  1. Who exactly is Garza blocking at the start of next year? I've seen this posted before but I don't see anyone he is blocking. I don't consider Suter a starter and the next SP prospects really don't have a shot at making the team out of camp.
  2. And yet La Russa keeps his job. I don't think there's been a more inept front office than that of the Diamondbacks the last decade or so. If you ever wondered what would happen if Briggs ran a MLB team, look no further than Dave Stewart's tenure in Arizona.
  3. It's not a home game so he doesn't get to be removed for a standing ovation. I'm actually surprised he's played as much as he has the last few weeks because there is absolutely nothing to gain by having him on the field. Any injury this late in the season would remove any trade value he added by putting up a very good and relatively healthy season.
  4. So that replay, quickest one I've ever seen and like Brian and Bill were saying to the letter of the rule they probably got it wrong.
  5. Our best starter who hasn't been shut down? Sounds like the right choice to me.
  6. I did not know that and that is quite possibly the dumbest thing I've ever heard about replay. You'd think MLB replay was run by the government it is so inept.
  7. After seeing the title and who posted it I correctly predicted what he would say and what the responses would be before even reading the thread. You make the same point in pretty much every thread. Move on.
  8. Cardinals beat the Reds on a double but from the video I'm pretty sure it's a ground rule double that would have kept the winning run on 3rd. The Reds wanted to challenge but the umps had already left the field.
  9. I get alerts on my phone when my credit card is used. Today I was shopping and I had literally just finished swiping it when my phone alerted me that it was used for the purchase I just made. How the hell is it that fast?
  10. Why not? You can pretty much flip a coin on replays.
  11. Wow. How do you blow that call on the field. Probably will be upheld though because...replay.
  12. I turned on the game to hear Rock going off on official scoring again which made me give an eyeroll to no one in particular. Now that I've seen the play I don't blame. This is just straight up stupid.
  13. I guess but does that really help the organization? He's no longer working with amateur scouting and the draft which were his strengths and something we need to have our tops guys working on. The husband of one of my wife's friends was talking about his recent promotion a couple years ago. He said, "I was so good at being an engineer they gave me a promotion and are paying me more money to not be an engineer anymore." I mean I get it but I don't get why people who are very good at their jobs gets promoted to positions where they aren't doing what they are good at anymore. Seems counterproductive to me.
  14. Almost every hitter has bad months. Segura was never "downright terrible". He showed up and played hard. In September 2014 when the almost the entire team collapsed, Segura hit .319/.364/.389. He's a talented player and always was. Sometimes the results weren't there, but it was never from a lack of effort. Jury is still out on that deal. If Diaz turns out to live up to expectations, then it was a good deal. Anderson's been okay. Jean's 81 OPS+ with Milwaukee is downright terrible. His 13 months he put up a sub .700 OPS, 6 months he put up a sub .600 OPS, and 2 months with a sub .500 OPS here were downright terrible. He had way more bad months than good months.
  15. So the big time draft guy we hired a couple years ago to fix our crappy drafting was replaced after two drafts? Seems weird.
  16. The Indians and Mets rotations are dropping like flies. The Indians are in the playoffs for sure and the Mets are looking like they will make it. Could make for a quick exit for both teams or a disproving of the theory that you need pitching to win in the playoffs.
  17. I haven't noticed that stand. How is it different? They have a touch screen for you to place your order and pay. Then the staff people bring your food. Saves them from having to pay a couple of workers to take your order. Basically it what every fast food joint will look like in 5 years if not sooner. A lot of the stands are staffed by volunteers working to raise money for their organization so I doubt the savings from concession stand payroll would be slightly more than zero. Also, aren't those workers paid by the company that runs the stands not the Brewers?
  18. I didn't watch any of the game but Garza put up another decent line this time against a pretty darn good hitting team. When you look at the crap pitching free agent class and (not to sound insensitive, but) with Jose Fernandez off the trade market Garza has got to be an attractive option to a few teams.
  19. That's how the outfield was when the park first opened and it was great. Then they slowly added seating over the years and removed anywhere to stand and watch the game which really sucks. I doubt they'll remove paid seating for non-paying anything but it would be nice. Didn't the Brewers purchase all the land behind the stadium lot? I thought when it happened they said they planned to make it into restaurants and shops.
  20. Attendance numbers are only important for attracting and charging sponsors so it's not surprise they're grossly inflated.
  21. I've always felt that having a 3rd party decide what needs to be reviewed is the best way to do it. That, however, opens up a lot of possibilities for controversy when plays aren't challenged and accusations of league favoritism to certain teams.
  22. That seems silly. What if a play is really close and they're looking at a bunch of different camera angles and splicing different shots together to get a good view? That takes more than a minute but just because you want it to go faster, they should just stop, even if it means getting the call wrong? How many reviews have even been finished in a minute this year? Even the obvious ones take at least a minute to overturn. I totally agree with him. If it's not obvious after 60 seconds, then the call stands. The point of replay was to prevent another Jim Joyce moment not analyze every millimeter of the game at 1,000 frames per second. If the goal was to get every single call correct then challenges should be unlimited since there is no limit to the number of incorrect calls that can be made by umpires in a game and every single element of the game should be reviewable, including balls and strikes.
  23. The team or manager records are totally irrelevant to any decisions that will be made. It's the general lack of developing players that's going to get guys fired. The only coach you really ever hear about is Erickson as both Melvin and Stearns praised his work so it'll be interesting to see if he stays in Appleton or if they move him up somewhere else.
  24. Davies pitched well at the end of last year and only had a disastrous first month in the majors this season so I'm not really surprised he's doing well. The only thing his detractors keep bringing up in his size which is basically irrelevant. If you throw strikes you can and generally will pitch well. And that's what Zach does.
