light in the darkness) about baseball players and depression, social anxiety, and all those other issues. It talks about Ian Snell, Joey Votto, Milton Bradley, Dontrelle Willis, and a bunch more and it really made me think about Angel and even the issues Braddock was going through. Its a real nice read and hope what ever Angel was battling it gets better and he will feel comfortable again at catcher. Its good to hear DM say that they are still going to have him catch and not abandon it for good.
  11. Man he's a giant lol, I mean Stan is not a small guy but Marques just towers over him
  12. I think Escobar may have just played to much baseball.... hit over .300 for us last season, hit extremely well in AFL, tore up the Winter ball and now he has fallen off a bit. Not making excuses for him but he hasn't had a break at all and it is hard to stay hot for a year straight.. With the Midwest All-Star game coming up, does anyone see Khris Davis returning to the Rattlers for the second half of the season? I see no reason for an advanced college hitter to stay there if he has played as well as Khris has. It is not like he is Odorizzi or Gennett and only 20 that could benifit from more grooming. I think after the Homerun Derby and All-Star game he finally gets the call up. I also hope that Brewers finally move Cain up, its not like he isn't ready yet. Hopefully Schaefer gets going to help make it happen
  13. See after watching the All-Star Game last year I think that Braun would have the potential to move move over and play RF. His arm is not bad and probably better than Lawrie's. RF is the harder position to play out of the two and I'd feel much better having Braun there than Lawrie
  14. Yeah shouldn't be to long at all, kinda weird that the Brewers still hadn't offered Covey anything yet, I'm guessing they were just waiting until they all went out there for the Angels series.
  15. Plus I think Lawrie would have to transition to LF if anywhere. 1st baseman for him is a pure waste of athletic ability. It reminds me of Nomar playing 1st for the dodgers but at least he was old and at the end of his career not 20 and still a stellar athlete (any doubters could just look at his 9 triples) Lawrie is just not a 1st baseman. I know you didn't directly say that was an option for him but some have and it is a terrible idea. I think he would be fine in the outfield and he sure has the athletic ability to play OF but not sure if he has the arm for RF. I know he has a pretty good arm strength but not sure how it translate because never seen it outside of him playing 2nd base. The other problem is what happens with Cain? Gomez is actually only about 4 months older than Cain and has not shown any reason for the Brewers to part ways with him. So has of right now he fits in as the 4th OF or RF if Hart is traded. If Gamel or Lawrie are moved, what do they do with Cain?
  16. I am not worried at all and actually excited for the call down. Davis was on fire and an injury threw him off a bit. I didn't know he got drilled that many times though... good info Tedaldtada. That is just a rediculious amount! I see the midwest as a great place for an advanced hitter like him to get started up. No reason what so ever a fan should be disappointed in Kentrail or down on him... I will take a .390 OBP almost any day of the week and yeah he has had a really bad month, month and a half but if he gets back to 100% health I don't see why he can't get back to where he was at. As for Arnett (I do believe the quote was Bull Durham) I wasn't high on the pick and never expected him to be a star but I hope he would be a little better than this. Hopefully he can go down to Arizona, clear his head, and just throw. Can't go out and pitch worrying about letting everyone down every pitch, have fun, relax, and remember you pitch because you love to not because you have to. Once that attitude gets in your mind, your finished
  17. Not a fan at all. All the move does is say that they have given up 100% on trying to sign Fielder or the 100% do not want Hart... that is a great message to send to a guy you would like to try to lock up long term and the other who is is leading the NL in Homers and has been huge for us. Cross those bridges when you cross those bridges. Gamel surprisingly can make almost every play at third base and actually wow you, the only thing is he needs to just fine tune mechanics on routine plays. That is where he screws up the most. He will make tough play and throw time after time but if you hit a ball right at him and give him time that is when he will launch the ball into the stands or the dugout. Lawrie is still only 20 and learning...he may not be great at second base but if you look at our current 2nd baseman you may notice they aren't to worried about defense and are willing to work on it. Really what I am saying is who knows what the future holds. Why have Gamel and Lawrie play musical chairs? The Brewers may sign Prince long-term or want to keep Hart and then Lawrie and Gamel would have to move again. No need to rush a move, wait and see what happens.
