  1. I don't know but maybe the .324 batting average in 200+ AB last year And Mike Trout hit .220/.281/.390 in his first year. Small sample size. I take last year's numbers with a grain of salt. The dude doesn't walk, and pitchers won't be afraid to pitch to him because he has no power. His minor league numbers aren't all that impressive, a very empty .300. We can just agree to disagree. I see value in Jim Gantner type hitters. Weeks isn't the answer and scooter is cheap. Give the guy a chance. (And keep spending money on pitching)
  2. I find it hard to believe they're outplaying Boston right now. For the lack of situational hitting the Brewers have right now, the Red Sox aren't that bad today. Marco threw well, Luc and Gomez are having good days at the plate, other than that, this isn't very good. You're not going to win many games when your lineup is 5 strong. Our 6-8 hitters, 9 with the DH, haven't done anything to get anyone excited. The sox top 3 hitters have 1 hit. 1 for 9. The Sox have 4 hits overall. It's their home opener on the day they received rings. Plus Carp has looked lost in left. I would give an edge to the Brewers in terms of who has played better
  3. I agree brwrsfan - about spot on what I would expect for a cost controlled 4th OF
  4. Wow. This board needs relax. 158 to go. Jeez. Our pitching has looked great. Over the long run that will help more than some bad hitting. It gets proven time and time again - See Oakland
  5. He has had zero errors in 73 starts. I don't think anyone expected our 4th OF to hit 300 but continuing defensive excellence is desired. If he starts having errors repeatedly, then get on him but his first one in 73 starts. Come on
  6. Isn't he the one that got all bent out of shape with Milwaukee fans voting Miller Park into the best ballpark discussion? No end to the sanctimony of baseball writers. I just don't get this attitude in the media that if someone does something wrong they need to be punished for life, people don't treat other people that way for every offense committed. Braun cheated, it was stupid, embarrassing, disappointing, selfish and a million other things. But it's done, it's over, let's move forward. Yep - you got it. That is the guy. He is also the guy who said "Vick is just another working stiff" here is the link to the article below (I also just pasted in the text from the article) So on one hand he has no problem whatsoever allowing Vick back into the NFL but Braun should be shunned by society. Simply ridiculous. Hank disapproves. http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=caple/090728_vick&sportCat=nfl
  7. The article you mention is by Jim Caple. He is a clown. I don't understand his hatred toward Milwaukee but whatever. Here is the link: http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/10714318/mlb-fans-send-wrong-message-cheering-ryan-braun?ex_cid=espnapi_public I agree with your points Torts. I get frustrated with this article in multiple ways. I guess my main frustration (and I have said this before) is why should we vilify just one person. If you are on the hate Braun rampage for PED's then hate them all. Don't just single out one person, otherwise you (Jim Caple) come off as a hypocrite. In addition, don't just stop at the chalk line of MLB. Extend it into all sports and really broaden your horizon. Because if you think the un-tested world of the NFL isn't using HGH, you are highly mistaken. But I digress. I was at opening day with my 11 year old daughter. (Yes - proud parenting moment to pull my straight A 6 grader out of school to attend her first ever opening day) I sat and cheered for Braun (I was in the TB 400 level.) I also cheered for Yo and K-Rod because I want my team to win. In specific to cheering for Braun, I did it and my daughter did too as Braun has done everything in his power to move on. People make mistakes and I guess in the world of Jim Caple we should teach our youth to never ever forgive someone.
  8. Thanks Bud! And go Brewers!!
  9. @Todd_Rosiak: Further clarity could come at first base later today, as it appears Juan Francisco's locker has been packed up in the Maryvale clubhouse.
  10. @MikeVassallo13: 1B/OF Sean Halton has been outrighted to Triple-A @nashvillesounds. The 40-man roster now stands at 38. #Brewers Making room ...

