  1. I agree. I heard someone call into 1250 and say he is a father of 3 (which i happen to be too) and after what Braun did, this guy is really going to question the atmosphere he is bringing his kids to. He threw away all their Braun gear, etc. Oh, so let me get this straight, Yo driving drunk, Krod beating his fiancé - those things don't cause concern, but Braun does. Ah ok. Gotcha. Because as a father, I would expect you to show concern over the crimes which did or can physically hurt others. But glad Brauns lying/drug taking sent you over the edge. I really hope you are not a football fan.
  2. My pops told me about that one Maybe we can do Disco demolition night part 2 http://m.bleacherreport.com/articles/846519-top-10-worst-mlb-gameday-promotions-ever/page/10
  3. BuckyBrewer - that is where I am coming from. Since the Brewers are still going to market Braun, I wouldn't expect to see any anti-Braun campaigns.
  4. this is the most tired thing ive heard about this entire situation I agree. The crimes are on separate planets.
  5. Here are some idea's that have come through on Twitter: 1. Free Beer Friday's 2. Randomly give 10,000 fans $325 (Braun's forfeited salary for remainder of year) 3. 50% off any item in Pro Shop (select games) 4. Braun sits in a dunk tank. General public gets to dunk him. 5. County Stadium prices night. 6. Have timber rattlers come down and sign autographs. 7. Have Braun donate every game check to a different charity next year. 8. Win Braun's Game Day Check - Random attendee will win braun's paycheck for the game. 9. Discount on 2014 season tickets.
  6. I read this and it looks like the Brewers are going to be coming up with some new promotions for the remainder of the year. http://www.bizjournals.com/milwaukee/news/2013/07/25/attanasio-team-planning-payback-for.html Attanasio said: “I am working with Rick Schlesinger and Bob Quinn on a way to give back to the fans not only for going through this, but for what otherwise has been a difficult and frustrating season for us. We are working on some ideas to give back to the fans in a meaningful way to show our appreciation for their support.”
  7. Last year: Marlins trade Anibal Sanchez and Omar Infante and 2013 competitive balance pick round A to Tigers for a trio of prospects. (Jacob Turner, Brian Flynn, and Rob Brantly.) The Marlins also received the Tigers competitive balance round B pick. http://m.espn.go.com/mlb/story?storyId=8193121&src=desktop
  8. Axford to the Red Sox. July 25th.
  9. Wrong guy, two days off but I got the team right!
  10. With Melvin's history as a GM, I don't see him trading a pitcher with more than a half a year under contract(lohse and yo) unless he gets a AAA that is MLB ready. He still needs to put out a respectable starting 5 next year. And no, Peralta, Estrada, Fiers, Burgos, Hand, Thornburg or some combo isn't what he will walk into 2014 with. We all know that.
  11. How about this scenario: Rodriguez gets suspended for 1 full season - thus saving the Yankees $25+ million and enticing them to trade for Ramirez (probably not until he returns in August though.) I doubt anyone would claim him with that salary so he would pass through waivers.
  12. Well said about Braun not issuing an apology to the sample collector. Some have blown that piece way out of proportion http://deadspin.com/ryan-braun-does-not-owe-the-sample-collector-an-apology-873467302
