  1. Scarpetta twirling a 1 hit 1bb 9k gem through 6 inning so far. ERA is has finally made an appearence in in the 3.00's! Over the last 3 or 4 games he has really turned it on and his control has been much improved...hope it continues!
  2. Man Butler may be a steal in the Romanski form (except Butler had his chances, Brewers never game that to Josh). This kid was a third round draft pick, quickly shot up to be one on the best pitching prospects for Seattle and was considered by many to be the gem of the Bedard trade. Then he had just couldn't stay healthy and this season came out and struggled. He is only 22 years old, it is crazy to me how a O's of all teams could give up on a pitcher who has a lot of potential and is still young. Really he is the same age as Arnett, Heckathorn and the majority of our recently drafted pitchers so still could turn into a quality pitching prospect. We now have the 2 best (or 2 of the 3 best if you count Pierce out of Fond du Lac) from that great Wisconsin 2006 high school class in Butler and Seidel.
  3. So how about we get one of possible real catching prospects up to Helena. I don't believe Roberts deserved to have to repeat Arizona with the season he had last year and he has came out hitting again this season. Then of course Jhonathon Javier is already 22 (23 in September) and appears he is playing good ball thus far. He is the one DSL player from last year who really shined. I think one of the two needs to go up, they both are guys who to me should be starting everyday. It is not like Helena is recieve any production what so ever from the catcher spot. What was the point of calling Roberts up at the end of last season just to set him back more by having him repeat Arizona which I thought he clearly hit his way out of...is his defense that bad or what?
  4. I guess congrats on the All-Star game....not so much on the not so great season. He's given up 9 bombs and an ERA nearing 6.00, You'd think Rogers would make the most sense if they just wanted another Hometown pitcher, otherwise Hand like mentioned above, Hinton has been not to bad, Cody has pitch just as good if not better. Reminds me of the MLB all star game with their "pitty" picks for teams like the Pirates when they don't have anyone voted in. I really shouldn't be such a downer about this but it is a head stratcher for sure. Any who congrats Michael! Kind of wish the spot would hae went to Gindl, he is having a quite but really respectable season. Out of anyone on the team I'd think him or Rogers would have been most deserving for that last spot.
  5. And can throw strikes!! If it would be Sanchez I will probably just cry ha be such a wasted trade. If we can somehow get Bumgardner (maybe Hart wins HR Derby and MVP of the All-Star game or the Giants just like him that much) I cwould be estatic! A true 1 or 2 pitcher to go with Yo. He's still only 20 but can't complain about he has already done in his first 3 starts. Parra is the only pitcher outside of Yo I really care about staying on the team. So if it takes one of pitchers who is not Parra or Yo get it done.
  6. Agreed, there is nothing that suggests that Gamel lacks intellegence or that he is lazy. He has that layed back type personality from what I have read about him and heard in interviews but that doesn't make him "lazy." I also don't know what stupid would have to do with anything eighter, it is not like you need to be a rocket scientist to play the game. He has good range at 3rd with a wild arm (on routine plays, if he doesn't have time to think he makes some pretty great plays) and he is a great line drive hitter who has good power in his bat but he K's at a decent rate, so what does that have to do with intellegence? Eighter way I think Gamel's biggest issue is just his untimely injuries, maybe there was something more there with the Gamel -Macha relationship but who knows
  7. He hasn't been terrible with young players, people want his head for the Gamel situation but that is it. Gamel is the one road bump in his track record that he has. The Lucroy move appears to have then the right way to go, he has stuck with Escobar and stuck with Gomez until he played himself completely out of the roll. Braddock has been handled very nicely so far, and if you go back and look at his Oakland days he did a nice job with the few offensive prospects he had and a great job with the young pitchers. (You can't put Harden and Mulders injuries on him eighter) Nick Swisher is the prospect that turned out the best from the Macha era but to be honest Macha wasn't given many young postional players to work with. Chavez had been playing for 3 years before Macha got there, Elles was a full-time starter the year before Macha came. Bobby Crosby was handled great he just forgot how to hit after his monster rookie season and has never figured out since and Dan Johnson was handled fine but he just couldn't hack it. Both didn't fail because of Macha actually they had there best year during there rookie season under Macha.