  13. That is true ... The muscle hit some mammoth bombs.
  14. I am listening to the brewers broadcast and it sounds good. Outside of the dude chanting M V P E D - every time Braun bats
  15. And starting our first game today (@ Oakland): 7. Overbay as DH 8. Reynolds at 3B 9. Francisco as 1B Talk about lining up the competition
  16. Trout is an exception as he is simply outstanding. Many of these players being locked up early (i.e. Lucroy) are good players but not the best in baseball. Also, if you are a pitcher and have the ability to sign a large contract and all you have to do is give up is a few years of free agency, I think you would be out of your mind not to take the money. These contracts are all gauranteed and ensure you will never have to work again. The injury risk is just to great. Even in the case of players who were top of their game could benefit from taking an early large contract. Take Lincecum for example. His last good year was 2011. He had 2 controlled years left, he could have easily received a 5-7 year deal in the 20 mil range. Now? (He was only able to get a 2 year deal at 17 mil per becuase he fell apart) ... So to me, ya the salaries are going up for players who are excelling in the early years but I don't forsee it getting completely out of control.
  17. I agree with you that the club should pay for adequate housing, meals, equipment, etc. Add in access to free supplements approved by team doctors and free gym memberships to wherever you call home in the offseason. But they also just need to get paid more. I know it is a double edged sword but from the sounds of it - they are drastically underpaid
  18. That is a great article and great post Haas. I always wondered how some of the players do it. I know some can get help from parents and have a signing bonus to fall back on for a while. But when you see some of these guys spend so much time at the minor league level on these low incomes, something has to give. I agree that they should be paid more. To me it is in the best interest to the club to ensure they are getting a proper and effective diet. (Which if anyone has tried to do is quite expensive.) One thing the article doesn't mention is the actual figures. Here is what I could find, whether it is accurate or not, I am unsure: http://www.yougoprobaseball.com/how-much-money-do-minor-league-baseball-players-make-get-paid.html Standard 7 Year Minor League Contract: The Standard 7 Year Minor League Contract consist of a pay scale for each level of the minor leagues plus an incentives package. As of 2010 the pay scale for most players is as follows: All wages are based on first year participation. Each additional year of service at each level adds more money. How much money do Minor League Baseball Players make / get paid a month? [pre]Level………. Yr1 Yr2 Yr3 Rookie…….. $1,150 $1,200 $1,250 Short Season A $1,150 $1,200 $1,250 Low A……… $1,300 $1,350 $1,400 High A…….. $1,500 $1,550 $1,600 Double A…… $1,700 $1,800 $1,900 Triple A…… $2,150 $2,400 $2,700[/pre] The incentives include: $500 bonus after 60 days in Double A time. $1000 bonus after 60 days Triple A time. $5000 bonus after 60 days Big League time. All minor league players recieve $20 meal money per day that the team is away from home. Not including the off season. Minor League Baseball Players do not get paid during Spring Training. They only receive $20 for every meal the team doesn't provide. Some teams provide all meals which means the players get paid nothing, while some teams don't provide dinner. Therefore those players would get $140 a week for meal money. There aren't many other things to consider when determining how much money Minor League Baseball Players make / get paid besides the signing bonus. But that is just a one time payment and varies very much depending on where a player was drafted.[.
  19. As us in WI can all have a slight sigh of relief, the boys of summer kicked off the first intrasquad game this afternoon. Is Spring really just around the corner? Can winter please end? Here is a quick recap from twitter on today's intrasquad: 1. Cargo hits a 2 run shot of Brooks Hall in first inning 2. Rule 5 pick Wei-Chung Wang walks weeks and overbay but struck out Braun and Maldy. end of First. (2-0) 3. Elian Herrera hits a RBI single off of NRI, Dustin Molleken. (3-0) 4. NRI, Irving Falu with an RBI single off of Michael Olmstead in the bottom of the 2nd. End of 2nd (3-1) 5. David Goforth pitches in top of the 3rd and gives up a lead off homer to Mitch Haniger. 6. RHP Kevin Shackelford in to pitch in the bottom of the 3rd and closes it out as the Brewers beat the Brewers 4-1. Whohooo, baseball is here!!!

  22. Twitter has been saying that Braun was there all day today. I didn't check yesterday. JSOnline posted an article about him taking questions: http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/246390331.html What am I missing? Did he forget to sign in so he doesn't count as being there?
  23. Here is to a great season to #41! http://mlblogsbrewernation.files.wordpress.com/2013/01/estradaarby.jpg
