  1. No. A team can trade a rule 5 player to another team and that new team takes on the rule 5 restrictions. So we have a player, lets call him 5. Team B drafts 5 from team A. Team B can trade 5 to team C, team C can be any team including team A, and they will be forced to follow the rule 5 restrictions. It appears then that if no one wants to trade for 5 and team B doesn't want to keep him on the 25 anymore, 5 must go through waivers and if he isn't claimed then team B can try to work out a trade with A to keep him and put him in thwir minors, team A takes him back, or team A just lets team B keep him.
  2. This only pertains to the brewers trading him to another team, not the brewers trading someone to the pirates so we can keep wang without the rule 5 stipulations and send him down to onthe minors. With the waivers issue, there sems to be some confusion. There were 2 articles posted that seem to contradict each other. http://www.thecubreporter.com/book/export/html/3517 This one says a player must pass through waivers. http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/minorleagues/rule_5.jsp?mc=faq This one, which is actually an faq, is a little more vague. Does this mean he then has to go through waivers or are they saying he can be placed in the minors now? Way to not be clear. Then there is the story about dickys rule 5 experience http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20080329&content_id=2464940&vkey=news_mlb&c_id=mlb&fext=.jsp which states specifically that he went through waivers before the trade happened which allowed the Ms to keep him. It doesn't really say if he had to go through waivers or if he was going through and the idea of a trade was broached and then not finalized till he was through by coincidence. So basicly, there isn't really a clear answer, but the evidence seems to suggest waivers needs to happen before the brewers could send him to the minors, either through trade with the pirates or pirates not wanting him back. Each of these links have appeared in the thread previously, kudos to those who did the leg work to find them.
  3. As long as the brewers win the division I will be happy if no central team gets a wild card. Especially the cards!
  4. I think the reason the waivers thing doesnt come up when talking about the rule 5 is because its usually bad teams the claim them to begin with and if not even they want to a full season with the guy, nobody would. Wang is kind of a special case. We were expected to be bad, but we aren't, sometimes. We picked 11th, so its not like every other team passed on him. Only 4 teams ahead of us didnt take a player. Im willing to bet most teams just dismissed him out of hand because either they didn't have much info on him or because he was in the lower levels. But now that we have done most of the leg work and teams have gotten a good look at him some of those teams have changed their minds and would love to have him, even if it means having him in the majors this season. With how desperate we are for upside in our system I hope we keep him. Even if we dont make the playoffs or he doesn't turn out to be anything, I will be glad they tried to think about the distant future for once and take a chance.
  5. It was 2 weeks since he last pitched in a game. How sharp can he be expected to be in that situation. Its starting to become a self fulfilling prophecy. Also, based on his pattern, his next outing will be scoreless.
  6. Gomez is a late scratch, still with the back, Herrera leading off seggy 6 and Schafer 7 in CF
  7. Its not like that cant be changed though. The white sox arent forced to play all those day games.
  8. Is it too late for gomez to rescind the appeal? If hes gonna be out a few days anyway, might as well get the suspension out of the way at the same time.
  9. They'll probably wait a week to see if some rest will fix it without a DL stint
  10. I have today and tomorrow off. I don't have mlb network, and dont know if i would be blacked out if i did anyway, so no brewer games for me on tv this week.
  11. He took batting practice today and Ron said he should be ready for Tuesday.
  12. Ive never considered what order I would show my kids the movies in someday, but the machete order sounds very intriguing and is probably what I will do. I would probably not read that link if you dont want spoilers, but it is 4, 5, 2, 3, and then 6. And then treat one like a movie in the universe that doesn't add to the story being told in 2-6.
  13. Those stats only show what happens after you got to that point. It doesn't factor in getting to that point. So it can only include successful sac attempts, and the rare fail where the guy still gets to third via stolen base, wild pitch, etc. A study focusing on sac vs no sac would be very interesting.
  14. Just because something is without precedent doesn't make it wrong or stupid to try. Being without precedence just means it hasnt been done before. Yes this is a gamble. But, at least so far, it hasn't cost us anything. And when you are bad at acquiring talent one way, sometimes you need to get creative in other ways. And speaking of precedent, when was the last time a lefty with a mid 90s fastball even been eligable for the rule 5. Im sure it doesn't happen all that often and certainly not at Wang's age or with his command.
  15. 5 innings. Could that be the fastest cycle ever?
  16. We need more batters whos names end in yle. They are just so clutch.
  17. I think I have something like that in my lease as well. I believe I have to show a receipt from a professional carpet cleaning place.
  18. I work second shift mostly, so any day where a brewer day off coincides with one of my days off is the worst. Like today Most days I get lucky to catch the end of the pregame show on my way in at 1 or the end of the game/post game show on my way home when I'm done at 10.
  19. Sedar was trying to get Cole moving along. I dont mind what Gomez does at all. I'm all for fun playing a game.
  20. I know what you mean. Yesterday on brauns double his call went like this, braun with a fly ball to right...tabata on the warning track...and he has to play it off the wall. Braun hustles safely into second. Same level the entire time with a slight uptick when braun made it to second.
  21. Im glad the Brewers were able to pull out this game. Its a nice birthday present whenever they win.
  22. Me. I dont mind them, but prefer the new ones.
  23. With how fast they were leaving after brauns triple, I dont think there are enough of them left to boo.
  24. The whole winning on opening days thing is a coincidence. We are actually just awesome at winning the opening game of a series and wont lose one all year. Bodes well for any one game playoffs we may end up in.
