  1. This really makes me think of how far this Brewers' staff has come in the last two years. Yovani Gallardo----------->Yovani Gallardo Manny Parra-------------->Zach Greinke David Bush----------------> Shawn Marcum Braden Looper-----------> Randy Wolf Jeff Suppan---------------> Chris Narveson
  2. ^ I can top that. I once managed to stuff an entire hot dog into a bratwurst and then wrapped it in bacon and topped it with cheddar cheese and potato salad. Needless to say, it was horrendously bad.
  3. 1. Chorizo stuffed bacon-wrapped dates. 2. Alton Brown's hot wings. 3. Meat in tube form. 4. A tray with relish. And of course, an epic beer selection.
  4. I quite like fish tacos, but there's no way I'd ever order them at a baseball game. Ballparks should stick to foods that can be easily prepared and can stand to wait around for a while before being eaten. Something about the idea of stale tortillas and lukewarm tilapia doesn't sound too exciting to me. I'd like the idea of a four-pack of mini sausages in buns. Chorizo, Italian, Polish, and Bratwurst all in little buns with the proper accompaniments. Better yet, replace the Polish with smoked Andouille... Mmmm...meat in tube form...
  5. I think some people have looked into this lately, and found that it's actually even younger (like 26-28). I can't give a link, but perhaps somebody else can.
  6. 1) Game 162. Need I say more? 2) Every home game I've attended against the Cubs.
  7. I will jump for joy if the Cubs sign Prince Fielder to an 8 year, $200 million deal. That type of deal is a disaster waiting to happen for an NL club.
  8. Where does this rank on the list of worst recent trades? This is absolutely horrendous. Napoli may well be just as valuable as Wells over the next couple years, even if his defense is as brutal as some say. Rivera probably isn't worth his $5.25 million next year, but seriously??? This is absolutely asinine, if true. On a side note, the Jays seem to be pretty awesome at unloading their bad contracts. First Alex Rios and now Vernon Wells. I'm thinking a Mike Trout for Randy Wolf trade sounds pretty good right now.
  9. I'm happy with that deal for Loe. He should be a very dependable guy out of the pen this year. Oh, and one thing - Does McCalvy really need to tell us that the midpoint of $5 million and $3 million is $4 million? :/End rant.
  10. Zobrist-Upton-Damon outfield? That's quite a downgrade defensively from having Crawford, although I s'pose that goes without saying. I'm obviously assuming Manny will DH. That seems like a pretty good way to spend $2MM for the Rays.
  11. It's really impossible to say anything about this deal until we know how much cash changed hands. I will most likely laugh hysterically if the Angels aren't getting a huge amount of cash from the Jays.
  12. http://www.mlbtraderumors...-to-sign-nick-punto.html That's one more guy that won't be replacing Yuniesky.
  13. I would be the world champion of knowing an episode of The Simpsons within 15 seconds of turning it on.
  14. Briggs, that's pretty cool that you were at that game. I think I get what you mean about County Stadium vs. Miller Park. So far, my favorite stadium to enjoy a ball game at has been The Ballpark at Arlington, bar none. It's just an older style ballpark where people watch the game. When I saw the thread, I immediately thought of the Balk-off. I wonder who many times that's happened? Perhaps more often than one would expect.
  15. Are you kidding me molitor fan? This guy is pure comedy!
  16. The reason Parra is getting a 300% raise is that he was subjected to a reserve clause for the past three years. Many of those receiving corporate mandated paycuts are still receiving a higher percentage of their market value than arbitration eligible players.
  17. Cubs receive Graham Hicks, a 20 year old lefty starter who has put up some decent numbers in low A, as well as A.J. Morris, a 24 year old starter who put up around a 3.6 FIP in 70 or so A+ innings last year, and Michael Burgess, who OPS'd just under .800 in 400 AA at bats last year. I can't give more of a scouting report than that, so maybe someone else here can.
  18. That was my reaction as well. If it's laid out as $9, $12, $17 or something like that, it seems like they certainly wouldn't have ended up paying much more going year to year. It would have been interesting to see how much Votto would have gotten for an FA year, to compare with Fielder. Going forward, I think Votto is a much better ballplayer than Fielder.
  19. That was so long ago I had forgotten Balfour was out of options. It's really too bad they lost him, though. Could have saved them quite a few bucks over the course of his years in MKE. If I were a reliever, I'd be pretty annoyed by the type a compensation. It really screws relievers who qualify to be type a. I wonder if a reliever actually has a monetary incentive to give up 10 runs in an inning at some point to drop out of type a...
  20. Anybody have an idea of the numbers being thrown around right now? I hate the Cubs as much as anyone here, but unless Fielder is willing to take a big discount to stay in the NL, the Cubs will probably have to overpay for him. As a player with a bad glove and a weight problem, who will probably be 27-33 over the course of his next contract, he would be much more valuable to an AL club. If the Cubs are dumb enough to give Fielder Teixera or near-Teixera money (like 7/$150 or 8/$160), I'm not going to be heart-broken. Of course it would absolutely suck to watch Prince in a Cubs uni, but if it means the Cubs handcuffing themselves down the road a few years, it might be worth it.
  21. 1. Zach Greinke. 2. Yovani Gallardo. 3. Shaun Marcum. That is all.
  22. One thing about Garza that I think is worth mentioning: The Rays had a team UZR of 147 from 2008-2010. The Cubs should be below average defensively. While the Brewers' defense is worse than Toronto's, I don't think the difference between the Crew and the Jays is as great as the difference between the Rays and the Cubs.
  23. This definitely hurts the Brewers' chances this year, even if the Cubs still are probably projected in 4th. I'm not too annoyed though; Garza is a good pitcher but he's no better than Marcum. In this division, he probably projects to put up about a 3.75 - 4.00 ERA. The Cubs gave up this guy: Hammered the ball in AA last year, but he is 24 and an OF. http://www.fangraphs.com/...rid=sa389915&position=OF and this guy: Looks like a solid starting pitching prospect, but nothing too special. http://www.fangraphs.com/...erid=sa326752&position=P and this guy: Hak-Ju Lee: Fell off after being named #4 prospect by Fangraphs in 2009. http://www.fangraphs.com/...rid=sa502536&position=SS I'd never heard of Chirinos, but I wouldn't mind having that guy in our system. All in all, this looks like a pretty fair trade to me. It will be interesting to see how much Garza gets this year, as I believe the Cubs are already stretched pretty thin.
  24. Yuniesky Betancourt hits something like .360/.390/.580/.970, and isn't a complete disaster in the field. Brewerfan will then split into two rival message boards, as the Yuni fans will decide to secede.