  13. Of all the comments in this thread - this is the best one. Thanks JJ
  14. And let the trading begin!! And I agree Harry, they did dodge a bullet.
  15. Right now feels like the calm before the storm. On Monday July 23rd, 2012, here are 3 (and a half) big trades that kicked off the home stretch of trading season. 1. Seattle trades Ichiro to Yankee's for D.J. Mitchell and Danny Farquhar. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20120723&content_id=35434200&vkey=news_chc&c_id=chc 2. Marlins trade Anibal Sanchez and Omar Infante and 2013 competitive balance pick round A to Tigers for a trio of prospects. (Jacob Turner, Brian Flynn, and Rob Brantly.) The Marlins also received the Tigers competitive balance round B pick. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20120723&content_id=35452042&vkey=news_chc&c_id=chc 3. Houston Astros trade Wandy Rodriguez with cash to the Pittsburgh Pirates for Colton Cain, Rudy Owens and Robbie Grossman. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20120723&content_id=35428900&vkey=news_hou&c_id=hou 4. The trade that almost was ... Cubs trade Dempster to Braves for Randall Delgado and PTBNL. This was announced on the same day as all those other trades, but Dempster didn't agree to it (and didn't veto it either) but the Braves would move on a few days later. Dempster would then be traded on July 31st to the Rangers. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20120724&content_id=35477500&vkey=news_chc&c_id=chc
  16. Axford to the Orioles July 25th
  17. Paul - I agree with #1 - our scouting sucks. Period. For #2. I liked the Gomez signing as he is an awesome defensive talent. I am fine with him. There have been others Melvin has had to reach on Wolf, Suppan, etc because of our lack of drafting impact pitching talent. (See point 1) .... As for the question about not giving our prospects a chance. I agree with this to a point. But the issue is, we haven't had guys produce like the ones you mention from St. Louis. Those guys all hit .300+ in the minors. I don't know of guys in our system that are tearing up the minor leagues (at every level) and just not being given a chance. Here is what I saw on the Cardinals you mentioned: 1. Jay - Drafted in 2006 - 2nd round. (We took Brent Brewer 14 picks before Jay) ... Minor league stat line: 301 / 367 / 435 2. Carpenter - 2009 - 13th round. (299 / 408 / 450) 3. Craig - 2006 - 8th round (308 / 369 / 518) 4. Freese - 2006 - drafted in 9th round by Padres. Traded to Cardinals for Jim Edmonds. (Minor league stat line of 307 / 384 / 531) So of those 4 guys; they were all producing in the minors and continued to as they were bumped up through the system.
  18. While I whole heartedly agree, that if you are going to be bad - well then be very bad. Being .500 isn't a good model. Having said that, I don't want our next 5 years of draft picks to be like our last 5 years where we haven't drafted any pitching of use. Like I said be bad and get that top 5 pick - that would be great - I just have my doubts that our current scouting dept will hit a HR with that pick. If you want change, to me, you need to look into our draft and development of minor league pitching. That is the area where changes should be made
  19. I had to dig this up but I had posted these names about the status of our minor league pitching. It isn't just Doug Melvin who is responsible. And at the end if the day (to me) the failing of our major league has and continues to be our failing at drafting impact pitching talent. So if you want accountability here are some names Front office list: http://milwaukee.brewers.mlb.com/team/f ... p?c_id=mil. Reid Nichols Position: Director of Playor Development Length at Position: 2002. Links: http://www.baseballprospectus.com/artic ... cleid=5927 Comments: He has done a great job through 2005 when we drafted Braun. Then, ummmm ya, a whole lot of nothing. (I guess LaPorta and Lawrie worked out well for trades) Bruce Seid Position: Director of Amateur Scouting Length at Position: 2008. Links: http://onmilwaukee.com/sports/articles/ ... html?17237, http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/34211659.html Comments: Replaced Jack Zduriencik. Has been involved with scouting for 11 years in Brewers system prior to 2008 promotion. Jim Rooney Position: National Pitching Crosschecker Length at position: 2008 Links: http://mlb.mlb.com/content/printer_frie ... 698991.jsp Rick Tomlin Position: Minor League Roving Pitching Coordinator Length at Position / Background: 2012 - Mets fired him after 1 season (2011 - see link). Held same position with Yankee's from 02-04. Links: http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/mets/p ... inator-out http://milwaukee.brewers.mlb.com/news/a ... 6&c_id=mil Comments: Mets saw enough of him after 1 year. Not sure what he is bringing to the table in his 2nd year here.
  20. Calm down bud. Nothing wrong to have a little bit of humor on a topic that everyone has already expressed their thoughts on. We all have our opinions but in the end it's Attanasio's opinion that matters.
  21. 502 - I have thought about the same thing. But both Briggs and Thurston have good thoughts. I guess I could see them taking a few starts off in September with expanded rosters. But nothing before then
  22. Brewers place LF Ryan Braun on bereavement list due to family medical issue. Player can be on list for 3-7 days. Brewers will bring someone up tomorrow. EDIT: http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20130711&content_id=53476066&notebook_id=53476352&vkey=notebook_mil&c_id=mil
