  1. My only complaint on roster is Kjeldgaard instead of Cameron Garfield. Otherwise, I'm pretty stoked those guys going.
  2. I just wonder if it's a money issue that could make the situation better. I've always been a huge fan of spending a lot in development. Down the road you'd save a little money with cost effective (I meant to phrase this better but I lost the words as soon as I started typing).
  3. I think next year is going to be a lot of fun to follow. Can't wait for Gian Rizzo, Jorge Ortega and Orlando Arcia to get significant playing time in the states.
  4. Hector Gomez isn't really depth at the moment. He's 24 and hitting .105 with a .179 OBP at Brevard. I don't think there is anything there.
  5. I think the other big thing for Hunter is that he is walking for a better clip. Not great, but there is improvement.
  6. Benji, I think for Morris it is a matter of him driving the ball. I've been paying attention but he isn't hitting seeing eye grounders from what I've been noticing.
  7. Bieder, it's funny that you bring that up because a lot of guys seem to be doing that as well (starting cold and heating up). Just look at Adam Giacalone is another example of that in Helena.
  8. The Brewers lead all of baseball in strikeouts. http://espn.go.com/mlb/stats/team/_/stat/pitching/sort/strikeouts/order/true
  9. [sarcasm]We are in a pennant race, you can't bring the youngens up. Blasphemy[/sarcasm]
  10. AZL Padres 8, AZL Brewers 2 Arizona Box Score It was a matchup of newly drafted high schoolers as Zach Quintana took on 1st rounder Max Fried. Quintana was cruising until the third inning when it came apart, resulting in his worst outing so far as a pro (3IP 5H 4ER 2BB 2K). Ryan Fasano was okay (2IP 3H 1ER 3K). Daniel Keller had his best outing of the year (4IP 6H 3ER 2K); very disappointing this year. Defensively, both middle infielders, Ortega and Jenkins, had an error but had no bearing on the outcome of the game. The bad A-Crew offense showed up today as they had one hit. The surprising Malcolm Dowell had the only baseball knock. His average this year is now .333. Clint Coulter, Jose Pena, Dustin Houle (2) got on base as well with walks. A-Crew PbP Zach Quintana's problem inning AZL Padres Top of the 3rd • Anthony Renteria strikes out swinging. • Felipe Blanco singles on a pop up to second baseman Renaldo Jenkins. • Edwin Moreno singles on a ground ball to center fielder Edgardo Rivera. Felipe Blanco to 2nd. • Fernando Perez doubles (2) on a fly ball to right fielder Jose Pena. Felipe Blanco scores. Edwin Moreno to 3rd. • Jaff Decker walks. • Luis Tejada singles on a line drive to right fielder Jose Pena. Edwin Moreno scores. Fernando Perez scores. Jaff Decker to 3rd. • Rodney Daal walks. Luis Tejada to 2nd. • Henry Charles grounds into a force out, second baseman Renaldo Jenkins to shortstop Angel Ortega. Jaff Decker scores. Luis Tejada to 3rd. Rodney Daal out at 2nd. Henry Charles to 1st. • Adam Ford grounds out, pitcher Zachary Quintana to first baseman Jalen Harris.
  11. Wow Jungmann gave up 13 singles today. That's ridiculous.
  12. If the Helena guys are in Wisconsin next year, they are going to be the most fun team to watch. At least that order is going to be fun to watch.
  13. Dang it. Didn't look. Well the offer is still on the table for tomorrow.
  14. AZL Brewers 14, AZL Diamondbacks 7 Arizona Box Score Daniel Keller made the start tonight and he was the only A-Crew pitcher who didn't have a good performance. Austin Blaski replaced and went 1 1/3 giving up one walk and a strikeout. Zach Quintana came in and pitched 3 scoreless innings to finish the game and get the win. He had 6 strikeouts to go with 1 walk. Defensively, there were no errors or passed balls. Offensively, the A-Crew had their best showing of the year as they pounded out 14 hits and drew 6 walks. Doing the brunt of the damage was Tyrone Taylor, Taylor Smith-Brennan, Jalen Harris and Malcolm Dowell. All had multiple RBI's and got on base at least twice. Taylor (2) and Dowell also stole bases. Jose Pena continued his hot hitting ways with two more hits and his first stateside walk. Clint Coulter continued his rough start to his pro career by going 0-5 with 3 strikeouts and the getting-healthier Khris Davis had a hit and a walk in 6 trips to the plate. Middle IF Jose Sermo and Renaldo Jenkins also had 2 hits apiece. A-Crew PbP Zach Quintana's dominance to get the win AZL D-backs Bottom of the 7th Pitcher Change: Zachary Quintana replaces Austin Blaski. Andrew Velazquez flies out to left fielder Khris Davis. Brian Billigen strikes out swinging. Zachary Jones grounds out, second baseman Jose Sermo to first baseman Jalen Harris. AZL D-backs Bottom of the 8th Stryker Trahan walks. Jose Munoz strikes out swinging. Wild pitch by pitcher Zachary Quintana. Stryker Trahan to 2nd. Alex Glenn strikes out swinging. Ryan Fuller strikes out swinging. AZL D-backs Bottom of the 9th Jake Williams strikes out swinging, catcher Clint Coulter to first baseman Jalen Harris. Chuck Taylor grounds out, shortstop Renaldo Jenkins to first baseman Jalen Harris. Offensive Substitution: Pinch hitter Bubu Garcia replaces Andrew Velazquez. Bubu Garcia strikes out swinging.
