  1. [sarcasm]Spent all their money on new concession stands.[/sarcasm]
  2. No way does Garza start opening day. Davies or Guerra will be your opening day starter. I think the current situation is that Garza may or may not start on Opening Day. It doesn't make sense to state it as an extreme either way. And whomever the Opening Day starter is matters to the extent that it will become the obscure answer to a trivia question within the next five years. If Garza wasn't the Opening Day starter last year I don't know why he would this year. I fully expected him to start the opener last year because he was the veteran but they went with Wily for whatever reason.
  3. Totally pointless move. And Davis would only sign here if he was going to start, which as of now he wouldn't.
  4. No obvious places but one that might make sense to me is the Yankees. Castro is their 2B and his and Scooter's offensive number in 2016 and career are virtually identical. Perhaps there's a platoon there. Also Chase Headley has become a dreadful hitter. I guess his defense is why he plays but maybe they move Starlin around between 2B and 3B and they've always got the DH to fill.
  5. That guy who pitches for the Red Sox and I seem to remember a September callup for someone last year threw a knuckle.
  6. If he can't throw strikes as a starter what makes anyone think he can do it as a reliever? I mean, whatever, see if you can't get anything out of him but I just don't see it helping.
  7. Manager contracts aren't worth the paper they're written on. The whole "lame duck" thing is just made up by agents to get their client more money. If Stearns wants to can him he's going to do it whether he's in his last year of a contract or has 3 years left.
  8. I don't see the Dodgers giving up Kendrick. A good thought but Kendrick fills a few holes that the Dodgers have in the OF and at 2B and that is just to valuable for the Dodgers to give up. Howie has said he wants out though.
  9. I've never seen one of these. What does stitch and pitch mean?
  10. the deadline is sooner than that . . . any rule 5 draft-eligible player that a club wishes to protect must be on the 40-man by 18 november. Considering any team could have signed him to a minor league deal the last few days would any team actually draft him?
  11. Probably should have put that in blue. I don't have a DVR and would never DVR sports. If I can't watch it live I'm just not going to watch it at all.
  12. His 10/5 rights kick in in May. It's already difficult to trade him with his contract and no trade clause. Waiting until summer makes it even tougher. I think the 10/5 rights are way overblown as a concern. He's already got a no trade clause that includes pretty much any team that would want or could afford him anyway so the NTC and 10/5 are basically the same thing.
  13. Actually I think the best idea has been to own a DVR.
  14. Agree. Plus our pen is pretty solid as is. No pen with only one LH pitcher (and he with just 20 or so major league innings) can be considered "solid". Brewers were mentioned as a possible landing spot for Wood on MLBTR run down of top 50 FA, with an estimated price of $21 million over 3 years. Wood is not only a quality reliever but he'd be a strong candidate to start. That's not a bad price for veteran with his track record, age and versatility. Brewers were also listed as having possible interest in Boone Logan, and he'd make sense as well. $7M a year for a reliever would be stupid for the Brewers to do right now. And I see little upside to trying him as a starter over our other current options.
  15. I don't think there's any road blocks but the international draft, kicking Oakland out of revenue sharing, and changes to the QO have all been reported.
  16. Rowen was the least impressive submarine/sidearm pitcher I've ever seen. I was excited to see him get a chance but boy was it underwhelming.
  17. How do they pick all stars? Hasn't Phillips been terrible this fall?
  18. That Korean 3B who wanted to come over here last off season but no one bid on him wants to try again. He's a year older (32 or 33) and if no one bid on him last year I can't imagine there'd be much interest this year. He may even just be a free agent. Contract wise, Byung Ho Park made $3M and Dae-Ho Lee made $1M last year. Given his age he doesn't make much sense for Milwaukee but if they want a veteran to split 3B with Perez I guess I'd prefer this guy to some retreads like Kelly Johnson, etc.
  19. Because a grown man has a much better chance of defending himself against another grown man than a woman does? Why does this need to be explained to you? Like, literally the first thing my dad told me when I was a kid is you never hit a woman. Whether it's a relative, spouse, girlfriend or just some random woman you met for the first time and that if he ever found out that I did he would beat the crap out of me. I understand the physical differences that may exist between males and females I just don't get more worked up over the assault of one gender over the other. Just don't hit anyone regardless of age, gender, whatever. The fact that many seem to be giving him a pass because he was drunk is disturbing as well.
  20. So men are fair game for violence without public outrage? No but it's much more serious if a man hits a woman than if he hits another man. Why? Violence is violence. I'm just going to end it here because we're going toward forum prohibited area but I hate the whole "He hit a woman!? OMG! He is a despicable human being who should be shamed and never see the light of day. Oh, he hit another man. Meh." attitude.
  21. Ron was in over his head from the moment he was hired. Probably why he's received very little managerial interest since he was fired.
  22. So men are fair game for violence without public outrage?
  23. Briggs bashing is all well and good but I have a question relevant to the topic. If a player in the AFL is traded during the AFL season does he then go his new team's AFL team (provided it's a different one) or stick with the team he's currently on?
  24. I've felt that making the strike zone wider would be great for baseball. You know what is worse than long games? Low scoring games. Casual fans want to see runs being scored and a bigger strike zone will do the exact opposite. I also think it would be pretty hard to widen it. The edge of the plate makes a very distinct line between ball/strike. If it is wider than that you are going by an invisible line. Probably wouldn't be consistently called(less than currently). I pointed out that very problem and the solution would be to make the plate physically wider. I think if you make it 18 inches instead of 17 (adding .5 inch to either side of the strike zone) it wouldn't have a dramatic effect on offense. More strikes, more swinging the bat, more balls in play, more action leads to a quicker game in terms of both actual time and perceived time.
  25. Turns out Joe Maddon and Theo Epstein commit recruiting violations and MLB is going to vacate their 2016 wins and title.