  8. I wonder what is better, the games where Mark is unhittable but walks 5 or the games he gives up 5 or 6 hits but walks 0 or 1.... I wish he would meet somewhere in the middle it seems like it is one or the other. I'd like to see a 5 IP 3H 1BB 5K type of a line for a few straight games. The BB's are the only thing holding him back right now. I listen to the Helena game today and Miller pitch really well outside of a rough start where he gave up 2 straight walks but once he settled in he was pretty good...excluding against Rowan who is on a tear right now (2 bombs and on the season is hitting like .530). Jimmy Nelson had a nice 2nd inning his first could have been better. The RBI triple was a routine fly ball any other night Steve said but the wind carried over Keen's head and the a little linedrive by the next hitter scored the second run. After that he settled in. Prob had a few nerves out there for his first pro outting. Sizemore made is debut for the season and I guess he is a very strong guy with popeye type arms, Steve mention that in talking with Yost, Yost said that if he stopped trying to pull the ball so much he could be a extreme dangerous hitter. From listening to his at-bats it seems he hits the ball hard and on the screws. Thats what I got out of the game
  9. Wow.... didn't see that coming at all, its weird, i'm excited but also shocked at the same time. Congrats Lo!
  10. I have no problem with the comments, he was mistreated and rather disrespected by the team. Why shouldn't he be proud he was able to battle through it, come back, and prove people wrong. I'd feel the same way, so congrats to Braun, Yo, AND Hart. He deserves it and has more than earned it.
  11. He is a starter until he proves he shouldn't be. He is too young with way too much potential to be given up on as a starter. If he comes up and flat out lays an egg as a starter and then maybe switch him to reliever but not before then. I think next season he starts out as a starter in Nashville and we will see him by August (command willing). Jeffress is pure electric and if he can control his fastball and develop a decent chance up he could be special. Best part is he is still only 22 and has plenty of room to continue to grow.
  12. Another nice game for Howell, bet he wishes he could have April back (16 runs in 10 innings) Since May 1st he has a line of: (5 of the 11 games are starts) 41.1 IP 30H 14ER 20BB 30K 3.07 ERA 1.22 WHIP As a starter since May 1: 5GS 27.2 IP 24H 9ER 10BB 16K 2.98ERA 1.25WHIP He still needs to improve his K/BB ratio but other than that I am glad to see him turn the corner and get it rollin. Hard not to like a starting staff the puts Odorizzi, Heckathorn, Bucci, Howell and Lasker out there every 5 games. Edit: spoke a little too soon as the T-Rats brought him back out in the 7th and he gave up a unearned run and Theilbar came in and gave up a 2 out 2 run triple Burlington Bottom 7th Jose Bonilla walks. Fernando Cruz singles on a bunt ground ball to third baseman Cutter Dykstra. Jose Bonilla to 2nd. Luis Del Rosario out on a sacrifice bunt, pitcher Del Howell to first baseman Hunter Morris. Jose Bonilla to 3rd. Fernando Cruz to 2nd. Julio Aparicio pops out to shortstop Michael Marseco. Gerard Hall reaches on fielding error by shortstop Michael Marseco. Jose Bonilla scores. Fernando Cruz to 3rd. Pitcher Change: Caleb Thielbar replaces Del Howell. J. D. Alfaro triples (1) on a ground ball to left fielder Khristopher Davis. Fernando Cruz scores. Gerard Hall scores. Carlo Testa flies out to center fielder D' Vontrey Richardson.
  13. McKelvie and Walla continue to bring a nice breeze to the Arizona heat.... talley up another 2k's a piece. I like both prospects and they are still real young but man they need to find a way to cut those down. The 20 year old OF Kenny Allison continues to rake at the plate with a 3-3 performance making it 16 hits in his first 33 AB, even better only 2k's
  14. So he left before the pitcher even made a move towards home? If it was that then yeah that is not smart baserunning at all. With 3-2 and 2 outs you are suppose to berunning but you can't leave early like that if that was the case.
  15. Rolando Pascual made his hitting deput tonight in the DSL going 1-4 as a DH. That was interesting to see but with a double header prob just wanted to save some players. Odorizzi with a really strong start again tonight. 7IP 8H 1ER 1BB 8K, inching his way to joining Lasker and Heckathorn with sub 3 ERA's (3.14 now).
  16. After the All-Star AA break is there anymore reason for Rivas to not be moved up?? My guess is that they won't move him because they like to baby a lot a pitchers. Rivas is on the the 40 man, get him up to AAA and let him pitch there. Come September if he is doing well call him up and give a few innings (doesn't have to be starts). Get our top pitchers a chance to compete for next year. Heckathorn should already have 2 or 3 starts in A+ to make sure he is in AA next year and Rivas in AAA to have him in competition for a 4th or 5th spot next year with the club. Odorizzi and Lasker are both only 20 so I don't them sitting in A ball all season but Heckathorn is already 22 and Rivas I believe is 24, they can handle a bump. Man this Jose Cepeda has pitched really well for the DSL I wonder what kind of prospect he could be. Doesn't have the size nor the strikeout rate right now but im curious about him. Lawrie has really started to cut down the K's lately and I am really starting to believe he may be something special. Is it a stetch to believe he may hit AAA this season? With seeing what the Brewers are doing with Cain I think it may be. Still hard to believe Cain as only been playing baseball for about 8 or 9 years. He may be a guy who doesn't completely click and reach his potential until 26 or 27. Hard and even scary to imagine with the way he has played that he may still have that much more room to grow as a player.
