MLBTR has several teams interested in Tyler Colvin on a minor league deal. At this stage with Reynolds, Overbay, Francisco, I doubt the Brewers are in on him. It's not just criticism of the voters but the process too. However, comments like the one the Cleveland writer wrote in my previous post is a little short sighted. There are many fans that have a lot more insight and probably watch more baseball than some of the 571 members of BBWAA. But the biggest gripe with the 75% vote is it isn't a simple yes or no. You only get 10 votes and some writers only list one name or none at all. Like the guy who voted only for Morris. Does he honestly think that every other person on that list is a no? If so I would really love to hear his argument and quite frankly maybe he should be banned from future votes. Voters like him are doing a bigger injustice than giving the fans a small voting fraction of 1 / 571. It goes back to my point of do the 23 people who didn't vote for Willie Mays actually think he should be kicked out? Or were their votes just used elsewhere because of some useless restriction? IMO, just go with a simple yes or no on everyone. (You can even keep the percentage 50%, 60%, 75%, whichever but if you force them to say yes or no, I think we would get better results) On a side note if we did use just the Deadspin fan vote then Piazza and Biggio would also be in. (in addition to the 3 who made it.) If we use your idea of anyone over 50%, we would be adding Edgar Martinez, Jeff Bagwell, Roger Clemens, Barry Bonds, Curt Schilling, Tim Raines, Mark McGwire, and Don Mattingly. I am not saying we turn this thing over to a complete fan vote as clearly larger markets would get larger voices. I don't think there is a silver bullet but there is clearly a problem. And my biggest gripe when there is such an obvious issue, is the reluctance by those in power to do anything about it. They would rather save face and just ignore it and then actually do something to correct it.

This whole Deadspin / Dan Le Betard thing is just comedic to me. I think it is awesome what he did. And now the BBWAA banned him from future votes. Quite frankly, I would rather use the folks of this site to choose whether or not a person goes into the hall of fame than current process used with the BBWAA. Part of an article by Bruce Hooley from ESPN Cleveland is laughable "reporters who cover the game on a daily basis are better informed than fans who follow the sport from afar." ... But where does it say anywhere that the 571 members of the BBWAA are required to watch X amount of games per year? It doesn't, half of these guys casually watch the sport anyhow. Some of the guys don't even cover the sport anymore! But hey, they get a vote. Furthermore, I believe those writers have become distanced from understanding impact vs non impact players. I would guess that half of them don't even have a rudimentary understanding of sabermetrics. To me, guys who dominated over a long enough period of time should be in and it shouldn't be such a hard argument. I just don't see how players like Don Mattingly, Curt Schilling, Mike Mussina, Tim Raines, Kenny Lofton, Mike Piazza are viewed as just "good" players. These guys dominated their sport for an extended period of time and were routinely in the discussion as being one of the best players in their sport at the time they played. To me, fixing of the process is either you are in or you are not. This whole 15 year voting thing is idiotic. A player could conceivably get 75% of all the writers to vote for him, but if it doesn't happen in the exact same year, they are not in. And even waiting the 5 years after a player is done is ridiculous. I think waiting is a bad idea as time allows you to forget their impact. Take a guy like Justin Verlander. He should be a shoe in for the hall, but when the time comes- my guess is he won't be. Even though Verlander has been MVP, CY Young winner ... whatever. 5 years after he is done playing, it will be forgotten and will just be another guy not in the hall. 23 people didn't vote for Willie Mays. Do those 23 people honestly think he should be kicked out? I would guess not. They just didn't vote for him as they were peeved from a prior year vote or wanted to max their votes on other people knowing he was going to make it anyhow. So why not just say yay or nay?

I also agree with that. I have been saying that for years with Gomez when they would platoon him all the time. You are not helping him or your cause by platooning him. It works if you are platooning a player with no interest in the players long term success but if you are trying to build that player to be a long term option, why would you limit his playing time with a guy who won't be on the team past 2014? In addition, I am a believer that seeing the best pitchers (including lefties) will help the career development of a player. If you see top pitching, to me, it makes the lesser pitchers easier to face. If you see Verlander, Kershaw, Darvish, Lee, then see the Suppan, Bush, Looper types, my perspective is vs the latter, it will make spotting mistakes a lot easier. Mistakes by top pitchers are few and far between, but from lesser pitchers are more frequent. Mistake pitches are were hitters need to learn how to capitalize. (And you don't learn that from sitting on the bench.) So to me, allow Scooter to continue to refine his skill and let him play a ton.

For 2014 yes. But if I was Melvin I am not playing for 2014. I feel like both Roache and Taylor project to more than just 4th OF. Both could be up in 2015. Like I said before, Ryan belongs in the OF ... For now. Which is why I would give him some 1B reps. Our only relevant IF in the minors is Arcia who plays short. This year I would just buckle up and let Morris have a shot.

Jericho - I agree with that, he was suprisingly bad. I thought he would have been much better at 3B Svuem - I think that is the main reason for not moving him to first. He has done fine in the OF, so lets ride that train until he can no longer play RF successfully. In the end I could go either way. My main item is, if we have someone who can play OF well and 1B is the black hole it was in 2013 all over again, then we better try something. (And moving Braun to 1B would be that something.) .... If I were RRR I would make sure Braun gets reps there in spring training.

I don't think you can discount the fact that Braun wasn't only drafted as a IF, he played SS / 3B for the majority of his pre-Brewers career. So I don't think it is so far off base asking this question. Corey played 1B and other IF spots pre 2003. They asked him to play it in 2012. Almost 10 years since he had played it. Braun played 3B through 2007. So asking if he could play 1B isn't completely out of the question. IMO, RF / 1B are the easiest position to field. I think Ryan would do fine at first. We have plenty of guys who can play RF.

I guess it all comes down to if our scouts thought 2013 was just a down year for him. He was good with the Nats but was horrible for both Seattle and Baltimore last year. $6 million is a hard gamble for the crew.

ya, that is dissapointing he will be moving on. 1B was horrendous for us in 2013. I could see Hart having a monster contract year.

As with all trades time will tell. But reality tells us, there is no way we were going to sign Aoki to an extension and do we really think we are going to win the pennant in 2014? Probably not. So I am good with the roll of the die on this kid. Hopefully he can find a groove and be successful.
