  1. Says who? And who knows if you use him for all 8 outs. But the mindset that my best pitcher can only pitch in the 9th inning is idiotic. When you do that you get results like yesterday, your best pitcher on the mound with the lead long gone. IMO that is bad managing. Edit -> sorry rondo - my response seems a tad harsh, not trying to be rude. While I agree 8 outs might have been difficult for Uehara, but 5 might not have been. Plus with the game in Fenway, the pitcher doesn't bat. So even more of a reason as you won't have to pull him for a hitter. In the end, I just wish in tight spots teams would bring in their best relief pitcher- regardless of inning. Give your 2nd or 3rd best pitcher a clean inning and not 2 on with 1 out. It is what frustrates me with the brewers coaching. Same situation and Loe is brought in to give up a 3 run jack.
  2. What frustrates me is when the top of the order comes up with 2 on and 1 out and you leave Uehara on the bench. The guy has been flat out ridiculous this year. I just don't understand not using your best pitcher in high pressure spots
  3. That is ridiculous. But a team with the six highest payroll can afford to do stupid stuff. It's the reality of allowing those top teams to do basically whatever they want. Including taking an insane risk on Lincecum. Us Brewer fans still complain about the lost money for Suppan. If this doesn't work out for the Giants they won't even sneeze.
  4. I don't. In the NFL, the rookies and young players are paid incredibly much more than in MLB. A salary floor only encourages prolonged mediocrity. The Astros and Marlins are going to be better off in the long run for completely tearing apart their teams. With a salary floor they would have been required to sign pointless veterans just to meet some arbitrary number. As baldkin said, the smaller market teams would be getting significantly more in the TV money as they would now be getting shares from all teams. A cap cannot exist without revenue sharing of TV money and you cannot share money without a salary floor (otherwise Loria and others would just pocket it all) ... One of the original articles posted: http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/200738381.html showed how the Dodgers will take in $188 million per year and the Brewers will take in $21 million. That is beyond lopsided and IMO simply ludicrous. I just cannot get behind that unbalanced of a distrubution.
  5. But in the NFL you have a salary floor which requires all teams to spend X. I agree that the same requirement would be needed in MLB.
  6. That is great. It makes the Cardinals complaining ludicrous. They clearly are not the models of perfect behavior are they
  7. I agree. Speaking for myself, I just call it a salaray cap and am encompassing everything the NFL does to even the playing field. But you are 100% correct, revenue sharing is critical. In the end, MLB needs to collect all TV revenue and split it equally amongst the teams. Just like in the NFL. (However in the NFL, they don't allow teams to sell their games. The NFL sells NFC away games as a whole to Fox and AFC Away games to CBS.) I realzie that in baseball, all 30 teams can strike a TV deal, but that is where it has gone wrong. It is one league thus each TV deal should be divided up into 30 equal shares. This is the most critical piece.
  8. A salary cap would not help in keeping their own players through the length of their careers either. Baldkin - that is exactly what I am saying. They have to do everything perfectly and have a small window to do it in. Nate - I am confused on how it wouldn't. If every team could only spend X, the Tigers wouldn't have been able to open up their wallet and sign prince, or the Yankee's with Sabathia or the Dodgers with Greinke. The list goes on and on. If those teams wanted to sign those players they would have to subtract from their team. In the NFL, Mike Wallace went to the Dolphins, not the Patriots. Mario Williams went to the Buffalo Bills not the Packers. If anything, a salaray cap allows for ALL teams to afford free agents and not just the top half of the league. The Pirates can't sign Greinke, they had to sign Liriano and pray for lightening in a bottle. Which yes, they got but if they had the money they could have just signed them both. I don't see how having a salary cap would be a bad thing. I guess I just don't see it.
  9. Lets take a quick look at the Championship Series opponents over the past 6 years (since 2008 when the Brewers made it as a wild card) Team Salary Rank in parentheses * denotes World Series Winner 2008 Rays(#29) over Red Sox(#4) Phillies(#13)* over Dodgers (#8) 2009 Yankees (#1)* over Angels (#6) Phillies(#7) over Dodgers (#9) 2010 Rangers(#27) over Yankees(#1) Giants(#10)* over Phillies (#4) 2011 Rangers (#13) over Tigers (#10) Cardinals (#11)* over Brewers (#17) 2012 Tigers (#5) over Yankees (#1) Giants (#7)* over Cardinals (#9) 2013 Tigers (#5) vs Red Sox (#3) Dodgers (#2) vs Cardinals (#10) I am not sure how one cannot make the procolmation that spending (especially being in the top 15 in MLB) doesn't have a positive correlation to not only making the playoffs but clearly making the Championship games. The reality is, JUST making the playoffs is almost equivelant to winning the World Series for the small market teams. Teams like the 2011 Brewers must sacrafice the future to win now. So unless you can continuously outspend your neighbor, you will most likely be a splash in the Championship pan. Looking at the time frame from above, here are some % to chew on: Teams ranked in top 10 = 75% of Championship Series teams (18 of 24) Teams ranked from 11-20 = 17% of Championship Series teams (4 of 24) Teams ranked from 21-30 = 8% of Championship Series teams (2 of 24) I guess I just don't see the parity.