  17. Not going to say the two words but Maverick Lasker has something special going through 5!
  18. No, but he is still in A ball with the Oriols annd this season hasn't been pretty for him
  19. Man it looked like a promising start for Lintz. He has great through 3 then the wheels came undone in the fourth. Arnett 6 up 6 k'd hope he uses this and regains some confidence.
  20. Bush since the Twins blow up: 2-0 WL 6 G 5 GS 30.2 IP 31H 10 ER 8BB 16K 2.98 ERA 1.29 WHIP So an average Bush star over his last 5 starts 6 IP 7H 2ER 1.5BB 3k (2:1K/BB) 3.00 ERA 1.41 WHIP 3/5 quality starts Whip is a little high and the K's have not been there but even if isn't fooling hitters he is getting the job done.
  21. Have to think Narveson just bought a couple more starts with the gem he pitched today. (unless he lays a big egg next time out)
  22. This has been on my mind lately with DD almost healthy, Gerut and Hawkins working towards it...What do the Crew do when they are all healthy? The team has found a groove with the guys they have. Rotation turning the corner and giving many quality starts, pullpen has been unbelievable, and offense is looking good. It is hard to really find a guy on the team that should be replaced to make room for these guys. Who does Davis replace in the rotation? Who gets sent down? Gallardo and Parra are looking like the 1 2 punch that he always hoped for, Wolf has to much money invested in him, Bush beside for a few rough games has done a fine job and Chris hasn't been excellent but is doing the job and hasn't deserved to get bumped. In the Pen right now I have confidence in everyone we put out there. Loe and Braddock (minus that one blow but which he does, he will have 10 amazing outings one terrible one then 10 amazing 1 terrible) have been really nice, CV is proven and pitching well beside for the HR mistakes here and there, Trevor Time looks to be back in action, Riske is looking like the guy we first saw before he broke down, Coffey is reliable, and Axford...wow. Who do you bump? Ha this has just being bugging me and I'd like to see what everyone else thinks on the subject.
  23. If I remember right Gordy said he'd stay in the bullpen the whole season because Jeffress (team also agreed with him it was best) if he be there to help him stay more focus on baseball with the possiblity of pitching on any given day. Which big tip of the cap for Jeremy showing that he wants to stay clean and work toward it. Much easier not to get high when you might have to pitch on any given day instad of pitch, sit around for 4 days then pitch again. Could be just me but that impressed me that it wasn't the team that thought it up but him going to them. If he was to only move up to BC i hope it would be just one or two outings and then get him back into the prospect mix at AA. I have talked about it before with where I stand on how I feel it is important to get our top guys (Rivas, Rogers, and now Jeffress) in the best possible position for them to help the team out sooner than later. To me that means Jeffress needs to get in as much time as possible in at AA against real competition. Really he just kind of needs it before he goes to the AFL (I'd assume they will send him to get extra work). With good showings in both he could start out in AAA and maybe if he excels, contribute or get his feet wet sometime next season with the club. A prolonged stay with BC I think could set him back. With his arm out of the pullpen right now, if he can keep his command, look out. That is a tough 1 or 2 innings for an opposing team. That may sound like high hopes and it is but I have always believed in him and will continue to wish him the best on his path.
  24. Man, I'm kind of really excited for this stretch, we really have an opportunity to cover some ground. Right now our starters are at least getting quality starts close to every night, our pullpen (excluding that dreadful Colorado game) has been doing a great job, and he have a very reasonable schedule to make a little move. Seattle, Houston, Pittsburgh I hope for a 7-2 record ( can live with 6-3) and take at least split with Cards and Giants. So without all the math ha I'd have to agree with rluzinski with the 11-6 record as the most probable if we stay at this level of play. A 13-4 would be my dream situation going into the break. (2 of 3 sweeps vs. Houston, Seattle, and Pittsburgh-2-1 vs the odd team out) Then take 3 away from eighter SF or St. Louis and split with the other. It is actually really nice starting so slow for once....We tend to come out blazing and then die off in the second half of the season, maybe this season will be the exact opposite. Maybe kind of like Houston a few years ago who seemed completely out of it and were like 10 or more out in August and stormed back into contention.
  25. Well it worked again tonight! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
