  1. I really wish they were allowed to show replays at the games. This time, however, for the umpire's sake, he should be happy they aren't allowed to. I can't even imagine the stream of garbage that would have hit the field.
  2. I'm sorry, but if the play is even close, you've got to call it an out, especially in a 3-0 game. That's absolutely brutal.
  3. According to the Tigers' announcers, the guy was out. Wow. I'll have to wait and see this for myself.
  4. From Haudricourt: "Miami - They just told us the game between the Brewers and Marlins is expected to start at 7 p.m. CDT. So, still plenty of time for the locals to get here. Not only are there plenty of good seats available, there are plenty of good sections available. Heck, there are plenty of good decks available. These South Floridians love their baseball." I'll admit I chuckled. This doesn't hold a candle to Uecker's comments about the fans in Florida though. After Cameron struck out, he said something along the lines of "The fans in Florida liked that call; both out of their seats cheering!"
  5. Or it could be that Escobar is probably the weakest hitter on this team.
  6. That's pretty Loe. (/zing!) I've found that I have been trying to justify these call ups as the next great thing. After four strong in Cincy, I was in love with Estrada. I guess I can let my Kameron Loe infatuation begin now.
  7. At this point, even if Hoffman threw 20 innings between now and the deadline without giving up a single run, I don't think anybody would want him unless the Brewers picked up a significant portion of his salary. I'd jump for joy if someone took the salary without even giving anything of value.
  8. He probably shouldn't plan on spending much time in Milwaukee. As bad as the bullpen has been, Bruney is pretty awful.
  9. Even if it wasn't the line drive, there's no ignoring the fact that Bush's velocity on his fastball is down 2.2 MPH since last year. As I've said before, he's toast.
  10. FWIW (and I have no clue what it's worth), according to minorleaguesplits.com, Escobar was a +11 with Nashville last year (+18/150) and a +22 with Huntsville in 2008 (+24/150). I don't think it's fair to be annoyed with the organization for hyping Escobar's defense, as most of the hype I have heard has come from Baseball America and Baseball Prospectus. I still think this guy is going to be an exceptional defender given the time. He the tools and the track record, and he has been pretty average in the field in his first 50 games (based on my own eyes and fielding metrics).
  11. I'll admit that I'm not excited about Loe, and I even prefer Estrada to him in a long relief role, but it will be interesting to see what roster moves are made to facilitate this.
  12. I don't want to get into this whole stealing money thing (seriously, if anyone is "stealing money" by this definition, the owners ought to be in prison for life), but I think it's really unfair to say that he is contradicting his religious convictions by not voluntarily walking away from the contract. Professional athletes are often a bit delusional about their abilities. For all we know, Suppan truly believes he can still be an effective pitcher, and that he would be letting down his team if he were to walk away. Yeah, he is no longer a good baseball player. I want to see him gone too, and it would be refreshing to hear him say how much he has sucked.
  13. Am I crazy, or did Bill just say that the Tigers are a small market low payroll team?
  14. Wow is Hart ever on a tear. Talk about unexpected production.
  15. I hadn't realized his batted ball splits were so bad in the minors (.83 GB/FB). However, as a spot starter or long man, I think Estrada will prove to be a bit more tolerable than Soup. I might be biased because I'm so sick of this whole Suppan debacle, but I'm hoping the Brewers make the decision to cut ties and see what some of these younger guys can do. I'm not worried about service time, as I really don't think either of Estrada or Loe will prove to be very valuable.
  16. Ennder, I'm just curious about why you're so bearish on Estrada. I'm pretty confident he can be a 4.75 - 5.00 FIP guy as a spot starter, based on his past success in the minors and decent peripherals in the majors. I just don't see how Suppan is a better option at this point.
  17. I wouldn't take him on anything more than a minor league deal. He was great from 2003-2006, but he's been terrible from 2007-2010. I always enjoyed watching the guy pitch, but I think he lost it a few years back.
  18. I'm pretty sure I predicted Hart would lead the league in HR's 2 months in a couple of posts after I predicted Hart had completely lost it and wouldn't OPS over .730 this year.http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/embarassed.gif
  19. You beat me too it. Perhaps Carlos Zambrano is Double Bastard Ale. Hoffman: Unibroue La Fin du Monde (The End of the World). Well, at least the end of the game.
  20. I don't want to see Lucroy rotting on the bench either, but the way Kottaras has been crushing the ball (or, well, leaving the lumber on his shoulder as the ball passes by four times outside the strike zone), it's hard to keep him out of the lineup. Interesting note: Kottaras has 3 singles, 7 doubles, 3 homers, and 21 walks this year. Sounds a bit like a guy I remember named Russell, without the insane strike out numbers.
  21. 14-13 2 + 3 + 4 What can I say, I'm optimistic.
  22. Hopefully Riske doesn't factor into this too much. He wasn't ever a very good pitcher, and he certainly can't provide much value to a major league team at this point. I hate to pull out the DFA card, but I don't see any value in Riske. Obviously cutting Vargas loose wouldn't be a terrible move either. They can't send down Axford; he's just been too good. They'll have to DFA a couple of Riske, Suppan, Capuano, and Vargas. I'd personally be fine with any two of Riske, Suppan, and Vargas, although admittedly my bias towards Capuano, who was always a favorite, is certainly playing into my desire to see him throw for the Crew this year, if for nothing more than a swan song.
  23. Melvin is such an idiot. Selling low on another pitcher with great potential. Seriously, this is great. Good to see Hall flashing the heat.
  24. Great effort from Yoga tonight. Here's to hoping the Brewers can win it in the bottom of the frame so Macha doesn't send him out there for the 10th.