  15. AZL Dodgers 4, AZL Brewers 1 Arizona Box Score Maverick Lasker made his second appearance of the year and fared pretty well. He went 2 innings gave up 2 hits and struck out 1. Jorge Lopez then replaced and went 4 2/3, giving up 5 hits, 2 walks and 4 runs (the only runs of the game). Undrafted FA Ryan Fasano came in and got the last out of the 7th inning. Defensively, there were no errors or passed balls. In fact, the defense was quite good. 3 double plays and Jose Pena gunned someone down at home plate. Offensively, the A-Crew struggled though as a team they only had 5 strikeouts. Pena had another hit to run his hit streak to 4 games. The recovering Khris Davis had a hit to go with 2 strikeouts. Angel Ortega and Malcolm Dowell both added base hits. A-Crew PbP Really the only half inning that was interesting AZL Dodgers Bottom of the 7th John Sgromolo walks. Bladimir Franco grounds into double play, third baseman Jalen Harris to second baseman Jose Sermo to first baseman Alan Sharkey. John Sgromolo out at 2nd. Cory Embree singles on a ground ball to center fielder Malcolm Dowell. Jacob Scavuzzo doubles (1) on a line drive to left fielder Khris Davis. Cory Embree scores. Stefan Jarrin hit by pitch. Pitcher Change: Ryan Fasano replaces Jorge Lopez. With Jesmuel Valentin batting, wild pitch by Ryan Fasano, Jacob Scavuzzo to 3rd. Stefan Jarrin to 2nd. Jesmuel Valentin walks. Wild pitch by pitcher Ryan Fasano. Jacob Scavuzzo scores. Stefan Jarrin to 3rd. With Paul Hoenecke batting, Stefan Jarrin caught stealing home, catcher Dustin Houle to shortstop Angel Ortega to catcher Dustin Houle.
  16. Bieder, I just wanted to point that Gagnon just turned 22. He's not "23-24." Also wanted to say that Bradley and Jungmann haven't even been signed in our system for one calendar year and some are already writing them off. I don't really understand that. As for upside picks last year, they picked a pretty good one in Jorge Lopez but people tend to put blinders on things that don't fit their argument.
  17. AZL Athletics 12, AZL Brewers 6 Arizona Box Score Juan Francisco didn't have a good start. Sure he had 5 strikeouts in 3.1 innings. The rest of his line wasn't a good. He gave up 9 base runners and 6 runs (5 earned). Undrafted FA Ryan Fasano came in and got the last two outs of the 4th inning. Alejandro Lavandero pitched much better in his second professional appearance but still has a ways to go. His final line was 2IP 2 hits 1ER 2BB and one strikeout. Jonathan Armold was the losing pitcher, you can see his ninth inning down below. Just like yesterday, the defense didn't really come to the rescue of the pitchers as there were 4 errors. Clint Coulter definitely has not shown that he can stick behind the plate to this point. The offense was definitely aided by the recovering Khris Davis who hit 2 homers to go with three RBI's in his first rehab game. Jose Pena continues to swing a hot bat as he had 2 hits, including a inside-the-park homer in the bottom of the 4th. Malcolm Dowell replaced Davis in the top of the sixth and had 2 singles of his own and a stolen base. Angel Ortega also had 2 hits and a stolen base. A-Crew PbP The A-Athletics blew the game open in the top of 9th AZL Athletics Top of the 9th Vicmal De La Cruz flies out to center fielder Dionis Hinojosa. Daniel Robertson walks. Reynaldo Mateo singles on a line drive to center fielder Dionis Hinojosa. Daniel Robertson to 3rd. Michael Soto doubles (5) on a fly ball to center fielder Dionis Hinojosa. Daniel Robertson scores. Reynaldo Mateo to 3rd. Ryan Mathews reaches on a fielder's choice, fielded by second baseman Renaldo Jenkins. Reynaldo Mateo scores. Michael Soto to 3rd. Throwing error by second baseman Renaldo Jenkins. Addison Russell strikes out swinging. Pitcher Change: Carlos Sosa replaces Jonathan Armold. Offensive Substitution: Pinch hitter Matthew Olson replaces Hiram Martinez. Matthew Olson homers (3) on a fly ball to right field. Michael Soto scores. Ryan Mathews scores. Shawn Duinkerk grounds out, first baseman Jalen Harris to pitcher Carlos Sosa.
