  1. [sarcasm]Lucroy vetoed because he doesn't think the return was enough. A real team player that guy.[/sarcasm]
  2. Is last year's Gomez/Fiers deal the only trade this board has ever liked? Sent from my laptop using my keyboard
  3. Just curious, is it the agent's job to deal with housing and other such relocating issues for players in season? I can't imagine a single, A ball player having the time or knowledge to deal with everything that comes with a cross country move.
  4. The Rangers have supposedly been wanting Norris. Why not trade for him and then say, "Your move Texas." But seriously, he's a buy low candidate to flip next year. The Pads have a couple of good, young catchers that he's blocking and are practically giving away veterans right now.
  5. I've heard that it's more stressful but I don't know if I've ever seen any science behind it. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't the splitter the fashionable pitch in the 70's and 80's and then someone said it leads to injuries and coaches didn't want guys throwing it anymore? I never really thrown it as a pitch but I've thrown it and you definitely can "feel" it more than other pitches. Like I said though, I've never actually seen any studies about it.
  6. First off, I'm glad Lucroy is traded. Holding on to him past this deadline would be reckless and irresponsible. As for the trade itself, I really wanted Frazier. A bunch of low level players doesn't excite me at all, no matter how highly regarded they are. That stats look good and the scouting reports you guys have posted look good but there's still so much time for them to flame out that it just feels like a big let down. Between this trade and the Lind trade, Stearns feel to me like your friend who all summer long says the Browns are making the playoffs just so that when it finally does happen he can say I told you so. I'm looking forward to the next 24 hours or so because Smith, Jeffress, and Thornburg NEED to be traded and nased on the reliver trades so far, what we get for those guys will blow this Lucroy trade out of the water.
  7. Except for Lucroy saying no to Cleveland. That would just make sense for this franchise.
  8. The Braves are moving into a new stadium next year. The Braves are going to be going on a spending spree similar to what the Dbacks and Padres have done. Don't be surprised if this isn't the last deal the Braves do before the end of this season. I don't disagree with that but Kemp really doesn't put butts in the seats anymore nor is he that good anymore.
  9. Maybe I'm misremembering but I don't remember base stupidity being an issue 4 or 5 years ago. Am I misremembering or did Ron Roenicke ruin this organization's fundamentals?
  10. Way more. Stearns sold way way way low on Davis. Simply put Nottingham isn't going to be a good catcher if he stays there at all and his bat isn't MLB 1st base caliber. Actually if you look at Segura in over 400 pa, he sold low on him too. Ditto KRod. Back to CF, we really don't have one on the roster until we get down to Phillips. Everyone else is at best a stop gap. Yah I think they probably sold low on Davis. Only because Nottingham is a dumpster fire in the field. Segura I just don't think he would have ever turned it around here and still think he is playing over his head. We got Isan Diaz too so I will let it slide. K-Rod was a bit harder to predict. Easy to look back now that we know the barren wasteland for relievers looks like. However we never got good value for K-Rod in all the trades of him so why would this time be any different? We dropped the ball in my opinion though. To say the least Stearns has been pretty questionable trading MLB assets so far. I disagree Stearns sold low on everyone but KRod. He's been a top of the line reliever for quite a few seasons. It just seemed no one ever wanted to give anything of value up for him. I've constantly said it had nothing to do with his legal issues but maybe it did because he's been as steady as they come for a bullpen arm.
  11. So why exactly is the trade deadline pushed to August 1 this year? I guess Manfred said because July 31 was a Sunday but why should that make a difference? If they don't want the deadline to fall during games than make it midnight or something like that.
  12. While I love watching him pitch, cash in on him now. He'd be the #2 in the Red Sox rotation and the ace for the Dodgers if Kershaw is out for the year.
  13. And an OBP around .300 with average, at it's best, defense.
  14. What? At no point during that game did it ever feel like the Pirates were in it.
  15. Fastball 93-94 with a pretty good split when he throws it for a strike. I would assume he has another pitch too. Hitters look like they just have no clue what's coming. Not sure if it's because of his lack of track record, or deception in his delivery, or what.
  16. I'd love to see the Marlins win another World Series just to drive insane all the people who don't like how they operate. I'm not advocating how they're run but they've had more post season success than all the other "model franchises" like the Pirates, Athletics, Rays, and Cubs.
  17. Some nuggets on Lord Zaun... He had 8 games in his Brewers career with more than 1 hit. He caught the pitching staff to a 5.42 ERA (4.58 Team ERA). His CS percentage was 24 percent in a league that was 29 percent. He was better than league average in just 4 of his 16 seasons. The Brewers won 10 of the 27 games when he was their primary catcher. He was better than a lot of the stiffs mentioned in this thread, but for a team that had made history just two years earlier to turn to him as a starter was an insult to fans. And how about Ken Macha leaving him in all night on April 28, 2010...The game goes 14 innings, 4 hours 39 minutes. And Zaun catches every one of 249 pitches, as a 39 year old. And they lose. The guy walked up to Rush, hit better than any other Brewer catcher in recent history, and his injury led to the early promotion of Lucroy. What's not to like?
  18. Pretty strong disagree here. Braun has a 2.2 WAR this year. Puig has a 0.3. Sure contract comes into play, but not enough to make teams want a bad player over a good one. Puig's first two years were pretty good but he's been hurt and very average since. Frankly I think all the attitude and what not has been way overblown. Put him in the middle of nowhere where the Packer's backup long snapper having a hangnail is bigger news than anything the Brewers do and these "problems" disappear. Maybe playing out of the spotlight gives him a kick in the pants to play better so he can go somewhere where he will be in the spotlight. The Dodgers have traditionally had a weak bullpen. Give them Braun, a reliever (Thornburg, Smith, or Jeffress) and some cash and see if you can get Puig and a prospect back. I'd take a chance that he comes close to returning to the guy who OPS'd almost .900 and put up almost 10 WAR for two years.
  19. Considering the Giants would never be a suitor for Lucroy, I would say no. Maybe for Smith, Jeffress or Thornburg. That makes more sense. May have even been Braun.
  20. Isn't every team in that league in Florida? This is just stupid. I like Dragonflies though.
  21. Isn't this the guy some wanted for Lucroy? Seems like Lucroy>>>>Nunez.
  22. I thought it was previously reported that Doug doesn't text.
  23. All of these rumors are worthless. "So and so team is interested..." "This team isn't really interested anymore..." "Now there's a mystery team!!!" I'm pretty sure 90% of this stuff is made up by reporters to fill space/get clicks. Call me when the trade actually happens.
