  1. If it's priced like last year ($15 for audio, $5 additional for at-bat), I'd go for it. I've never used it on a smart phone, but last year you got a couple different views on gameday and a few more stats.
  2. I'd just about forgotten about Brendan Katin. I wonder if he can make a case for a reserve outfielder role (over Kotsay) if he kills the ball this spring.
  3. Thanks to Jody Gerut, we will no longer have to see Chad Moeller's name on FSN every time a player is a triple away from the cycle. For that, I am forever grateful. I hadn't realized Gerut was 33 years old. I guess this isn't terribly surprising. Moeller signed a minor league deal with the Rockies in January. Last year he played for the Yankees in AAA, and got 15 AB's for the big club. He has yet to hit another cycle.
  4. Well yeah. I just prefer this method of putting lipstick on a pig.
  5. How about: "Yuniesky has struggled a bit over the past couple years, but he has gotten himself into great shape and he's been working on his footwork. He has a lot of natural talent and I'm expecting him to be a strong defender this season."
  6. Meat Salad is at 29%, while Chicks with Sticks is at 32%. For the love of humanity, everybody here needs to go vote for that Meat Salad. Mods, you ought to create a sticky that pops up in flashing letters with explosions and fireworks to direct people to that site to vote for the Meat Salad. Now. Go.
  7. Color me far more concerned about Rogers than Lucroy. Something about this tells me it could get ugly.
  8. Yeah, I think it was the Padres. I'm not sure he's healthy either. I was just pointlessly speculating.
  9. If I'm the Brewers, I'm going to let the guy take his time and heal the hand. Let him catch a few BP sessions if they see it fit. Lucroy out for two weeks at the start of the season isn't going to have too large of an effect on the Brewers' season. I must say, a healthy Gregg Zaun at a couple million bucks sounds great right about now.
  10. ^Just heard that as well. This has to knock 5-6 wins off the Cardinals record. Man, what brutal news for a Cardinals fan.
  11. That album may just be better than "Basketball's Best Kept Secret" From FG: Track 9: "Where I Hit in the Batting Order" "As Hard as I Can" (Single)
  12. I can't decide if this is worth $2.99 as a gag gift. http://cdn2-b.examiner.com/sites/default/files/styles/mobile_rss/hash/48/ab/48ab3ba0f1cabaa30a1052af288d3eb5.jpg
  13. I don't understand the uproar. Some people hate fame. Greinke seems to be one of them. It's not like he said he enjoys kicking children and running over puppies. The guy speaks his mind. I'm sure a lot of players feel this way.
  14. On a related note, Derek Jeter was somewhat disappointed by his Corned Beef on Rye today. Joba ate a bucket of fried chicken, extra crispy.
  15. ^ They use Total Zone on Baseball-Reference.com, and they don't adjust for position. FWIW, I'm big on defensive metrics, and I really don't think BR's defensive WAR tells a good story.
  16. Where did you find this info? Fangraphs has Pujols about 20th in UZR in 2008. Don't forget that metrics like UZR compare first baseman to league average first baseman. A +10 at 1B is significantly less impressive than a +5 at SS.
  17. Weeks is an absolute beast of a man. McGehee looks a bit fitter, although that's not saying much.
  18. Fielder must know that if he comes to camp fat(ter) and posts a <4 WAR season there's no way he'll be getting even $150MM. I'm betting Prince is smart enough to show up to camp in great shape this year.
  19. ^ At this point, I don't think he'll develop much more at 3B. He's 26 years old, and he may well have already peaked defensively. At this point, we have to start thinking about accepting his role as a good bat/weak fielding utility player, and perhaps he'll surprise us.
  20. Here's what I'm hoping for: The Brewers realize Kotsay is essentially worthless. Melvin decides to have Gamel continue to work at 3B, but gives him some work at corner outfield positions as well. He spends the first month of the season starting in the outfield for Nashville, which he learns surprisingly quickly, and plays a few games at 3B as well. After a month of watching Kotsay make Yuniesky look good, Melvin releases Kotsay and brings Mat up to the big leagues. Mat starts 2-3 games each week at 3B, 1B, LF, and RF, and gets 2-3 PH appearances per week. The guy's about to turn 26. There's no reason to be waiting around for this guy to reach his prime anymore. At this point, the Brewers are probably better off using him off the bench or dealing him (and letting him accrue service time) than letting him rot in the minors for another year.
  21. Doubt it. Since the majority of the Hispanic players are not really from Mexico most of the Hispanic players are from places like the Dominican. The Dominican Republic and Mexico are completely different cultures to make a comparison it would be like saying someone from Texas is the same as someone from New York. I'm hard-pressed to believe the cultural difference between Santo Domingo and Mexico City is greater than the cultural difference between Santo Domingo and say, Seattle or Milwaukee. That said, the cultural difference between Havana and Miami is probably less than the difference between Havana and Monterrey.
  22. Fun article, but I think the author is a bit optimistic thinking Yovani could crack 30 HR's in a full season! I'd peg Gallardo for a line of .200/.250/.400 over the course of the season, with 15 HR's.
  23. Breakout: Shaun Marcum will throw 180 innings of 3.50 ERA ball. Disappointment: Zack Greinke will throw 180 innings of 3.50 ERA ball.
