  1. Hopefully I'm wrong but he feels like Scooter Gennett to me. Plucky, young guy comes up on fire and becomes a fan favorite before crashing down into futility.
  2. He was out by a good amount. I don't think any amount of trying harder would have made him safe. Almost seems like the manager is throwing a player under the bus to protect his third base coach. Which is stupid because every fan hates their team's third base coach.
  3. I'm sure the umps have been told to not take any crap about the clock plus no one really knows what was said and Machado is a dunce as we all know so he probably said something worthy of being tossed. Having watched the video it looked to me like Manny was trying to call time right before the clock hit 8 but didn't get it. Really they need to just get rid of the whole batter being aware thing. I understand the safety reasons but if you're standing in the box you should be alert enough to know a pitch might be coming. I've seen pitchers pitch with a batter not paying attention before I don't know why it's an issue now.
  4. Barring injury where is he going to play? 1B, 2B, and DH are all pretty well spoken for and full. Even if you consider him an outfielder there's just no where for him to go. Let's say he is OPS'ing 1.000 in AAA a month from now, I really hope they wouldn't call him up just to have get a handful of at bats every week like they've done so many times before.
  5. I don't think Hiura can get back on his play alone. It's going to depend on some long term or season ending injuries. Since he was outrighted off the 40 man someone would have to come off and I believe he can refuse the assignment next time they try to send him down. Basically if they bring him up it's his last chance so I doubt they would do that unless he has the opportunity for consistant playing time over a couple months.
  6. Agreed. Anything about pitch framing being a hold up is a stupid reason.
  7. Umps won't be shamed into calling pitches correctly. They're ego will take over and they'll start tossing guys for the slightest reaction to a missed call.
  8. Sports Illustrated has totally gone down the toilet. I've been a subscriber for about 20 years and I always look forward to the preview issues. At one time they were awesome with each team getting a 2 page spread and a breakdown of the whole roster. They've slowly become less and less every year and this year's MLB preview is by far the worst. Each DIVISION gets a few paragraphs and the analysis is terrible as whoever wrote them has apparently only ever heard of batting average and ERA. Of course, the 2023 NFL season has it's own multipage preview in the same issue because why not.
  9. Us cheap midwest folks aren't going to pay more for higher quality so why should the Brewers bother trying. Also, this is a sports stadium not a 5 star restaurant.
  10. How many pitchers care about holding runners on in ST? Most are just out there to get their pitches in.
  11. Depends. If a Cardinal did this, then no. Otherwise, probably.
  12. I'm assuming the number of games is similar but without knowing that it's tough to know what to make of it. I really don't think there will be a noticeable difference in the regular season though.
  13. Umps are in midseason form already.
  14. Voit's trade return is nothing. He was available for practically nothing all offseason and even in to spring training before he signed here.
  15. I can't be the only person who was waiting for the pitcher to throw over while Vogy had his head in the clouds and pick him off. That is the only acceptable way that should have ended.
  16. Seems like everyone except the Ravens are interested in Jackson this offseason.
  17. The whole tax system is a joke. When I was in college my mom claimed me as a dependent so she could take a big deduction because there was some flooding in the city where I was going to school so I technically lived there. Nevermind the flooding was nowhere near the school and happened over the summer when I wasn't even there.
  18. No. But I don't care about any college sports even the tiniest bit.
  19. Don't the Jets have some pretty good young receivers? Are they going to let ARod push them into signing a has been and a never was to take snaps away from them?
  20. MLB Free Agency: Star players stay on the market for months, even past the start of spring training. NFL Free Agency: Every player is signed before they are even legally allowed to.
  21. After seeing highlights of some asinine pitch clock violations (I'm in favor of it for the record) makes me wonder if some players are trying to make the rule look as stupid as possible so MLB is forced to revise or eliminate it.
  22. Wouldn't it make more sense to get a 2024 first round pick? If Love bombs you can package both 2024 picks and move up to get the QB you want or if the whole team tanks be in a spot to draft that guy without a trade.
  23. It's not like the NFC North is chock full of talent right now. The Vikings won with smoke and mirrors last year and have a merely average QB on the downside of his career with a terrible defense. The Lions appear to be on the rise but who knows who Jared Goff really is. And they too feel like a team that really overachieved last year and I could totally see them only winning 5 or 6 games next year, getting Campbell fired, and starting over again. The Bears are the real wildcard long term. They've got the cap space to go crazy and Fields could be something special, as long as he stays healthy but that coaching staff looks like they're determined to end his career before it even starts. Unless Love is a total flop I don't think the Packers are destined for disgrace the next few years. More likely they're a team that's good enough to win the division most years because of the weak division but ultimately lose in the first round.
  24. There's a lot of difficult conversations you have to have with your children - death, sex, drugs, etc. and you're never fully prepared for how to handle it. My 6 year old asked me to explain to him what space is. That was by far most the difficult conversation I've had so far.
  25. Wasn't Favre's situation all about him going back and forth on retiring? I don't remember there being talk about him going to another team until he wanted to come back after retiring and the Packers had already moved on. That was 15 years ago so I could be wrong.
