  1. They called Stern back, so presumably, deserving or not, it'll be Suppan or Parra. Possibly tuesday, if they move Gallardo up? Here's to hoping Parra gets another shot at the rotation. He's put up good numbers out of the pen and well, he isn't Jeff Suppan. Marco Estrada really interests me in the minors though. I think he can be a pretty decent back-end starter for the Crew next year. I'm not ready to give up on this year, due to the state of the NL Central, but if Parra can get it together in the rotation, the club may have a pretty decent starting 5.
  2. Edmonds taken out of the game...I wonder how long Stern will be in Nashville. Does he have to stay for ten days in the case of an injury?
  3. They do seem to have a liking for signing DH's to play the field
  4. I had no clue how dominant Axford had been in Nashville this year. 13.1 IP 2.03 ERA 5 BB 19 K 0 HR, wow. Although, I am a bit surprised that he will be allowed into the league with that mustache... http://web.minorleaguebas...=milb&t=p_pbp&pid=446099
  5. I hear he's being paid completely with Starbucks Gift Cards. I wish I owned that Starbucks at Hwy 40 & Blue Ridge Road...according to the Starbucks website, that's the closest one to the stadium. I hope they know enough to staff up for the onslaught.Starbucks went down 3.3% today. Perhaps they heard winds of Yost changing to Dunkin'...
  6. If the Jays get the gate revenue from playing in Philadelphia (which I think they will for the most part), I don't see why they wouldn't want to play the games in Philly.
  7. Baldkin, That's interesting. I wonder why the Brewers didn't place Jeffress on the 40-man earlier...Perhaps they thought he wouldn't get caught again...
  8. Do you really think Witrado could put together a coherent paragraph?
  9. At this point, I expect Capuano to make some type of appearance in Milwaukee this year, so long as he stays healthy. With how the rotation looks, I really doubt he'd have a shot at making any starts, but he could certainly be valuable out of the pen.
  10. ...and the frequency of Chad Moeller's name being mentioned on FSN broadcasts will fall by a factor of ten.
  11. My money's still on either Lincecum or Halladay this year. Those two have been absurdly dominant so far, shown by Halladay's 9.75/1 K:BB ratio and Lincecum's xFIP of 1.96. Yeah, I know it's early May, but an xFIP that low after 6 starts is absurd. Was it last year or the year before that Zito became San Fran's $18 million loogy? I doubt he finishes the year with below a 3.5 ERA, but he has looked much better these last two years than in his first two years with the Giants.
  12. Okay Brewers, I'm hoping I can trust this lead until the morning.
  13. My money's on Weeks. If the club can't pull one out tonight, it may be time for a Haiku game thread.
  14. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=5163285 Sad to see. Thoughts and prayers go out to those who survive him. I was born too late to listen to him, but from everything I hear, he was a true ambassador for the game, and will be dearly missed.
  15. Jason Kendall did.
  16. If Inman continues to pitch like this, I'm happy the Brewers got the draft pick compensation. He has not been good at all. Why do I think Melvin is a decent or even good GM? Because there are probably 15-20 current major league GM's I think are worse than Melvin. Yeah, he's made some mistakes, but he's made far less than most GM's have.
  17. Sheets has walked more batters this season in 27 innings (14) than he did in 2006 in 106 innings (11). FWIW, Rich Harden has walked 23 in 23.2 innings to go along with 22 K's. I'm much more confident that Davis will rebound than either of those two, as others have pointed out, his peripherals are actually quite good.
  18. Just saw his performance in the box score last night and I must say I'm impressed with his 11.1 IP 3H 4BB 22SO!!! line in AAA. Gotta figure the guy will be setting up for the Crew by this summer.
  19. 21-7 7+16+4=27 I'm bringing a little irrational exuberance to the table this month.
  20. Neither are as offensive as this one: http://india4indians.com/news/files/2010/03/mumbai-indians.jpg
  21. I gotta agree with you Briggs. I don't think there's a single player that I would give more than a 10% chance of reaching the HOF before playing a month in the majors. Yeah, he has the potential to be great, but he could also be good, mediocre, bad, or terrible.
  22. Just saw this one up on MLBTR and I was surprised to say the least. $25MM a year for a first baseman that probably won't age well is a bit of a stretch. If Fielder asks for anything near that, it would be wise let him walk.
  23. I don't know about that. Professional athletes are typically not the most humble folk; it wouldn't at all surprise me if Suppan believes he is still a #3/4 starter who has been hampered by injuries.
  24. Wait, players are stealing from owners now? Do you not see the irony with that statement? If you boo Suppan for stealing from the Brewers, you'll have to make sure to boo Attanasio as well for stealing from Escobar, Gallardo, and McGehee, and every other team controlled player on the roster.