  18. AZL Reds 8, AZL Brewers 7 Arizona Box Score This game was a little frustrating because it seemed like the pitching was serviceable, however the defense let them down. Joel Dicent had a decent start, going 5 innings giving up 4 hits, 3 walks and 3 runs (2 earned). Anthony Banda had a line you really only see in the AZL or the DSL (2.1 IP, 2 hits, 4R, 0ER, 2 walks, 1 strikeout). Undrafted FA Taylor Mangum came into the game in the top of the 8th was runners on 1st and 2nd and allow both inherited runners to score. 1B Alan Sharkey had 2 errors (giving him five for the season) and SS Renaldo Jenkins had his 3rd of the year. The offense wasn't too bad as every player got on base at least once. Tyrone Taylor had his first professional extra base hit (though he still hasn't taken a walk). Dustin Houle Jose Pena andMalcolm Dowell all had 2 hits. A-Crew PbP The key inning for the young Reds. A-Crew had a three run lead going into the top of the 8th AZL Reds Top of the 8th Jonathan Reynoso singles on a ground ball to right fielder Jose Pena. With Wilfrel Estevez batting, Jonathan Reynoso steals (3) 2nd base. Wilfrel Estevez called out on strikes. Argenis Aldazoro reaches on fielding error by first baseman Alan Sharkey. Jonathan Reynoso scores. Avain Rachal walks. Argenis Aldazoro to 2nd. Pitcher Change: Taylor Mangum replaces Anthony Banda. Julio Morillo flies out to center fielder Dionis Hinojosa. Ty Washington singles on a ground ball to center fielder Dionis Hinojosa. Argenis Aldazoro scores. Avain Rachal to 2nd. Ronald Bueno singles on a ground ball to left fielder Malcolm Dowell. Avain Rachal scores. Ty Washington to 2nd. Tanner Rahier strikes out swinging.
  19. I should be able to do the A-Crew game tonight. Got into Wisconsin yesterday morning I had a lot of sleep to catch up on. I did the drive from San Diego to the Milwaukee area in 33 hours, stops included. Thanks for the help when I was out.
  20. AZL Diamondbacks 22, AZL Brewers 6 Arizona Box Score Well one of the worst pitching and defensive displays you'll see. 28 hits, 5 walks, 8 wild pitches and an HBP split between 4 pitchers (Juan Fransisco, Alejandro Lavandero, Jonathan Armold and Jeffrey Saba). 1st rounder Clint Coulter had 2 passed balls, giving him 4 already just four games in; he is waiting for his first professional hit as well. 3 errors by the defense that didn't exactly help the cause. Well the offensive output tonight was one more run than the previous three games combined. Jose Pena hit his 1st homer in the states in the sixth inning. Jose Sermo was on base twice with two hits (RBI), as was Angel Ortega with a single and a walk (2 RBIs). Recent draft picks Tyrone Taylor and Alan Sharkey also contributed base hits. A-Crew PbP Really wish I could find something that I find interesting but it is becoming a little problematic trying to write about these games.
  21. AZL Indians 13, AZL Brewers 2 Arizona Box Score Well to be quite honest the score says it all. The A-Crew took the lead in the first inning on a Jose Sermo triple after 2nd rounder Tyrone Taylor led off the game with a single. Then Dustin Houle flew out and Sermo was thrown out at home and that was the end of that mini threat. Jalen Harris scored in the 7th on a Angel Ortega ground out and that signified the only A-Crew runs. Joel Dicent started his first game in the states and wasn't nearly as effective as he was in the DSL last year; 5 earned runs in 4 innings. 10th round pick Anthony Banda followed him with 5 runs (all earned) on 6 hits and 2 walks in 1.1 innings. Carlos Sosa, the 2011 DSL Brewer closer, came in for his states debut and didn't really stop the bleeding. He gave up the final 6 hits and 3 runs of the night. A-Crew PbP The run-scoring Brewer innings AZL Brewers Top of the 1st Tyrone Taylor singles on a ground ball to left fielder Anthony Santander. Jose Sermo triples (1) on a fly ball to right fielder Joshua McAdams. Tyrone Taylor scores. Dustin Houle flies into double play, right fielder Joshua McAdams to catcher Martin Cervenka. Jose Sermo out at home on the throw. Jalen Harris grounds out, shortstop Dorssys Paulino to first baseman Ryan Battaglia. AZL Brewers Top of the 7th Dustin Houle walks. Jalen Harris grounds into a force out, shortstop Dorssys Paulino to second baseman Claudio Bautista. Dustin Houle out at 2nd. Jalen Harris to 1st. Jose Pena doubles (3) on a fly ball to left fielder Anthony Santander. Jalen Harris to 3rd. Angel Ortega grounds out, shortstop Dorssys Paulino to first baseman Ryan Battaglia. Jalen Harris scores. Renaldo Jenkins grounds out, third baseman Jorge Martinez to first baseman Ryan Battaglia.
