  1. I'm pretty sure Santana has hit leadoff a good chunk if not most of the year for Cleveland. I wonder if the Cubs spray chart shows they generally don't hit to LF very often. Only 3 lefties in the lineup for the Cubs so Santana might be tested often.
  2. Would have liked to keep him but barring a Braun trade how many at bats could he get next year anyway? There's a real logjam in the OF now and it's (hopefully) only going to get worse as Phillips and Brinson push their way in.
  3. I didn't see any Bill Hall. My first thought was Robinson Cano and then the announcers spent a whole AB talking about how he studies Cano.
  4. As long as Molina is still playing he's going to win it for catcher. Why even bother having finalists.
  5. Packers fans are crazy spoiled. I myself am not a Packer (I don't have a favorite team, I just like football). I really don't like watching Packer games with my friends or family because if they're not winning by two touchdowns "the team sucks" and "they're not winning a Super Bowl with these guys so who cares." The draft only philosophy has really hurt them. Same as baseball, you build through the draft and fill in the gaps with free agents. While Thompson fills in the gaps with 6th round picks who barely belong in the league. His free agent signings have turned out pretty good though: Woodson, Saturday (until injury), Peppers, and Cook (jury's still out but once healthy I think he'll be a big help to the offense). Really surprised they actually traded for Davis instead of going with a practice squad running back and converted wide receiver as is their MO.
  6. And it would take business away from the bars and restaurants on Bluemound that are packed on Brewer gamedays. Most likely a lot of people lose their jobs and some of those places close.
  7. I'm pretty sure Uecker used to regularly do the World Series so I don't really the issue there. It's not like he's doing it for the Cubs he's doing it for national television..
  8. No way that happens and especially not because of synchronizing options. Yes, he would be picked and he would probably be the highest rated prospect at the time ever taken in the rule 5 and would stick with his big league team no matter how bad he does.
  9. Something like a 4 -0 series sweep where they lose every game by double digit runs? This 100%. Everyone is overthinking this way too much. The most embarrassing way is to be blown out 4 games in a row, to never be in it or even have a chance. Normally I prefer the winning team to do it at home because it adds more excitement but this scenario would take place in Chicago and be awesome.
  10. My wife does that to her phone but it hurts my eyes to look at it. I just have my screen brightness turned all the way down.
  11. For game 1 of the NLCS the husband of one of one wife's co-workers bought 2 tickets at over $400 a piece. He also (for no reason other than being an idiot I guess) bought some Cubs gear online and had it overnighted. The sweatshirt he bought for her didn't even fit so they had to buy another on the way there. They already had a hotel booked for that night for a wedding they were going to which was too late to refund and also no where near Chicago. So they then needed to book a hotel in Chicago. Also they had to drop their kids off at the grandparents 2 hours away and not at all on the way to the game. All totaled they (he) spent over $1,500 for game 1. He did all this without checking with his wife and didn't tell her until the night before. Wife doesn't care about baseball at all. She also put her foot down and said no when he asked if they could go to a World Series game.
  12. You can if he is the one sending the runners... That is their job. Going from second to third is generally the runners own choice.
  13. Pirates fired their 3B coach after making the second most outs in the league at third base. Although I don't think you can put a whole lot of that on the 3B coach.
  14. It makes no sense that US kids have to go through high school (or pull a Bryce Harper) just to be forced to sign with whatever random team drafts them for around whatever predetermined amount their draft slot calls for while 16 year old latin american kids never have to set foot in a school and are free to sign with whatever team they chose for as much as they can negotiate. I don't think you could come up with a dumber system if you tried.
  15. I doubt Stearns went looking to acquire Susac. More like they wanted more than just Bickford and Susac was who they agreed upon.
  16. -Burke Badenhop Actually it does Burke. Stop complaining you sound like an idiot. It's a business and always a business. You got $1,000 because at the time you were worthless and a massive long shot to ever give your team any value in the future. Tim Tebow got a lot without proving anything because he doesn't need to. He can already make the Mets money. How such a concept stings you or offends you is kind of sad. It is pretty basic. If you wanted to be offended be offended he has an AFL roster spot. That's the only thing I can see a player being upset about. Burke should be upset at the 50 or so 16 year old Latin kids who get more than $1,000 signing bonus every year too.
  17. I recommend melatonin, specifically the tablets that dissolve under your tongue. You can get them at just about any place that has a decent size vitamin selection - any large pharmacy, mass merchandiser, large chain grocery store. It's more of a natural sleep inducer. Melatonin is what works for me. I take the regular tablets. Most times I'm drowsy in about 15 minutes. Only use Nyquil when I'm sick or I just can't fell asleep.
  18. That's what I was going to say. It wasn't about just not playing in the majors (according to him) it was that he only specifically want to play for the Chicago Cubs.
  19. I'm not sure why you're taking offense and having such an attitude about the topic. [sarcasm]You're probably Eddy trying to defend himself against those meanies on the internets.[/sarcasm] When you make bad arguments and innuendo you should expect to be called out on it. When you say you hope Stearns uses actual evidence and not just an old maxim about make the defense work in his decision that is innuendo that contradicts everything we know of Stearns. When I pointed that out you resorted to a claim that it was Running Ron that started it. To suggest what RRR did at one time has some sort of impact on what Stearns and Counsell do now is pretty far fetched. That is the bad argument part. Good lord the point was so freaking obvious I have no idea what you're even talking about. Sedar has been coaching 3B since Ron was hired, maybe he even was under Macha I don't remember. Ron brought aggressive baserunning and the results have been mixed at best. It's been a constant point of contention here at BF.net. It changed very little when Craig took over last year and didn't change this year. So Stearns didn't bring it with him but as best we can tell he hasn't stopped it either. If that's because he supports it we don't know. If he does I hope (and I'm sure he would) he has some data to back it up because all we fans see is stupid baserunning making outs.
  20. I have lots of thoughts on this and will probably post something bigger tomorrow but I would just like to point out that the system talked about still involves human judgement with the bottom and the top of the zone. I know there are specific rules that define the top and the bottom but it's still going to be a judgement on whomever is inputting the data as to what is the batters regular stance. Also, I've never seen check swings addressed. They don't happen all that often but it still needs to be considered. I guess they first would need to actually define what a swing is.
  21. It's all about their pitching. I don't know their minor league system but all their starters now are either in or leaving their prime. Meaning it's only going to get worse the next few years unless they trade some of that great hitting they have. The Heyward and Lester contracts aren't necessarily going to handcuff them financially but they will make them have to decide whether to resign Rizzo/Bryant/Baez/etc. or spend it on free agent pitching. In a year or two they could look an awful lot like the late 2000's/early 2010's with great hitting but crap pitching.
  22. Because you can bank on months of rest in just a few weeks. Short rest certainly is not a recipe for success over 162 games. It's not the rest they talk about though, it's the routine.
  23. I find it funny that during the regular season the line is "you can't mess with a starter's routine" by pitching them on long or short rest. But once the playoffs start, and games are more important, all of that is thrown out the window and some guys go a week without throwing while others start every other day.
