  1. Just hopping on to show love for Estrada ... What a game. From mop up / long relief guy to awesome #4 ... Way to go Marco
  2. I was looking for video from Arnold S, Morgan Freeman, and others but have only found: Intro: http://m.jsonline.com/256749151.htm Yount, Fingers, Uecker: http://m.brewers.mlb.com/news/2014/04/25/73326830/bob-uecker-statue-gets-spot-in-last-row-at-miller-park Anyone have the congratulations on video from the Hollywood folks?
  3. HiAndTight / Danzig - Of Course everyone would like to have awesome starting pitching for $500k a year. I 110% agree. However reality tells you, the Brewers have never been able to do that. Ever. So probably poor wording on my end, but if we are unable to develop good young cheap starting pitching, the Brewers will need to pay more (like Lohse / Garza) to continue having consistent success. Utilizing pitchers like Looper, Bush, Narveson, etc will not set you up for success. In those years, they overspent on fielding and underspent on starting pitching. I would also place relief pitching on the overspent side as well. I am glad gone are the days that we signed the Riske's, Gagne's, etc and now rely on pulling in guys from the minors to fill relief pitching spots. The numbers I used were from Cot's: http://www.baseballprospectus.com/compensation/cots/national-league-central/milwaukee-brewers/ ... So if they are not correct, don't blame me
  4. Yea, i was expecting Melvin haters to chime in, but i guess the good start makes it harder. One bad thing IMO of pretty much most forums whether it's about sports or say politics is a number of posters tend to go to the extremes and thus X person is either great or a bumbling idiot, when often there instead are varying shades of gray. Even for those here who like Melvin more than dislike him, the vast majority of them have still been annoyed by a variety of his decisions over the years, obviously his affinity for Yuni Betancourt being at or near the top of the list. My only gripe with Melvin has been his spending on the fielding/hitting side of the team and reluctance to spend more on the starting pitching. The skeleton of this team: cheap relievers, a few league minimum type starting positional players mixed in with elite talent and quality starting pitching has always been what I wanted. I grimaced as they spended way to much money away from the starting rotation. For Example: 2009 Starting Pitching = $22.3 Million Starting Positional = $40.3 Million Top 5 paid Relievers = $ 13.6 Million 2014 Starting Pitching = $38.8 Million Starting Positional = $39.6 Million Top 5 paid Relievers = $ 8 Million To me, I have always wanted to spend more on starting pitching and he finally has a very good rotation top to bottom. Great job Doug!
  5. For some reason I had not read this thread and am glad I finally did. Good job all around. #hillarious
  6. Or Thornburg with his .75 ERA in 12 innings. Plus those are Ike's only 2 HR. Product of luck.
  7. All baseball players are babies. They get their feelings hurt over nothing so much more than players do in other sports. Circle the bases too slowly on a homer...feelings hurt. Run too fast on a homer...feelings hurt. Bunt at some mystery point in the game...feelings hurt. Have fun playing baseball...feelings hurt. Dlk - this is so spot on. Guys can dunk on someone in NBA - scream like a maniac and not get punched. A guy can score a TD on someone and spike the ball at their feet and not get punched.
  8. Prince and HiAndTight - sorry if I misread that but I took it as Scooter needs a platoon mate / Rickie needs more ABs = Scooter provides little value besides a high batting average as the original poster said. The more Scooter succeeds the more ABs he should get IMO. Plus his D has been great
  9. @joe_block: #Brewers are 8-1 on the road. In 2013, they won their 8th road game on May 31.
  10. Awesome! Keep it going Brewers! I love this team - especially the rotation
  11. Seriously, what is everyone's problem with Ryan Joseph Gennett? He has been great thus far and currently sports a 720 OPS, has made not only the routine plays but great ones too. I think he contributes more than "little else" as you state. I just don't understand the hate for him.
  12. And what about Marquette? I don't know what they pay in rent to use the BC, but Marquette has deep pockets and so does their alumni. I would go after them for money as a new stadium would be beneficial to them too. As for the tax goes. the .1 should be a permanent tax. We will always need funding for sports teams and to me the .1 % is very low as our sales tax rate is low compared to other area's. Even when the tax ends in 2020, I would keep it going and continue bank the funds.
  13. Thanks for the replies! Looking forward to getting to two parks I have never been to before.
  14. I love going to Cincy. Great town. Here is the one and only must before a Reds game: The Haufbrau house. http://www.hofbrauhausnewport.com/ It is accross the river and you will see a large majority of fans taking the pedestrian bridge accross the river to walk to the game from there. I wouldn't go to Cincy without stopping there and having a litre. When I went last in 2011, the Brewers landed the weekend series over Oktoberfest. Basically a huge downtown beer festival in mid - September - it was amazing.
  15. I just don't see a hotel opening up in the parking lot or to some empty land adjacent to the park. The closest improvement they have is the 381 room, $150 million hotel opening at Potawatami. http://paysbig.com/hotel/hotel-construction-project/archived-news/ As NeedMoreFans says, 81 days a year wouldn't cut it on costs for running a hotel that cost over $100 million. The Brewers would be better off supporting a monorail type train from Potawatami to their parking grounds to link in that hotel. Or just run more shuttles than currently offered by Potawatami.
  16. Does Rickie have any value on this team? I am semi-serious. I would be close to cutting him loose and bringing Green backup so we can have yet another first baseman
  17. Yes. I was following the Reds/Bucs and had to turn it off. I would delete the app and re-install. I am not having any issues with my iphone.
  18. Wow - Reynolds dialing in at a 50% K rate. Uhg. Come on guys, lets get it going.
  19. I stand slightly corrected. You are correct, many people like the retro. I did a poor job articulating what I was disagreeing with. The part I was disagreeing with was "most want to purchase the retro than the current, because it's a BETTER jersey" ... I don't think that to be accurate. I would like to see what the team store sales are. I would guess it is closer to 50/50 than you would think. I see many people wearing jersey's of both types. Which leads me to, the more the merrier. Now the piece about the ball / glove becoming a more permanent fixture with today's colors. That would be pretty intriguing and I would like to see that sampled at some point. I just wouldn't be for a complete drop of the current uniform with a 100% switch back to the old one.
  20. Me. I dont mind them, but prefer the new ones. Then you are in a very very very small minority of people. I would disagree with that. Most people I talk to like the retro's in small doses. The ball / glove logo is cool logo but don't play it out. Also I like the simplicity of the new logo and the colors. I own probably half and half in terms of gear. As for marketing / sales / the brewers have the pin stripe retro, new grey, white, and blues. All in all, they will make more money with all the different varieties. What they should do though is bring back the retro powder blues. As I say the more the styles the more the merrier.