  22. AZL Athletics 18, AZL Brewers 2 Arizona Box Score The second game of the season down in Arizona didn't really go to plan. I feel like I wrote that last night as well. Daniel Keller and Austin Hall had nothing going on tonight. Their combined final line was 4 IP 16 runs (13 earned) on 16 hits, 4 walks and 5 strikeouts. Offensively, nothing until the 9th inning. Jose Pena and Jalen Harris had an RBI single apiece. In his professional debut Taylor Smith-Brennan got on base twice. Dustin Houle collected his first professional hit. I think Pena and Malcolm Dowell are going to be a pretty intriguing outfield pairing; they both had a base hit. Arizona PbP The long bright spot of the night. AZL Brewers Top of the 9th Pitcher Change: Derek Hansen replaces Cody Kurz. Jose Sermo doubles (1) on a fly ball to left fielder Luis Baez. Deivi Mejia strikes out swinging. Jose Garcia singles on a ground ball to left fielder Luis Baez. Jose Sermo scores. With Jose Pena batting, wild pitch by Derek Hansen, Jose Garcia to 2nd. Jose Pena grounds out, pitcher Derek Hansen to first baseman Michael Soto. Jose Garcia to 3rd. Jalen Harris singles on a ground ball to third baseman Luis Osorio. Jose Garcia scores. With Taylor Smith-Brennan batting, wild pitch by Derek Hansen, Jalen Harris to 2nd. Taylor Smith-Brennan walks. Wild pitch by pitcher Derek Hansen. Jalen Harris to 3rd. Alan Sharkey grounds out, pitcher Derek Hansen to first baseman Michael Soto.
  23. AZL Dodgers 13, AZL Brewers 1 Arizona Box Score The first game of the season down in Arizona didn't really go to plan. Jorge Lopez gave up a homer to start the game, then proceeded to retire the next three hitters in order (2 strikeouts). He didn't make it out of the second inning however. His final line was 1.2 IP 6runs (4 earned) on 4 hits, 3 walks and 2 strikeouts. Jeffrey Saba didn't fair much better giving up 4 ER in 3.1 innings. Offensively there wasn't a whole heck of a lot going on either. Jose Pena, Alan Sharkey and Renaldo Jenkins all had 2 hits. Angel Ortega and Malcolm Dowell also collected a hit apiece. Arizona PbP The fateful second inning...AZL Dodgers Top of the 2nd Paul Hoenecke grounds out, third baseman Jalen Harris to first baseman Alan Sharkey. Webster Rivas singles on a fly ball to right fielder Jose Pena. Throwing error by pitcher Jorge Lopez on the pickoff attempt. Webster Rivas out at home, right fielder Jose Pena to second baseman Renaldo Jenkins to catcher Dustin Houle. Bladimir Franco walks. John Sgromolo walks. Bladimir Franco to 2nd. With Stefan Jarrin batting, wild pitch by Jorge Lopez, Bladimir Franco to 3rd. John Sgromolo to 2nd. Stefan Jarrin walks. With Anthony Jackson batting, wild pitch by Jorge Lopez, Bladimir Franco scores. John Sgromolo to 3rd. Stefan Jarrin to 2nd. Anthony Jackson singles on a fly ball to right fielder Jose Pena. John Sgromolo scores. Stefan Jarrin to 3rd. Jesmuel Valentin doubles (1) on a fly ball to right fielder Jose Pena. Stefan Jarrin scores. Anthony Jackson to 3rd. Noel Cuevas reaches on fielding error by third baseman Jalen Harris. Anthony Jackson scores. Jesmuel Valentin scores. Pitcher Change: Jeffrey Saba replaces Jorge Lopez. Tyler Ogle pops out to first baseman Alan Sharkey.
