  1. At this point, I agree that Gindl>Kotsay, but what makes you think Gindl>Morgan?
  2. They certainly pitch different players differently, but it does not seem to lead to each player being more or less productive. For reference, take a gander at this: http://jse.sagepub.com/content/9/2/211.abstract. "Using play-by-play data the authors find evidence contrary to the protection hypothesis—the quality of the on-deck hitter negatively impacts the preceding hitter—though the magnitude of the effect is very small". Edit: I just realized that article may be a pain to get a hold of. Oh well.
  3. I don't think they'll be better, but I think people overestimate how valuable he is to this club. He is a great hitter, but he is only a good player. The bottom line is he's a very bad defensive first baseman, and his production won't be as difficult to replace (or nearly replace) as many think. It won't break my heart when Prince leaves, so long as he doesn't sign a team-friendly deal with a rival.
  4. Morgan failed to be a grizzled veteran. If he had more willpower he may have been able to motivate Betancourt into having a better plate approach in the 9th.
  5. That hardly proves Braun doesn't hit as well when Prince isn't behind him. He had what, 150 plate appearances in the 3-hole last year? More likely he just had a rough month. Again, there's pretty strong evidence out there that the effects of "protection" are pretty minimal.
  6. I agree that Morgan > Gomez at this point. Also, as long as Weeks doesn't mind, I'm all for moving him down in the order. If he doesn't want to move down though, I wouldn't fight it too hard. And I don't see what's wrong with a strict platoon of Counsell and Betancourt. I still believe Mat Gamel could provide the Brewers as much value at SS as Betancourt.
  7. Ouch. This is becoming epicly frustrating. Gomez has been brutal. YuniesKy has been brutal. Kotsay is worthless. I'm not going to go into disaster mode four games into the season. Unfortunately, the guys who have been terrible will continue to be terrible, and we know this. How long will it take for Betancourt to be placed on the bench and Kotsay on waivers?
  8. The only thing Kotsay matches up well with is the back seat on the bus to Nashville. Roenicke is already driving this board to wits end! He could be going for a record.
  9. Just chiming in. Trying to keep things positive, and looking towards the future, I'd love to see: Weeks McGehee Braun Fielder Hart Morgan (vs. R) / Lucroy (vs. L) Gomez (vs. L) / Lucroy (vs. R) Counsell (vs. R) / Betancourt (vs. L)
  10. I'm willing to bet right now that within the next month many will be calling for Roenicke to be gone. I'm getting really frustrated as it is, and it has only been three games. Gomez in the 2 hole is horrendous. Morgan probably makes more sense there. Why has Nieves gotten 3 starts so far? Anybody have rough estimates on when Hart and Lucroy are back? I'm officially in baseball season mode and I'm desperate for some good news.
  11. From what I've heard, the appendix bowed, said thank you, and tipped the surgeon generously after it was removed.
  12. ^Yeah, from what I've heard it can be pretty painful if it actually bursts, so it's not a surprise that Hart missed nearly a month. With the Cardinals getting as beat up as they are, I really hope the Brewers can weather the storm of April.
  13. I'd be surprised if he is out longer than 2 weeks. Actually, my wife had an appendectomy last week. It wasn't fun, but really it isn't too terrible as long as there aren't complications.
  14. http://twitter.com/humblebrag Call out accepted.
  15. This is epicly weak sauce. I'm in Hawaii right now, and it's only 9:43 PM on March 31. Not cool.
  16. Ouch. Just got back from golfing to hear about this. Well, let's hope the next 161 games are better.
  17. Well, I'm two beers into my Hawaii trip so far and I'm actually a bit disappointed. I had Kona's Koko Brown, a brown ale with coconut the other night, and it was just okay, but it had a bit of a sicky sweet coconut domination going on. The one beer I was really excited to try due to the rave reviews it had gotten is Maui's Coconut Porter. The flavors were quite nice, but it was overcarbonated to such a level that it was a bit difficult to enjoy. I have very high hopes for their Big Swell IPA and their basic lager as well. I'm not a big drinker of lighter lagers (who is these days?) but sitting out on the beach I figure it might be pretty darn tasty.
  18. Don't be surprised if Kotsay's the backup CF right now. I'm really hoping that's not the case, as he's probably a worse CF at this point than Betancourt is a shortstop. Can Boggs play CF? He only has 20 innings there in the majors, but I don't know how much he has played there in the minors. It is amazing how much better this team could have been with $5 million cleverly spent by Doug Melvin. I have no problem with Mitre as the 5th starter for 4-5 starts. I just really wonder whether it was worth Chris Dickerson to replace five Marco Estrada starts with five Sergio Mitre starts. My gut says it wasn't.
  19. I wouldn't actually mind that. He's a year removed from a stellar season and is a far better option than Kotsay, although he is a bit of a headcase.
  20. I'm assuming that confirms Kotsay will make the team. Oh joy.
  21. Some "scouts" also thought the Kansas City Royals would make the world series in 2009, because apparently they were already the next Tampa Bay Rays. Without knowing who these scouts are, it's pretty tough to take this comment seriously.
  22. Woah, settle down there!
  23. Vernon Macklin is shooting 46% from the line this year. How is that possible? The guy went 12/48 three years ago from the line! Seriously, I could probably shoot 25% with one arm, no joke.
  24. Ouch. Hopefully he gets better soon. If he is out for a significant amount of time, at least we'll finally get to see what Gamel can do.