  18. Yeah I really hope they haven't spent to much money on the 16 players outside of the top 20 (only 7 top 20 signed) I always thought they tried to sign the big fish first then sign the rest accordingly. For me to consider this to be a solid draft class we will need to lock up some of the youth prospects such as Pierce, Rivera, Bates, Wick. Can't have a system with close to no young prospects. Our whole draft is 21-22 year old college kids. Nothing wrong with that but you have to lock up the kids who still have high ceilings. Hard to believe but kids like Lintz, Stosh, and Billings are still younger than almost all the pitchers we drafted this season (20-21). With Pierce you have an extremely young, athletic player with a good arm and a frame to grow. Rivera gives you another young shortstop to work with, seeing how Prince is the only legit SS prospect in the system right now (Andres Martinez could become one) it would be nice to add another higher ceiling player to the mix. Bates is a lanky lefty who has roomn to fill out a bit and add a little more velocity. Wick reminds me a lot of Max Walla in that he has big offensive power from the corner outfield spots but also has a longer swing that will cause him to strikeout a bit more. For this to be a class that I will really like is as simple as signing the top 10 along with Gibson & Kneeling. Wick and Bates would also be good signings. I'd give Gibson almost whatever he wants. Figure right now he is considered to be one of the top lefty prep arms in the nation, his value should only go up while at Florida. Plus he reminds me of Braddock in the picture which is always nice ha
  19. Really? I think they look a lot alike, especially the mouth and nose. You could have convinced me the top picture was a picture of Mat from high school. Are you countering my sarcasm or thought I was being serious, lol hard to tell. But yeah that is why I posted the picture of both of them, they look almost identical. The facial structure, nose, mouth, eyes and even the curly hair is just a like. Would have been cool if the Brewers would have picked Ben up much like they did Jemille Weeks a few years back. From what I read offensively they are pretty comparable, defensively Ben plays the the outfield and I guess he is average there. The one big difference was that Mat was not very high touted coming out of high school and very low profile, Ben was a much more recongized appealing high school prospect who was committed to Florida St. EDIT: I put it in blue now to show the sarcasm
  20. Agreed, I have said in some past comments that as much as we hated on Yost since he has been gone we have really noticed how good we actually had it. He was great, he motivated his players, stood up for them (it was almost annoying because someone could have 50 errors and he would still take all the heat for it), but most importantly he worked with the young players. He knew how to connect, develop and handle the young kids. Macha struggles there...plus win or loss it seems like Macha is really choked up and about to cry in his press conferences, it may be me or he just has social anxiety or something
  21. I think we could trade for a guy who holds a perfect BA in the majors for a pretty cheap price, Carlos Corporan! If Kottrasd as still hitting the crap out of the ball I could handle Lucroy not playing much but he isn't. Lucroy has prove that he hasn't been over matched at the plate and yeah his defense isn't ready yet but for the love of god get him out their to let him get there. It really sucks that Zaun will not be able to work with him and help him out once he leaves for his surgery. Its also disappointing that the one pitcher who he was paired with that actually worked with him during the game and helped him out is no longer his PIC (partner in crime). They in all ways are just leaving him out to dry, it is sad to see. Here we got our first true home grown catching prospect that has made it and we are doing everything possible to make sure he fails like all others since Mike Matheny. (Maybe their is a Matheny Brewer Catcher curse... ha) I also think Captain Lou is playing independent ball, mid as all sign him if they just want a back up catcher who they don't want to play. Plus I need some Capt. Lou closure for my man crush gone sour...
  22. http://www.perfectgame.org/images/profilepics/09nat69.jpg http://midwestswing.files.wordpress.com/2009/05/mat-gamel-300x450-b.jpg Wow hard to tell that Matt Gamel(bottom) and recently drafted Yankees, (10th rd) Ben Gamel(top) are brothers or even related haha. Ben is a little bit smaller (5'11 170) but will mostly like fill out like big bro
  23. I'm not going to judge this draft until this time next year at the earliest. They have to settle in, adjust to the difference, they are already beat up from the high school college season, and some won't be signed early enough to play. I completely disagree with X unless he has been to watch every prospect multiple times. All we have to go off is some scouting reports most of which the scout only sees them once maybe twice and short 30 second videos. Hard to be able get a good read on a player and project how good he will be by watching them once or twice. Now with that said, as of right now this class doesn't have me jumping up and down but we have in the past and many of those have been disappointing as hell. The draft is a true crap shoot, every prospect is hit or miss. Some rate to be future all-stars and fall on their face and there are some who project to be career minor leaguer who turns into a all-star. I personally don't know how Nelson will turn out, he just turned 21 or is just turning 21 so it is hard to believe he has no upside or room to grow. I am not going to look at his stats to get a read eighter because college stats are useless. ERA doesn't really matter, college is a hitters game. So to say his ERA is almost 4.00 doesn't mean much, he pitched what 80IP's? You throw in one or two bad outtings that ERA will balloon and not make it back down much. I personally will wait til everyone starts playing before I make a judgement on how much talent and upside a kid has. I respect Callis and all those other guys but they don't have every single prospect pegged correctly and fair enough. They have 2,000+ kids to look at a season, how much time do they have to scout every single player, more than the Brewer scouts who watch like every games? I learned from coaching that it is often the years you think that you will not be that great that you have your best seasons and when you are extremely excited about a team it doesn't turn out according to plan. Same can go for the draft
  24. Yeah Brad Nelson was another fourth rounder who tore the cover off the ball at first... They seem to find some decent bats there in the fourth. I have high hopes for Hunter but not going to get my hopes up. I heard he has some contact issues and I hate to see him become the next Katin
  25. So if Hunter Morris signs quickly does anyone else feel Dennis will be moved back to Outfield? You have to believe the only reason he was moved was because the Brewers had no true 1st base prospects and felt that Dennis at least gave them one. It will be interesting to see how that works out. Like most I am high on Morris and with his abilities I could see him making a quick move through the system including a stop in Wisconsin sometime this summer.