  10. I would see Lucroy in the 5. I just don't see why to move a career .303 hitter with RISP. He just seems to dominate in those situations. Also, with Hart coming off a year long injury, I just seem him as a 6 hitter at best. (Until injuries either force him out or move him up) The other item is, what if they do not sign Hart? What about keeping Aoki and putting Braun at first? If Mitch Haniger continues to dominate the minors and tears up AA in 2014, he could have a real possiblity of being on the big league club for 2015. (Same time Aoki would become a FA)
  11. Just in case you needed more reason to dislike the Cards: via @MLBStateoftheDay: @Cardinals are batting .134 in the #NLCS. That's the lowest batting average ever for a club that went up 2-0 in any series (via @EliasSports) Man that sucks. So they can hit like crap and still win. Way to show some life Dodgers.
  12. 3 of the top 5 team salaries are playing in the Championship Series. Like I have always said; spending has a direct impact on making the playoffs and this year the 4 teams left are in the top 10. http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/salaries Granted, St Louis has done it by spending a decent amount but having an awesome farm team to pull from.
  13. Jimmy Nelson did well for his first start. Seems to throw a pretty effortless 95 mph fastball. I would like to think Jimmy Nelson has an opportunity to win a spot next year. He will turn 25 and I would like to see what he has. So my starting 5 would be Lohse, Gallardo, Peralta, Then you have 2 of Nelson, Estrada, Thornburg
  14. Well this will be fun ... Ax in
  15. heck, i'd be surprised if they gave him 50%, I feel like they'll offer him a good bit less, like a $1 - 2 mil contract with tons of incentives based on games played/yaddayadda like Liriano got with the Buccos this year. As a comparative Kendrys Morales, received the same salary ~3 mil in 2012 as he had in 2011. Even though he missed all of 2011. (I understand that was during his arby years.) I don't expect Hart's salary to stay at $10 mil, but I doubt it drops to the 1-2 range. IMO. Regardless, I just don't see Hart as in the Brewers plans. I think between Braun, Davis, Halton, Morris, and yes even Gamel, you should be able to find a LF / 1B combo. I just don't see a team trying to cut payroll, signing a player for $X amount when they have other internal options to figure out. In the end, it is dissapointing if Corey walks and we get nothing, but at this point I think it is inevitable. Just my opinion.
  16. For a guy to spend 6 years in the minors and have a .221 AVG between the Mariners and Reds, it's pretty crazy he was able to go there and put up 57+
  17. Dhonks - that is where I am at. Trading Aoki won't be enough. So you need to package him with probably our best minor league pitcher in order to get a Lohse type. That would be tough to swallow future pitching for a 1 year stop gap.
  18. I agree - hopefully he is part of the 2014 plan. I have been saying this for a while - if the Brewers want to contend in 2014 it will take a trade of an existing outfielder for a starting pitcher. And 1 year of Aoki won't be enough unless you are packaging him with something. In the end your 3/4 are Peralta /Gallardo so Lohse can be a 2 but you still need an ace.
  19. @ByAndrewWagner: Attendance: 36,076 = $360,760 #BraunBucks. Total so far: $1,416,450
  20. In May 2008 we were at Boston as I was there. Boston is a fun town to go to. I also agree going to Baltimore would be cool. I went there for the first time this year and it was a blast
  21. I would think Braun is an option too. I dont know what to expect from Morris / Gamel. If Hart returns, then ok - stick him there. But a Schafer / Davis combo could make a good left.
  22. MLBTR has Avisail Garcia going to the White Sox Edit: Rosenthal is just speculating at this point Double-Secret Edit: Bob Nightengale of USA Today confirms, Garcia to White Sox.
  23. A 3 team trade? Wonder who the White Sox got
  24. The Pujols signing was horrible. Here are the comments from here in regards to the Pujols signing before the 2012 season: viewtopic.php?f=63&t=26542 I thought Pujols leaving was great for the Crew, but maybe it would have been better for the Cards to stick all that money into him
  25. Starting to feel it will be Aramis Ramirez to the Yankees on July 24th, 2014
