1. Both are relievers and not of the quality of reliever that is worth spending any money on in our current situation.
2. I've felt that making the strike zone wider would be great for baseball. Batters can get a hit on a pitch that's an 1/8 inch off the plate just as well as one that just nicks the corner. It might make for a slight dip in offense at first but I don't think it would dramatically effect the game. It would speed up the game as more strikes would be called and it might even cut down on strikeouts if batters finally start to decide the swing at the first pitch cookie down the middle since they have more plate to cover. The obvious problem is how do you define a wider strike zone without making the plate bigger but I guess you could do that.
3. Ya, last time that happened they moved it.
4. I didn't know that half of my Facebook friends were Cubs fans, most of whom have never posted anything about baseball before, but they've been filling my feed with Go Cubs crap the last few days. I really didn't care who won the series until I kept seeing stuff like that and my one annoying Cubs fan friend who got into a comment war on a post and pulled the stupid "oh ya, what time are the Brewers playing tonight?" line. At least this series made me hate people for important reasons like sports for a little while instead of politics.
5. Chapman just hasn't been very sharp this whole postseason. I don't blame Maddon for going with him but I can't say I'm surprised at what happened.
6. With the DH Cleveland should have started Miller. Had him go 2+ and then go to Kluber.
7. Sports Illustrated did a study a couple years ago about how home field influences officiating. Their conclusion was of the pro sports they studied (it was like 8) baseball had the least influence and soccer had the most.
8. The mound is different and the feel in general is different. It takes more than just two pitches to get comfortable and make the mound how you want it(if need be). That's why you get two pitches. You're a professional. You should be able to pitch on a flat piece of concrete in cleats. You don't need to take 3 minutes to get every piece of dirt exactly where you want it.
9. Limit warmup pitches on the field to two after a mid inning change. There's no reason a guy needs to throw 8 (or might be 10, not sure) pitches on the field to be ready. That's what the bullpen is for. That would eliminate the commercial break and take a few minutes off of the game time.
10. I read that it will cost the Packers nothing and Davis will most likely resign with KC because they have some injury issues at RB. So basically the trade never happened.
11. Where do you find these stats showing which team makes the most outs at 3rd base (or home plate for that matter)? And how to the Brewers rate? I am curious if these stats support my eye test, and many others, which tells me Sedar is terrible for the 3b coaching job. That particular stat was quoted in the MLB Trade Rumors article. Fangraphs or Baseball Reference would be my guess.
12. Where is the issue with any of that? The pace of the game changes when guys are on base. Making any changes could severely hamper things for the defense. Edit: Unless you want to make it so no one can steal bases. Actually let's go with that. If pitchers don't have to go into the stretch or worry about guys stealing then that would speed up the pace of play. That 1 AB took 7 minutes and 10 seconds...if every AB took that long we'd be talking about a 6.5 hour game. That is ridiculous Not every at bat has runners on base nor does every baserunner require that amount of attention. I too find it annoying when a pitcher constantly throws over but I would never want a rule that would limit how often it can happen.
13. $15 and I'll pay shipping. No box included. Not exactly full size, about 6 inches tall. PM me if interested.
14. The difference the last two games is that Rodgers is actually running the ball when given the opportunity. The first 6 games he would just run around behind the line of scrimmage trying to find someone to throw to until he got sacked or threw it away. Now he's running for yards when no one's open.
15. Since I'm diabetic I've read that being diabetic increases your chances of pancreatitis. I've never looked up the numbers but it surprises me that diabetes isn't the #1 or at least high on the list of causes.
16. As has clearly been evidenced by pretty much every post in this thread since this one. People died. Lots of lives have been effected. It sucks. Everything else is pretty much irrelevant.
17. Ya, when you consider every 40 seconds about 5 seconds of actual football action happen I think baseball "outpaces" football. Factor in injuries every 4 or 5 plays, commercial practically every change of possession, penalties, etc, football is just a constant waiting for gameplay to happen. I'll agree it doesn't really feel like it though. If anyone has watched any AFL games this fall, they are using 15 seconds between pitches so those pitchers are working fast and the game moves along quite well. If they want MLB games to move fast the biggest thing they need to do is get mound conferences under control. No more scouting reports from the pitching coach every time there's a pinch hitter or catcher visits every other batter.
18. Slightly off topic but thanks Green Bay for not playing Ty Montgomery and most likely costing me a win over my wife this week.
19. I think I'd prefer the Indians win at home over the Cubs losing at home so I'll be somewhat cheering for Chicago tonight.
20. Ya, World Series and playoff game lengths mean nothing with all the extra commercials and other junk. I thought I saw that regular season game times were the same this year as last.
21. It's more about pitches than innings. He threw only seven pitches in the first inning of tonight's game. His pitch count tonight for two innings was something like 25 pitches. Easy to do that in one inning and then come back the next night. He just threw 1.1 innings and 17 pitches last night. That's 3 days in a row if he pitches tomorrow (which I'm sure he will). That second inning was just pointless with a 6 run lead. I guess win today and worry about tomorrow but tomorrow's game will probably be closer than today's.
22. Nice try kids (well, trainers). This only hurts yourselves.
23. What is the point of running Miller into the ground? There's no reason for him to throw 2 innings with a 6 run lead. And it's not like they have a day off before the next game.
24. I don't think he should win in the first place but I don't know why that new information should have any effect at all on voting. It's not the "Best pitcher and also really good guy of the year" award.
