  1. It was out of line less than 365 days ago. Carter was set to earn approx. $5.6mil last year and the Astros non tendered him. MLB Trade Rumors has him at $8M which still wouldn't be much of a problem considering we have no reason to spend money this offseason.
  2. I made this same post in the playoff thread. The jackets they wear are almost all pullovers. Are those too casual?
  3. MLB needs to ditch the stupid hoodies in the postseason. There must be a mandate from above to wear them because as soon as the playoffs start every player and coach wears one and they all just look stupid.
  4. I don't see any way this happens. Even if we pay all of Garza's salary.
  5. I don't know what the word for it is but the Nats didn't sign Ian Desmond to play SS for them in part because of Trea Turner. And now both Desmond and Turner are playing CF. It's not irony but it's something.
  6. What is going to be funny is when the Indians advance and the Rangers get sent home tomorrow. It also kind of shows you how much of a crapshoot the playoffs are. Who would have expected Hamels and Darvish to get hammered the way they did in games 1 and 2?
  7. How many freaking groups/committees/etc. are there to get in the Hall of Fame? I guess the less the BWAA controls the better but sheesh.
  8. I'm pretty sure Heyman is making up the part about Carter but I would say it's about what he could get in arbitration more than anything. He's going to get majorly rewarded for the HR's despite not providing much of anything else.
  9. Well every season is special so...no.
  10. I wanted Baltimore to win, but seeing the awful 'conventional wisdom' of saving your closer for a lead on the road in extras take one on the chin was a justified moment that will hopefully lead to change in said wisdom. I am absolutely blown away that here in 2016, with an encyclopedia of information and statistics at our disposal, there are actual award winning managers that still believe that you should save your closer on the road in extras and use your inferior pitchers to try to protect a tie game. The thing is that in the playoffs all that bullpen nonsense goes away. Rivera typically pitched the 8th and 9th regardless of the score and most playoff teams do the same. I have no clue what Buck was thinking but he was probably the only person in the stadium thinking it.
  11. One of my friends just moved there. He's hunkered down in his apartment. So far just rain where he is.
  12. This is very true. I would say developing pitching is probably about 75% luck. The Rays and the Cardinals are the only two organizations that come to mind that have consistently developed starting pitching the last 5-10 years. And even then they've still had injury issues.
  13. Except they didn't really make a big deal out of it. It was more like all of us and our wishful thinking blowing it way out of proportion. The one guy mentioned it about 2 weeks ago really casually. They then mentioned a press conference not even half a week before it was set to take place. Honestly I don't see where they made a big deal out of anything. They had a big project taking place and did a small press conference. Saying they were making an announcement about the largest capital project they've ever undertaken and having a press conference on the field with a fancy video all streamed live seems like a big deal to me. This was worth only a press release.
  14. Surprised it hasn't been said yet but this is such a Brewer move. Make a big deal about something only to severely underwhelm.
  15. Are there any pitchers of note in the AFL this year? Seems like teams don't want to add more innings to their top guys by sending them there.
  16. Bumgarner's got to be the next great pitcher to fall of a cliff, right? He's been way abused the last couple years.
  17. New concession stands. Whoop dee freaking doo. Can't even remember the last time I bought food at Miller Park. Investing the money in player development would probably have a higher ROI.
  18. Tebow "promoted" to the AFL.
  19. I don't consider this to be the playoffs the same way I don't consider the play in games in the NCAA Basketball Tournament are part of the "big dance". Ultimately it's all semantics. Just win your division and you don't have to worry about getting booted after 1 game.
  20. During the Colorado series, Carter was thrown out I believe by a mile at the plate. As he was walking back to the dugout he and the two players walking with him were staring out toward 3B with total looks of disgust on their face. Maybe it was totally unrelated but I think the players understand how terrible Ed is at third.
  21. The Mets have no pitchers left and the Royals won the World Series last year after losing it the year before so I guess the Mets are winning it all this year.
  22. They missed a wild card by 1 game and had some big injuries. Unfortunately, I think they'll be fine for the next couple years.
