  1. But in all seriousness what the heck is ESPN possibly screwing up with their WAR calculation that says Willingham is worth more oWAR than Braun? Leave it up to ESPN to introduce a new statistic, calculate it incorrectly, and use it incorrectly. Colin Cowherd was on the radio trying to use WAR to say that there is no way Justin Verlander is worth $20million per season. I'm not kidding, it went something like this: - Verlander won 21 games last season. WAR tells us a replacement player probably would have won 13. But, Verlander would have probably been replaced by the number 2 guy in the rotation who would probably win 17 games, so he's really only worth 4 wins per season. Clearly, there's no way another 4 wins is worth $20 million dollars. Needless to say, he does not fully grasp baseball or WAR.
  2. Did you correct him? Edwin Jackson is actually only striking out ~7/9IP this season and only 9 of his last 15 starts have been on the road. He is a fairly hard tosser though. I guess they always say that in baseball you're successful if you go 1/3, so Bill must just be shooting for a high batting average here.
  3. Where are the Andrus rumors coming from? I haven't seen any Andrus/Greinke rumors and at this point I'd expect Andrus to have a higher trade value than Greinke.
  4. I don't know what's up with ESPN's WAR but that's pretty silly. fWAR has Braun at 5.4, Willingham 3.7, and Braun leads in oWAR by about 1 WAR.
  5. It's about time. As far as I'm concerned, put everybody who will be a FA next year on the block, along with Kottaras. K-Rod for salary relief, Wolf for salary relief (even if it takes paying half of Wolf's salary and 75% of K-Rod's), Kottaras for a mediocre prospect, Greinke for a good haul, Izturis for a nothing. Trade Aramis if a good deal comes along. I'd rather they keep Hart and Weeks but if they are really impressed with a package Melvin should obviously act. In short, sell it all.
  6. K-Rod needs a new nickname. Suggestions are welcome. DFA-Rod BB-Rod Francisco Turnbow
  7. Did Ron Roenicke seriously just call that bunt? He just can't leave soon enough...
  8. Kenny Williams has been known to do some silly things though, right? I'm not intrigued by really any of their prospects, but if they gave us a big ol' box of goodies I might be okay with that.
  9. The last couple of days have went really well for the Brewers. Looks like we might just have a good ol' fashioned bidding war for Greinke!
  10. I don't really want Dee Gordon, but his value is really low right now so if he's in a deal I'm not going to complain. He can't get on base, he doesn't hit for power, and he doesn't field well. But, if he's basically just thrown into the package I'd be willing to see if he can get it together, because he did have a decent MiLB track record.
  11. Do they plan on putting Hanley at 3B or SS (replacing Gordon) though? My initial reaction to the Hanley trade was that they'd no longer be in the market for Aramis.
  12. Here's the difference between CC, Prince, and Greinke: I wanted CC and Prince at 5 years/100 million. I don't want Greinke at anything over 5 years/100 million or so. Just trade him to a contender and get over with it. There has to be a team willing to part with a couple of solid chips for three months of Greinke and a WS run. Texas, I'm looking at you!
  13. I disagree! Rabble rabble rabble. I'm curious what type of contract Dempster might be in line for at the end of this season. Might he be a guy the Brewers consider on a 1-2 year deal if the price is right?
  14. [sarcasm]I didn't realize AAA teams could make trades with MLB teams.[/sarcasm]
  15. The Yankees also will be getting "Cash Considerations". I'm not really sure why they wanted Ichiro in the first place, but I suppose it will at least be a novelty. Ichiro now has 3,811 hits between NPB and MLB. I'm kind of hoping he can last long enough to have 3,000 in MLB and end his career well north of the 4,000 mark.
  16. Weeks' batting line in June-July is still about .235/.325/.400. Not the Rickie Weeks we've been accustomed to over the past two seasons, but still a better than average batting line.
  17. I think this deal is beneficial for both teams, as is the case more often than not. Delgado's ceiling is probably more as a 2/3 just looking at his profile, but even if he ends up as a dependable back of the rotation guy, it's a pretty good return for half a season of Ryan Dempster pitching out the string.
  18. Haven't we looked into this multiple times and found that the Brewers' offense is no more "streaky" than other teams? Offense in baseball is, in general, fairly "boom or bust" to the observer.
  19. We have a few small operations opening down here soon that I'm pretty excited about. One nano in Carrboro has just begun selling to local bars, and there's another micro in Carrboro that should open around September. Haw River Farmhouse Ales is opening late in the year in Saxapahaw, NC, about 25 minutes West of Chapel Hill. They're obviously going to specialize in Farmhouse Ales from northern France and Belgium, which I'm really excited about because Saison is one of my favorite styles. Right now they're working on a Saison with Sorachi Ace hops, black tea, and Meyer lemon. I've tried that hop once, in Brooklyn's Sorachi Ace, and it has a very distinct lemon/black tea flavor.
  20. I wish the umpires had the discretion to rule a Yadier Molina "ground rule double" as a single.
  21. I think the entire league is hitting about .140 off him this year, so I would say most definitely yes he can. That's his career line. It's .117 this year. He has to be the most dominant pitcher in the league this season. Maybe Kimbrel. I can't imagine Aoki ever saw anybody like Chapman in NPB!
  22. When I flew back from Wisconsin to NC, I had 12 Dancing Man Wheats and a bunch of diapers that I needed to fit in my checked bag. I wrapped the diapers around the beer for protection and if needed, absorption. TSA checked my bag and opened every single diaper, but luckily they put them back on fairly well so none of the beer broke.
  23. If it has been produced in the last decade, it's at Woodman's. I actually recall seeing a five year old bottle of DFH 120 minute IIPA on the shelf there. Boy must that be a stale IIPA! Jolly Good Soda takes me back to elementary school, when it was almost always the soda provided for field trips, probably because of the price. We didn't drink a lot of soda at home but I loved getting Jolly Good Grape Soda when I would be at a friend's house.
