  1. Eat it St. Louis. Eat it hard. Too bad the Pirates couldn't capitalize and make it a 2 game lead.
  2. Harper won't come out looking bad from that because every single person who knows a thing about baseball knows that Papelbon is a douche. That's my point. That's not news. News is that that Harper kid mouthed off to a veteran in the dugout.
  3. Who else would they play there? Rogers and Clark are really the only first basemen the organization has that have any real shot at playing in MLB next year. Maybe they move an OF there but I doubt that happens.
  4. If he said his goal was to win a World Series that, to me, would mean he wants to go all in and continue to trade for and sign expensive veterans.
  5. What's sad is that Harper is going to come out looking bad from that. Yes, he should have run it out and probably should have just ignored Papelbon but Harper is probably going to be blamed for it. And then Papelbon smiles like a smug jackass after the whole thing.
  6. If Reed is any indication, it's not like Counsell would've played Arcia. Melvin or someone said he wasn't brought up because there wouldn't be enough playing time for him. Makes sense with Segura, Perez, Sardinas on the roster.
  7. I was going to make a joke post about how he would actually be an improvement over some of the hitters the Brewers currently have. Then I looked at the numbers. Since 2012, Greinke has a .657 OPS. This season, of guys with over 100 PA Schaefer, Hector Gomez, Peterson, Maldonado, and Segura all have a lower OPS than that. Hernan Perez and Gennett are only slightly higher.
  8. They are aging in the fact that by the time the Brewers are competitive again they will on the downside of their careers. Also, I didn't make it clear my point about Fiers was that he's already on that downside age-wise. The odds of him maintaining his current level of success for the next few years is rather unlikely because of his age, not his talent.
  9. Avila should never catch again. The fact that Detroit has put him back there since his concussions is concerning. I'm sure Alex was all for it but it's not smart. The Rays moved Jaso to the outfield because of his concussions.
  10. How Gomez and Parra performed after they were traded is totally irrelevant when evaluating the trades. The Brewers "won" these trades because they turned expensive, aging assets that weren't going to be a part of the next contending Brewer team into younger, cheaper parts that will - hopefully. The only way the 2015 deadline can be looked at as a loss is if Fiers continues to post borderline ace numbers for the next 5 years and none of the players from the Astros develop into solid major league players.
  11. I'm hoping the reason Logan is playing so much is because this is his last chance. If he fails, like he's doing so far, he'll be non-tendered or outrighted after the season.
  12. Does Gammons knows that Milwaukee has a team? Of course. It's the Red Sox farm team.
  13. More Schaefer and no Reed. What is the point of bringing him up if you're not even going to play him, especially if Logan is the one getting the PT.
  14. Except for Schaefer. Why the hell is this guy playing over Peterson or Reed? I'd rather throw Rogers out there than him too.
  15. I think 3 times a year is just right. Once before the season, halfway through, and then right after the season. I don't see a reason to make any adjustments in between. It's not like Peter Gammons is coming here to research his column about which top prospects the Brewers are going to trade to the Red Sox for nothing.
  16. I wish these last few games they'd just give each starter 3 innings a game. Or heck, they have enough relievers now you could just have 9 guys throw 1 innings a piece.
  17. When I started coaching JV 6 years ago I would always have a kid on the bench do a backup paper copy of the scorebook as I kept the digital one. In my 6 years I have only had 1 kid who knew how to keep a scorebook. We eventually trained a couple but only 1 had any clue what to do without help.
  18. Go Brewers. The Cardinals don't deserve to win baseball games. I don't care who they are playing.
  19. I haven't seen the play but I don't think you can call obstruction on that because the fielder has the right of way when fielding the ball. Also, I'm loving Davies. In a day and age when 90% of pitching is just throwing it hard and hoping the batter misses, he pitches. Everything is down and he changes speeds. Yes, I know that generally speaking the harder you throw the better you will do but there is a place in the game for guys like him. Especially when all hitters see now is gas, it's tough to wait back on the low 90's fastball and even tougher when that changeup is 10 MPH slower.
  20. Just finished "Big Data Baseball" about the Pirates. It's a great read and not as "staty" as Moneyball. What boggles my mind is that the Pirates' data guys showed the players and coaches where batters hit ground balls and said that the fielders should play there. Such a simple and logical concept, yet, this was met with hostility.
  21. For what it's worth, I thought I saw more than the usual amount of Gennett/Scooter gear on fans yesterday. *shrug* Didn't notice any more or less Scooter gear. My wife wore her Gennett jersey shirt but she wears that to every game. I honestly couldn't believe how empty it was for a giveway day. I understand bad team/NFL season, but still. There was free stuff to be had!!!
  22. Is Stearns the right guy who's going to build a competitive franchise. I'm not going to pretend to know that answer. If he the right type of guy? Yes. Mark didn't go out and get some baseball lifer, retread GM, or even promote from within. That tells me he's finally realized that the way they've been doing things isn't going to cut it anymore and it's time for a new direction.
  23. Astros looking like they will tank the season too. Gomez must have been the reason for the Brewers epic collapses that last few years.
  24. To play devil's advocate... The minor leagues is basically student teaching. MiLB is not the goal, it's training to get the job you want. More like an apprenticeship. And, yes, I realize that apprenticeships are usually paid.
